Introduction: Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), the gold standard of cardiopulmonary evaluation, is used to determine VO2 levels at different aerobic exercise training intensities; however, it may not be feasible to conduct CPET in all clinical settings. Aims: To compare the heart rate reserve (HRR) and percent of 220-age methods for prescribing cycle ergometry exercise intensity using heart rate (HR) against the HRs obtained during a CPET in adults undergoing treatment for acute leukemia (AL). Methods: In this exploratory study, part of a larger randomized controlled trial, 14 adults with AL completed CPET on a cycle ergometer with indirect calorimetry within 96 hr of admission to a cancer hospital to determine VO2peak and HR corresponding to low (40% VO2peak), moderate (60% VO2peak), and high (75% VO2peak) exercise intensities. Analyses of variance were used to compare estimated HR for each intensity level using the HRR and percent of 220-age methods with HR determined via VO2peak. Results: HR corresponding to low-intensity exercise differed significantly across all three methods ( p ≤ .05). No significant differences were observed between HR estimated via the percent of 220-age method and determined via VO2peak at moderate (100 ± 8 and 113 ± 24 bpm, p = .122) or high intensities (125 ± 10 and 123 ± 25 bpm, p = .994). Conclusion: In adults with AL, HR-based methods for defining aerobic exercise intensities should be used with caution. At low intensity, neither should be used, while at moderate and high intensities, the percent of 220-age equation might serve as an adequate substitute for CPET.

Abstract: Aerobic exercise is a kind of exercise systematically by increasing the load gradually and continuously using energy derived from the combustion using oxygen, and takes oxygen without causing fatigue. Examples of aerobic exercise is the way, jogging, running, cycling, and swimming. Physical fitness is the body’s ability to function effectively when working or doing other things, and still have enough energy to handle or emergencies that may arise. Before planning to do aerobic exercise, namely: the frequency of exercise three to five times every week, exercise intensity 60 - 80% of maximum heart rate, and duration of exercise 20 – 60 minutes.mConclusion: With regular aerobic exercise, blood flow to be smooth and speed up the disposal of metabolic waste substances, so that recovery takes place rapidly, and the person with not experience fatigue after performing the task, and still be able to perform other activities. Benefits of aerobic exercise training is increased physical fitness. Keywords: aerobic exercise, physical fitness.

During the COVID-19 epidemic period, it is essential to strengthen physical exercise and improve the health of the whole people. In this paper, based on genetic algorithm, a fuzzy control system is proposed to dynamically adjust the exercise ability of the bodybuilders under the comprehensive consideration of parameters. Through experiments and data processing, the system obtains bioelectric information related to heart rate, heart rate variability and muscle fatigue of the fitness people in the three states of not fatigue, moderate fatigue and extreme fatigue, establishes fuzzy membership function, and thus establishes personalized fitness information feedback control strategy to maintain moderate fitness intensity. By narrowing the gap between the predicted RPE value based on objective information and the measured RPE, the method provides a unified subjective and objective exercise intensity for the bodybuilders, effectively expands the time of aerobic exercise, and enhances the effect of aerobic exercise. In addition, in order to expand the scope of application of the exercise intensity control model, the service-oriented transformation is carried out to enable it to provide fitness content combinations of interest to fitness practitioners and instructors.

Introduction: The Anti-Arrhythmic Effects of Exercise Trial reported that aerobic exercise training for 8 weeks after an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) significantly improved the primary outcome of cardiopulmonary function without ICD shocks or adverse events. This is a report on the longer term outcomes at 24 weeks of exercise maintenance that was continued after aerobic training. Hypothesis: When 8 weeks of aerobic exercise training is followed by aerobic exercise maintenance (50% reduction in the amount of walking), cardiopulmonary function [peak VO2, EX time, VO2 at AT, O2 pulse, METS, Maximum HR] will be maintained without an increase in ICD shocks or hospitalizations. Methods: 160 subjects (80/group) with a prior ICD implant (40% primary and 60% secondary prevention), mean age 55 +12 years, 78% male, 84% Caucasian, 100% beta-blocked, and mean EF%=40%, entered a RCT comparing aerobic exercise to usual care (UC). At baseline, 8 and 24 weeks, participants completed cardiopulmonary exercise testing using a modified Balke treadmill protocol. Aerobic training= 8 weeks of home walking 1 hour/day on 5 days/week at 60-80% of maximum HR using the Karvonen formula, was followed by aerobic maintenance (EX)= 16 weeks of home walking for 150 min/week. ICD shocks and hospitalizations were verified with medical records. Analysis of variance was used to determine group x time effects on study outcomes. Results: Aerobic maintenance significantly increased peak VO2 ml/kg/min, p<0.000 (EX 26.9+7.7, UC 23.4+6.0), EX minutes, p<0.000 (EX 16:27+ 6:36; UC 13:24+4:33), VO2 at AT ml/kg/min, p=0.001 (EX 23.0+6.8; UC 19.8+5.8), O2 pulse p=0.01 (EX 18.7+5.5; UC 16.8+4.9), and METS, p<0.001 (EX 7.6+2.2; UC 6.7+1.8). Maximum HR was unchanged. The number of ICD shocks related to exercise was =1: 3 in UC and 1 in exercise received an ICD shock or ATP during follow-up. There were 11 hospitalizations in each group, none were related to exercise. Conclusions: Aerobic exercise maintenance for 16 weeks that followed aerobic exercise training for 8 weeks, maintained gains in cardiopulmonary function despite reducing the amount of walking by half (300 min vs. 150 min). Aerobic exercise in patients with an ICD is safe without increasing the number of ICD shocks or hospitalizations.
