e19016 Background: Approximately 9,050 Americans gets diagnosed annually with Hodgkin's Lymphoma HL and approximately 1,150 dies each year from HL(1).Nodular Lymphocyte-predominant LP (NLPHL) represents 5% of HL (2). Mafraq Hospital is a tertiary hospital in Abu Dhabi, UAE, We suspected that we are seeing more than expected cases of NLPHL.Therefore, we carried a retrospective study to review all cases of HL seen at our oncology unit for the period from 01/01/2016 till 30/06/ 2018. Methods: We developed Excel data collection tool. After Ethics approval, Electronic Medical Records of all cases seen with the diagnosis of HL between 01/2016 and 06/2018 at Mafraq Hospital were reviewed. Results: Total of 47 case were collected. 8 cases (17%) were found to have NLPHL, The rest of cohort were 39 cases, 22 (57%) of them had nodular sclerosis HL, 4 cases (10%) mixed cellularity HL, 2 (5%) lymphocyte rich HL, no cases of lymphocyte depleted HL. 9 (23%) of cases were classical HL with no type as diagnosis was made from core biopsies. 2 cases (5%) unlisted type. The stage for the 42 case were as follows Stage I: 1 case = 2.3%, Stage II: 24 case = 57.1%Stage III: 11 case = 26.1%Stage IV: 6 cases = 14.2%. Conclusions: We saw 23 (49%) females and 24 (51%) males. Our hypothesis that NLPHL is more frequently seen in UAE seems to be correct as 17% of all HL cases seen were from this subtype. Mean age at diagnosis of all HL cases is 33 years. In the NLPHL there were 2 (25%) females and 6 (75%) males. Mean age at diagnosis for NLPHL is 31.8 years. Most HL patients received ABVD as first line regimen. This is documented in 38 out of 47 case. Mean overall survival registered at the closure of the study is 45 months. It is important that this overall survival is premature as no patient has relapsed or died.

Introduction: To review the gestational age at diagnosis, method of diagnosis, pregnancy outcome and maternal complications of prenatally diagnosed lethal foetal anomalies. Methods: Retrospective review of 25 women who had aborted or delivered foetuses with lethal anomalies in a tertiary hospital in 2011 based on patient medical records. Results: There were a total of 10,088 deliveries, in which 25 (0.24%) women were found to have conceived foetuses with lethal anomalies. All of them were diagnosed by prenatal ultrasound and only 7 (28.0%) had both prenatal ultrasound and genetic study done. The women’s mean age was 29.9 years old. The mean gestational age at diagnosis of lethal foetal anomalies was 25.5 weeks (SD=12.5) and mean gestational age at termination of pregnancy (TOP) or delivery was 28.5 weeks (SD=12.5). Seven (28%) women had early counseling and TOP at the gestation of < 22 weeks. Beyond 22 weeks of gestation, eight (32%) women had TOP and ten (40%) women had spontaneous delivery. Twenty (80%) women delivered or aborted vaginally, three (12%) women with assisted breech delivery and two (8%) women with abdominal delivery which were performed due to transverse foetal lie in labour and a failed induction, leading to emergency hysterotomy complicated by hysterectomy due to intraoperative finding of ruptured uterus. Overall, the associated post-partum adverse events included post-partum haemorrhage (12%), retained placenta (12%), blood transfusion (8%), uterine rupture (4%) and endometritis (4%). Mean duration of hospital stay was 6.6 days (SD 3.7 days). Conclusion: Late diagnosis of lethal foetal anomalies leads to various maternal morbidities, in this case series , which could have been prevented if they were diagnosed and terminated at early trimester. A new direction is needed in our local practice.

14597 Background: Mafraq Hospital is the largest tertiary hospital in United Arab Emirates (UAE). The exact charecterstics of colon cancer in this country are not yet documented. Methods: This is a retrospective study of colo-rectal cancer. Files of all patients with the diagnosis of colo-rectal cancer between 1/99 and 12/05 at the department of Oncology at Mafraq Hospital were reviewed. Intent to treat analysis was used. Total of 176 patients were seen. The youngest was age 18 and the oldest was 79 Results: Mean age of patients at initial presentation was 48.5. Gender was as follows: males 121 patients (68.7%) and females 55 patients (31.3%). Mean male age at initial presentation was 49.5, and mean female age was 46.4. UAE Citizens represented 34 patients (19.3%) of cohort and non-citizens 137 patients (80.7%). Cancer stages were as follows: stage I: 7 patients (4.7%), stage II: 41 patients (27.5%), stage III: 48 patients (32.2%), stage IV: 53 patients (35.6%). 27 patient elected to do staging work-up and further care elsewhere. Conclusions: 1- Colon cancer screening is needed in order to diagnose cancer at earlier stages. 2- As our patients are younger than patients in the West. Colon cancer screening should be done at an earlier age. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

