Purpose: To describe the development and content validation of measures to assess the psychoeducational needs of children, adolescents/young adults (AYAs), and their parents at the end of successful treatment for cancer. Method: Professional experts, which included pediatric oncology nurses and advanced practice registered nurses, conducted a systematic review of the literature to determine specific end of treatment (EOT) needs of children and AYAs with cancer and their parents and evaluate available tools to measure these needs. From this review, two EOT questionnaires were initially developed. Oncology Family Advisory Board (FAB) members served as experiential experts in refining and validating these questionnaires. FAB members participated in a content validation process, rating questionnaires online, and subsequently participating in a focus group to establish content validity ( n = 6). Results: Three EOT questionnaires were ultimately developed. The Child/AYA questionnaire was divided into two separate measures for developmental and literacy considerations. The Parent/Caregiver and the AYA questionnaires each contain 38 items with a content validity index score of 100%. The Child questionnaire contains 37 items with a content validity index score of 100%. Conclusion: Content validity was established for three EOT questionnaires, each of which has the potential to elicit information regarding needs and potential gaps in services perceived by childhood cancer survivors and their parents. Further psychometric testing is needed to determine stability (test–retest reliability) and construct validity of the questionnaires.

OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to evaluate content validity, convergent validity, internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the Thai version of the Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS-Thai). METHODS: The content validity of the SANS-Thai was assessed using four experts. The average-content validity index and item level content validity index were analyzed. The SANS-Thai and the Thai versions of the Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination (ACE) were administered to 40 people with schizophrenia to examine convergent validity and internal consistency. Twenty participants took the second SANS-Thai assessment within four weeks to evaluate test-retest reliability. RESULTS: The results demonstrated that the SANS-Thai has excellent content validity with the average-content validity index of 0.94. The majority of the item level content validity index range from 0.75 to 1. The global and total SANS-Thai score moderately correlated with the ACE with the correlation coefficient of -0.48 (p = 0.002) and -0.49 (p=0.001), respectively. Internal consistency by the Cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.95. Test-retest reliabilities by intraclass correlation were 0.91 (p<0.001) for global SANS-Thai and 0.9 (p<0.001) for total SANS-Thai. The Bland-Altman plot demonstrated that only 5% of the participants fell outside the limits of agreement for both global SANS and total SANS scores. CONCLUSION: The SANS-Thai appears to be a valid and reliable measure of negative symptoms in schizophrenia and could be useful for patient care and research studies.

Objective To develop and validate the content of an instrument for assessing the motivation for weight loss in adolescents with overweight and obesity. Methods The development and validation of the instrument were conducted in five stages, for which two systematic reviews were conducted. The first one, for the identification of questionnaires assessing the motivation for weight loss, included six studies and contributed to the selection of the domains for the instrument. The second one, conducted to identify the motivations for weight loss in adolescents with overweight and/or obesity, included six studies and contributed to the selection of 17 motivations included in the initial version of the instrument. The motivations most commonly identified were: having better health, improving my appearance, improving my self-esteem and avoiding bullying. The content validity was confirmed by a committee of 12 experts from the areas of nutrition, endocrinology, psychology, and physical education. Based on these evaluations, the content validity index was calculated. Only the items with a content validity index >0.80 for practical relevance were held in the instrument. Results Five of the 17 motivations included in the initial version of the instrument were excluded because they had content validity index <0.80 for practical relevance. Of the 12 items held in the instrument, five were revised by experts in order to standardize wording and make the language more appropriate for adolescents. Experts categorized the items into the health, personal satisfaction, appearance and social domains. Conclusions This is the first instrument assessing the motivation for weight loss in adolescents with overweight and obesity in Brazil. The content validity evaluation by the panel of experts provided more practical relevance, as well as contributed to a better presentation of the items. Further psychometric testing is needed to determine reliability and construct validity of the instrument.
