Hydrogen sulfide is a notorious agent known to cause serious injuries in the occupational field. We are going to discussa case of a 20 years old male working in a effluent treatment plant in Savar, Bangladesh who accidentally entered thefume room and was exposed to the toxic gas. He lost consciousness and was brought to our care from a local hospitalafter endotracheal intubation condition. He was found in state of unconsciousness grade III on admission to our ICU.His brain CT scan revealed diffuse cerebral edema. Chest X-ray revealed finding suggestive of diffuse pneumonitis.Cardiology evaluation suggested Toxic cardiomyopathy as his high sensitive Troponin I was very high on admission (2037ng/L). Supportive care was given in the form of mechanical ventilation, antibiotics, anticonvulsant andanti-ischemic medications. Patient regained consciousness on day 10 after admission and gradually improvedclinically. By the end of the month of stay in hospital he was significantly improved. Water is an abundantly used input in industrial laundry processes. The reuse of water in effluent treatment plant reduces costs and brings environmental benefits, that is, an eco-efficiency factor. This study aims to analyze the practices of water reuse in industrial laundries on its effluent treatment plants. In this regard it was studied two medium-sized companies in the field of industrial laundries located in southern Brazil. The research method used was multiple case study. The results show the decrease in the polluting load with the water recycling process with consequent cost reduction. The application of technologies and substances used without harming the environment with the use of wet washing and dry cleaning has been observed. From the results, a vision of best practices is proposed found in water reuse benefits associated with the management of cleaner production in terms of eco-efficiency.

The effectiveness of individual units of an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) agrees on the entire performance of the plant and the ultimately echoing effluent standard. In this study, an ETP of a composite textile industry in Bangladesh was investigated using this method. After completion of the stipulated study, findings came into force illustrated that water samples had been collected from the dyeing unit and accordingly had been used for the ETP and also been determined for the key parameters. The results were used to identify problems with the treatment units and broadly suggested for modifications. Simple but fully-bodied methodology was developed for assessing the performance of various treatment units and the ETP as a whole that could be implemented by ETP managers on a regular basis for improving the performance so that the effluent meets national standard as well as conforms to the requirements of international standard which is a compliance of the international buyers. To comply with the BB Guidelines commercial banks have taken initiatives on financing to the textile dyeing units in question with the implementation of ETP.  The ETP’s performance on Mozart Knitting Ltd. shown that it has been performing with the underprivileged management, especially chemical dosing were affecting the ETP’s performance and that simple measures could address the problems. A number of equipment i.e middle pathways rolling, water transferring pipes should repair without more ado. JEL Classification Code: L67, K32

In Kanpur, CETP units have been installed to treat the enormous effluents discharge from various leather processing units. Researcher collects the data in terms of its location area, year of establishment and number of units attached for treatment effluents and their effluent treatment capacity per day. Result of the study indicate that Majority of leather units were connected to CETP of Bajidpurin Jajmau area of Kanpur. Some remaining large scale leather units were and involved in combined units have their own Chromium effluent treatment plant (CETP).

The requirements imposed on the Finnish forest products industry by the water authorities have focused on the reduction of BOD and suspended solids in the wastewaters. The industry has tried to comply with these requirements, first through internal measures such as process changes and closed systems. When these have not been sufficient, external treatment has been resorted to. The Wilh. Schauman Company in Jakobstad has chosen activated sludge with extended aeration from among the available methods for treating effluent. The plant has operated since the beginning of 1986 with extremely good results. In addition to the reduction of BOD and suspended solids, there has been a marked decrease of chlorinated phenols. Chlorinated substances with higher molecular weight are also removed during the process.

Several process units at a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) can produce a significant level of sound and thus induce sound nuisance for nearby residents. The risk for sound nuisance should be considered by making a prognosis of sound impact in an early project phase (planning, design). A prognosis requires information with respect to the sound characteristics of the different process units. This paper reports the development of empirical models for the sound power of relevant process units in the water line at Aquafin WWTPs. The used methodology for model derivation and validation allowed us to minimize the required number of measurements. Besides the methodology, the paper describes in detail the derivation and validation of the empirical model for the splashing water of screw pumps. Also the use of all the derived empirical models to determine the sound impact of a wastewater treatment plant at close distance is illustrated with a case-study.

Dissolved air flotation (DAF) incorporating filtration (DAFF) is used at the Bolivar wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to polish lagoon effluent for reuse. Elevated algal populations are frequently experienced and can lead to increased coagulant requirements and process control issues. Streaming current detectors (SCDs) and a charge demand analyser (CDA) were used to monitor the full-scale plant. This was followed by an optimisation study using a pilot plant with a CDA. It was found that the normal operational charge demand range for DAF at Bolivar was between −46 and −40 μeq L−1. Decreasing the pH of coagulation reduced coagulant consumption and facilitated more sensitive CDA responses to changes in alum dose.
