A new marine genus of Ostracoda from the tidal flats of Aden City is erected and one new species is described. The systematic position of the present taxon is discussed.

Karagandoceratids are a rare offshoot of the Prionoceratinae, resembling that subfamily in general conch form and sutural ontogeny, but differing by possession of an acute ventral margin and an increasingly trifid ventral lobe. The systematic position of the Karagandoceratidae has been controversial [see Bartzsch and Weyer (1988) for an exhaustive review]. The nominate genus, Karagandoceras Librovitch, 1940 (type species, K. galeatum), possesses a weakly divided ventral lobe which has led authors to refer it to both the Praeglyphioceratina (Ruzhencev, 1960, 1962; Bogoslovsky, 1971; Ruzhencev and Bogoslovskaya, 1978; Bogoslovskaya et al., 1999; Kusina, 2000) and the Goniatitina (Weyer, 1965, 1972; Kullmann, 1981). Discovery of an ancestral karagandoceratid genus, gen. nov. I aff. Karagandoceras Bartzsch and Weyer, 1988, in the early Tournaisian Siphonodella sandbergi conodont Zone in Germany provided clarification on the proximate origin of Karagandoceras and provided a plausible link to the early Tournaisian prionoceratin genus Nicimitoceras Korn, 1993 (type species, Imitoceras subacre Vöhringer, 1960). Bartzsch and Weyer (1988) proposed a karagandoceratid phylogeny beginning with gen. nov. I aff. Karagandoceras in the early Tournaisian, progressing through Karagandoceras in the middle Tournaisian, and culminating with a third, descendent genus, gen. nov. II aff. Karagandoceras (typical species, Karagandoceras bradfordi Manger, 1971), early in the late Tournaisian. Bartzsch and Weyer (1988) elected to leave both the initial and final members of this lineage, gen. nov. I and gen. nov. II aff. Karagandoceras, in open nomenclature pending discovery of more completely preserved material. Discovery of superbly preserved representatives of a new species of gen. nov. II aff. Karagandoceras from the Borden Formation in northeastern Kentucky provides additional sutural and morphological details that support Bartzsch and Weyer's phylogenetic interpretation and makes formal description of this terminal karagandoceratid taxon (herein designated Masonoceras new genus) possible.

Species from the genus Oricymba are studied from freshwater ecosystems of Vietnam and Laos. Three species were found in Vietnam, namely O. japonica, O. subovalis and O. perjaponica comb. nov. The two last species are new taxa for the diatom flora of Vietnam. A new species is described from Laos, O. voronkinae sp. nov., and its morphology is documented with light and scanning electron microscopy. Oricymba voronkinae sp. nov. represents the first documented occurrence of the genus Oricymba in Laos. Our findings provide new information about the morphology and species distribution of the genus Oricymba in Indochina. We discuss the systematic position of Oricymba within the Cymbellales.

The infraorder Thalassinidea Latreille, 1831 [sensu stricto] includes three families: Thalassinidae Latreille, 1831; Upogebiidae Borradaile, 1903; and Laomediidae De Haan, 1849 (cf. Sakai & Sawada, 2006). However, recent examination of material from Kuwait in the Pershian Gulf, showed the occurence of a new species,Kuwaitupogebia nithyanandangen. et sp. nov., and this has made it possible to establish a new family, Kuwaitupogebiidae fam. nov., based on that new genus. The genusUpogebiaLeach, 1814 is known to include nine species from the Red Sea area, yet herein two new species,Upogebiaspongicolasp. nov. from the Reef at Hurghada, Red Sea, Egypt, andUpogebia jizanensissp. nov. from off Jizan, Saudi Arabia, Red Sea, can be added, based on material lodged in the collections of the museum in Frankfurt a. M.

A new genus of Lygistorrhinidae, Asiorrhina gen. n., and a new species, Asiorrhina parasiatica sp. n., are described. Asiorrhina asiatica (Senior-White) comb. n. is redescribed and selected as the type species for the new genus. The systematic position of the new genus is discussed. All recent taxa of Lygistorrhinidae form a monophyletic group with the fossil genus Palaeognoriste Meunier as the sister group.