e16546 Background: The role of baseline serum CA125 as a prognostic indicator in ovarian cancer is well documented. However, little is known about the impact of change in CA125 on survival after 3 months of therapy. We conducted survival analysis to answer the question “what is the prognostic impact of change in serum CA125 after 3 months of therapy in ovarian cancer?” Methods: A case series of 170 ovarian cancer patients treated at Cancer Treatment Centers of America between Jan 01 and May 06. Based on CA125 levels at baseline and 3 months, patients were classified into 4 groups: 1) Normal (0–35U/ml) at baseline and three months; 2) High (>35U/ml) at baseline, normal at three months; 3) Normal at baseline, high at 3 months; 4) High at baseline and three months. Kaplan Meier method was used to calculate survival across the 4 categories, which was defined as the time interval between date of patient visit at 3 months from first visit and date of death from any cause or date of last contact. Results: Of 170 patients, 36 were newly diagnosed while 134 had received prior treatment. 25 had stage I disease at diagnosis, 15 stage II, 106 stage III and 14 stage IV. The median age at presentation was 54.2 years (range 23.1 - 82.5 years). At baseline, 31 patients had normal (0–35U/ml) serum CA125 levels while 138 had high (>35U/ml) levels. At 3 months, 59 had normal while 111 had high levels. In this cohort, patients with a reduced CA125 at 3 months (stratum 2) had a significantly better survival than those with increased CA125 at 3 months (stratum 3). Patients with normal values of CA125 at both baseline and 3 months (stratum 1) had the best overall survival. Conclusions: These data show that reduction in CA125 after 3 months of therapy is associated with better overall survival in ovarian cancer. Patients without a significant decline in CA125 after 3 months of therapy have a particularly poor prognosis. [Table: see text] No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract Retinoblastoma is the most common tumor of the eye in Senegalese children. Diagnosis occurs often at a late stage, when enucleation is unavoidable. In this report, we describe all recorded cases occurring in Senegal over a 10-year period (2005–14). For the 106 cases clinically and radiological identified, the mean age at diagnosis was 30 months (2 months / 10 years). Leucocoria (74.6%) and exophthalmos (42.3%) were common signs of the disease. For the 67 cases identified through patient-file examination, extra-ocular forms were present in 30% of cases at the time of diagnosis and retinal detachment in 19% of cases. Chemotherapy and surgery were the only available therapeutic methods. Overall survival at 5 years was 70%. Retinoblastoma is a serious illness that threatens the lives and sight of affected children. There are about 10 cases per year in Senegal. Management can be enhanced by improving existing technical platforms and training medical staff.

The United Arab Emirates is a smallish Arabic/Islamic country about the size of Maine located at the tip of the Arabian Peninsula. Though currently oil dependent, the country is moving rapidly from a petrocarbon to a people-based economy. As that economy modernizes and diversifies, the country’s underlying social ecology is being buffeted. The most significant of the winds of change that are blowing include a compulsory, free K-12 education system; an economy shifting from extractive to knowledge-based resources; and movement from the almost mythic Bedouin-inspired lifestyle to that of a sedentary highly urbanized society. Led by resource-rich Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the federal government has invested heavily in tourism, aviation, re-export commerce, free trade zones, and telecommunications. The Emirate of Dubai, in particular, also has invested billions of dirhams in high technology. The great dream is that educated and trained Emiratis will replace the thousands of foreign professionals now running the newly emerging technology and knowledge-driven economy.

Nationals represent barely 20% of the population in the United Arab Emirates, but form the economically and socially privileged group of UAE citizens. The Rulers of the seven emirates were able to retain the historical loyalty of the “Emiratis” by advancing the economic development of the individual states, while Abu Dhabi-financed federal development helped to create a viable national state. Democratization is not of the same urgency as in some neighboring Gulf countries.

AbstractThe global lack of student motivation towards learning science and gender imbalance in STEM careers provided the impetus for this study, which had two key aims: (1) to examine the influence of female students’ perceptions of the psychosocial learning environment on their motivation towards and self-regulation in science learning,; and (2) to investigate the influence of their reported motivation on their self-regulation of effort. Data were collected from 338 female students in grades 6 to 9 science classes across 16 government schools in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Structural equation modelling was used to explore the hypothesised relationships, which indicated that there were statistically significant relationships between learning environment perceptions, motivation and self-regulation. The results provide exigent information to both teachers, policy-makers and researchers with regard to the influences of the psychosocial learning environment on female students’ motivation towards science, as well as the influence of motivation towards science on their self-regulatory behaviour within science classroom settings.
