Summary Bursaphelenchus pterocarpi n. sp. isolated from Pterocarpus sp. logs imported from Ghana to Ningbo, China, is described and illustrated. The new species is characterised by a female body length of 630-946 μm, lateral field with four lines, a short 12.6-13.9 μm long stylet with small basal swellings, excretory pore located posterior to nerve ring, outstretched reproductive system with amoeboid sperm inside the spermatheca, a well-developed vulval flap, tail conical and straight with a 1.9-4.8 μm long mucron at the tip, and lacking males in both the wild type and fungal-cultured populations. In a concatenated tree, reconstructed on the basis of the partial 18S, full length ITS and partial 28S rDNA D2-D3 sequences, the new species occupied a basal placement to the clade of xylophilus-group and africanus-group species.

Summary Aphelenchoides smolae n. sp. isolated in Ningbo Port, China, from medium soil and tissues of Lilium orientalis bulbs imported from The Netherlands, is described. It is characterised by the female body length of 826 (672-1002) μm and male body length of 785 (683-844) μm, lateral field with four lines (three bands), stylet 13.0-14.9 μm long with small basal swellings, excretory pore situated slightly posterior to nerve ring, vulval flap absent, post-vulval uterine sac well developed and extending for ca 35.7-62.4% of vulva to anus distance, conical tail with terminus bearing a single mucron with many tiny nodular protuberances under SEM, males common, with spicules 25.7-29.8 μm long (median curved line), the condylus and rostrum rounded, well developed, the dorsal limb with a hook-like tip, and tail bearing three pairs (2 + 2 + 2) of caudal papillae and a sharply pointed mucron. The new species belongs to the Group 2 category of Aphelenchoides species sensu Shahina. Phylogenetic analysis based on 18S, 28S D2-D3 of rDNA and COI mtDNA further characterised the new species.

Bursaphelenchusmoensin. sp., isolated in Tianjin Port, China, fromPinuspackaging wood imported from the USA, is described. It is characterised by a lateral field with three lines (two bands), stylet 13.0-14.9μm long, excretory pore situated at same level as, or slightly posterior to, the nerve ring, spicules 13.0-15.5μm long, mitten-shaped, condylus high and broad with squared, rounded or pointed end, rostrum triangular or conical with bluntly rounded tip, and cucullus absent, bursa small, starting posterior to P4, narrow oblong to irregular in shape and with an oval central projection, female vulval flap absent, and tail conical with a finely rounded or mucronate terminus. The new species belongs to thehofmanni-group and is most similar toB. paraparvispicularis,B. parvispicularisandB. wuae. It is distinguished from closely related species by morphology, ITS-RFLP patterns and partial 18S, ITS and 28S D2-D3 rDNA gene sequencing results.

Aoruroides chubudaigaku n. sp. (Nematoda: Oxyuridomorpha: Thelastomatidae) is described from the wood-burrowing cockroach Panesthia angustipennis spadica (Shiraki, 1906) (Blattodea: Blaberidae: Panesthiinae) from Aichi prefecture, Japan. Females of A. chubudaigaku n. sp. are similar to A. costaricensis Carreno & Tuhela, 2011 by the position of the nerve ring at level of the first third of the isthmus, the body length and the comparative measurements of the oesophagus and tail. They differ by the position of the excretory pore and the vulva. The males of A. chubudaigaku n. sp. are characterized by the absence of ornamentations in the cervical cuticle and the nerve ring located at the posterior third of the corpus. In addition, the males of the new species can be differentiated by the length of the body and the comparative lengths of the oesophagus and the tail. The phylogeny of A. chubudaigaku n. sp. is inferred by the D2-D3 domains of the LSU rDNA and the validity of the genus Aoruroides Travassos & Kloss, 1958 is discussed on the basis of both molecular and morphological data. This constitutes the first species of the genus Aoruroides described from the Japanese archipelago.

Summary Bursaphelenchus parayongensis n. sp. was isolated from packaging wood of a consignment from China exported to Germany. The new species is characterised by the lateral field with three lines, 9-13 μm long stylet with small basal swellings, and the excretory pore located near the posterior part of metacorpus. The male spicules are mitten-shaped, the lamina smoothly tapers towards the distal tip. The condylus is broadly rounded, with a small dorsally bent hook, rostrum triangular with sharply pointed tip, and without cucullus. One precloacal papilla, one adcloacal pair and two postcloacal pairs of male papillae present, with the posteriormost pair forming ‘gland papillae’. Bursal flap long, spade-like with posterior margin truncate or irregular. Females have a small vulval flap of 2-3 μm long, and a post-vulval uterine sac extending for 55-77% of the vulva to anus distance. Tail cylindrical, mostly (about 70%) with a robust mucron, very short to less than 3 μm, but occasionally tail terminus bluntly rounded, without mucron. It is similar to species in subgroup 3 of the eggersi group including B. carpini, B. clavicauda, B. cryphali and B. yongensis, but morphologically different. Detailed phylogenetic analysis based on partial 18S, ITS and D2-D3 region of 28S sequences has confirmed the status of this nematode as a new species.