This paper has been written in response to a request for determinations of certain parasites of wood-boring beetles in Queensland, Australia. The description of a new species of Monolexis entailed rather more research than was expected and has led to the expression of a few opinions of an exploratory nature on the status of the subfamily Hecabolinae. Altogether one new species in the Doryctinae and six (including one new genus) in the Hecabolinae are described.The types of all new species are in the British Museum.

This paper presents a review of Cretaceous to Eocene genera and species of the Cantharus group of the buccinoidean neogastropod subfamily Pisaniinae, the description of two new genera and one new species, and a nonphylogenetic discussion of character evolution in this group. The new genus Ickarus is introduced for Tritonidea ickei Martin, 1914, from the Nanggulan beds (middle Eocene) of Java, Indonesia. Editharus (type species: Fusus polygonus Lamarck, 1803, middle Eocene of the Paris Basin, France) is a new genus with seven to nine species ranging from the early to late Eocene of Europe. Editharus is unusual in having a labral tooth formed at the angular junction between the adapical and abapical sectors of the outer lip. Editharus angulilabris from the Marinesian (early late Eocene) is a new species from the Paris Basin closely related to E. polygonus. The incidence and expression of several characters has sharply increased in the Cantharus group from the Paleogene to the Neogene. These characters include the presence of lirae (spiral ridges) on the inner side of the outer lip, the presence of a parietal tooth at the adapical end of the inner lip, and determinate growth (as inferred from a unique adult varix). These trends are also exhibited by other Cenozoic gastropod clades.

A new genus and species belonging to the primary freshwater crab family Potamidae, and a new species of the genus Artopotamon Dai & Chen, 1985, are described on the basis of remarkable G1and female gonopore characters. Semicirculara lincangensis gen. & sp. nov. and Artopotamon latopeos sp. nov. were collected from southwestern and northwestern Yunnan Province, China, respectively. All type specimens are deposited in Nanjing Normal University in Nanjing and the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IZCAS) in Beijing. Mitochondrial molecular data, from the partial sequence of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene, are also shown to support the distinct systematic position of the new taxa.

Taxonomic characters of the adult, pupa and larva of the coconut flat moth, Agonoxena argaula Meyr., are compared with those of the three other known species comprising the family Agonoxenidae, and keys to the species are provided. One new species, A. phoenicia, is described from northern Queensland. The systematic position of the family and the generic status of the four species are discussed. Although differences of possible taxonomic importance have been noted, the species are considered sufficiently homogeneous to allow assignment to the single genus Agonoxena Meyr. Haemolytis miniana Meyr. is transferred to Agonoxena, and Haemolytis Meyr. is suppressed as a junior synonym.

Five new species of ichneumonids of the subfamily Orthocentrinae s. l. were discovered in Finnish collections. A new genus is proposed for one new species from Southern Finland, Fennomacrus koponeni gen. et sp. n. Its relationships and systematic position are briefly discussed. Four other new species, Plectiscidea aquilonia sp. n., P. fuscifemur sp. n., P. helleni sp. n. and Eusterinx (Holomeristus) fennoscandica sp. n., from Fennoscandia are also described. The hitherto unknown female of Helictes fabularis Rossem is described as well.

A new genus of Chinese Empoascini (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae), Radicafurcus Qin & Zhang, gen. n. with one new species, R. breviprocessus Qin & Zhang, sp. n. from Sichuan Province (S.W. China) is described and illustrated. Baguoidea Mahmood 1967 is redescribed and a new species, B. yunnanensis Qin & Zhang, sp. n. is described from Yunnan Province (S.W. China). Two genera (Faiga Dworakowska 1980 and Sikkimasca Dworakowska 1994) are reported for the first time from China, and the type species of these genera are re-illustrated.