Abstract Steinernema ashiuense sp. n. was collected by a Galleria baiting method from grassland along the riverbank of the Yura river, near the Ashiu Research Forest Station of Kyoto University. The new species is characterised by an infective juvenile body length of 768 (720-800) μm, lateral field with five equally developed ridges (i.e., six lines or incisures), head smooth lacking horn-like structures, excretory pore located at level of middle of pharynx, hyaline portion short (ca one-third of tail length). Males have 50-65 μm long, broad, slightly yellowish spicules; spicule length / spicule width = 4 (3.5-4.4), and two subventral and one subdorsal pair of genital papillae in the postcloacal region. The analysis of ITS-rDNA sequence placed S. ashiuense sp. n. in the 'feltiae-kraussei-oregonense' group in the clade containing S. robustispiculum and S. monticolum. It can be distinguished from these species by morphological characters of the infective juveniles and males.

Aphelenchoides stellatusn. sp. is described and figured. The new species was isolated from packaging wood from Japan imported to Ningbo harbour, China. The new species has a body length of 485-533 μm (males) and 547-699 μm (females). The cuticle is weakly annulated and there are four lines in the lateral field. The stylet is 9-11 μm long and has small basal swellings. The excretory pore is located posterior to the nerve ring. Spicules smoothly curved, rose-thorn shaped. Apex and rostrum round, only slightly offset, dorsal limb 19-21 μm long. Male tail bearing six (2 + 2 + 2) caudal papillae. The female spermatheca is axial and oblong with round sperm present in multiple rows. Both male and female tail pegs have 3-4 processes, appearing star-like under SEM. The new species belongs to the Group 3 category ofAphelenchoidesspecies. Phylogenetic analyses based on full length ITS and 28S D2/D3 region of rDNA confirmed its morphological status as a new species.

Summary Bursaphelenchus geraerti n. sp., isolated in Tianjin, P.R. China, from packaging wood made of Pinus sp. imported from the United Arab Emirates, is described. It is characterised by the lateral field with three lines, a stylet 13-14 μm long with small basal swellings, excretory pore located posterior to nerve ring, spicule mitten-shaped, ventrally arcuate with lamina smoothly tapering towards distal tip, with a distinct bend near 60% of total length, condylus elongated with rounded tip, rostrum conical with finely rounded tip, and cucullus weakly developed or absent. The bursal flap is wide and spade-like with the posterior margin truncate or rounded and starts posterior to P6 gland papillae. A vulval flap is absent and the tail is conical, strongly ventrally curved with the terminus pointed and sometimes appearing as a mucron. The new species is characterised by morphological and molecular analysis and is close to B. decraemerae, B. gerberae and B. sakishimanus.

Summary Aphelenchoides medicagus n. sp. isolated in Ningbo Port, P.R. China, from dried leaves and shoots of Medicago sativa imported from the USA, is described. It is characterised by a lateral field with four lines (three bands), stylet 9.0-12.0 μm long, excretory pore situated at same level as, or slightly posterior, to the nerve ring, vagina sclerotised, female vulval flap absent, post-uterine sac short, spicules 9.2-14.2 μm long (median curved line), rosethorn-shaped, apex and rostrum rounded, poorly developed, female and male tail conical with terminus bearing star-like processes. The new species belongs to the Group 3 category of Aphelenchoides species sensu Shahina. Phylogenetic analyses based on 18S, ITS and 28S D2-D3 of rDNA and mtCOI sequences confirmed its status as a new species and closely related to A. besseyi and A. fujianensis.

Devibursaphelenchus kheirii sp. n. is described and illustrated based on morphological, morphometric and molecular data. The new species is characterised by females with 370-472 μm body length, lip region separated from the body by a shallow constriction, three lines in lateral field, stylet short, 13.5-15.0 μm long, lacking basal knobs or swellings, excretory pore posterior to metacorpus, vulval flap absent, post-uterine sac short, without sperm, rectum and anus obscure, posterior end of the body elongate-conoid with finely rounded terminus. Males of the new species are characterised by their tail ventrally curved after fixation, having two pairs of caudal papillae, spicules 9-11 μm long with an elongated condylus, with rounded tip, pointed rostrum, lacking cucullus and having small conical terminal bursa. The new species comes close to D. hunanensis, D. lini and D. wangi. Beside morphological comparisons, the molecular phylogenetic analyses based on 778 bp of partial sequences of 28S rDNA D2-D3 were performed using two Bayesian inference (BI) and maximum likelihood (ML) methods and revealed that D. kheirii sp. n. formed a clade with the remaining species of the genus and one species of Ektaphelenchoides. This is the first report on occurrence of the genus Devibursaphelenchus in Iran. Devibursaphelenchus eproctatus syn. n. is proposed as a junior synonym of D. hunanensis.

Bursaphelenchus koreanus sp. n., isolated in Ningbo, P.R. China, from packaging wood made from Pinus sp. imported from South Korea, is described. It is characterised by a slim body (a = 28-35), lateral field with four lines, excretory pore located at level of, or slightly posterior to, median bulb, vulva at 75% of total body length, presence of a distinct vulval flap in lateral view, post-uterine branch extending for ca two-thirds of vulva-anus distance, female tail conical and ventrally bent with slightly pointed, irregular or roughened terminus (c′ = 4.1), spicules large and arcuate (27-34 μm) with pointed rostrum, cucullus visible but sometimes reduced to a small blunt extension. The new species belongs to the xylophilus group and is most similar to B. luxuriosae and B. paraluxuriosae. It is distinguished from other Bursaphelenchus species by morphology, ITS-RFLP patterns and sequencing results.
