Abstract Background: A new lanreotide autogel/depot (LAN) syringe was developed based on feedback from a human factors study to improve user experience. Methods: PRESTO was a multinational, simulated-use study in nurses with ≥2 years’ experience injecting LAN or octreotide long-acting release (OCT LAR) in patients with acromegaly and/or neuroendocrine tumors, which aimed to assess injector preference between the LAN new syringe and the current OCT LAR syringe. Participating nurses were invited to test both the LAN new syringe (120 mg) and the current OCT LAR syringe (20 mg or 30 mg), using injection pads. The sponsor was not involved in these sessions. In an anonymous web-based questionnaire, nurses reported overall preference (‘strong’ or ‘slight’; primary endpoint), and rated and ranked the importance of nine attributes for each syringe (1 [not at all] to 5 [very much]). Results: In total, 90 nurses attended injection sessions and completed valid questionnaires. Overall, 97.8% of nurses expressed a preference (85.6% ‘strong’, 12.2% ‘slight’) for LAN new syringe (p<0.0001 vs current OCT LAR). Attribute performance ratings were consistently higher for LAN new syringe vs current OCT LAR, with the greatest differences in ‘fast administration’ and ‘confidence the syringe will not be clogged’ (mean [standard deviation]: 2.6 [1.2] and 2.3 [1.5], respectively; p<0.0001). The attribute ranked most important was ‘confidence the syringe will not be clogged’ (24.4%) and least important was ‘convenience of syringe format, including packaging, from preparation to injection’ (34.4%). Conclusions: The PRESTO study showed that nurses preferred the user experience of the LAN new syringe over the current OCT LAR syringe across all attributes tested.

Five observations on human factors and ergonomics are compared to user experience (UX) research. This paper highlights similarities and differences to the original reflections made by Salas (2008) and goes deeper into where user experience research as a field has room to grow, particularly, by maintaining a closer connection to its roots in psychology and human factors. This is important as applied user experience researchers work to make an impact and grow their careers through credibility and rigor of work. User experience researchers of varying tenure and those considering entering the field may benefit from reflecting on where they find such patterns in their own roles and what solutions should be proposed (whether internalized, institutional, or systemic).

Serially propagated cells derived from the steer thyroid gland preserve several specialized characteristics, some demonstrable for as long as 8 months (over 15 passes). For about 5 passes (3 months), follicular-like arrays of cells develop. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) or thyrotropin (1 and 10 mu./ml) induces the formation of supernumerary nucleoli, and promotes at the ultrastructural level the prompt (within 10 min) appearance of microvilli, pseudopodia, and intracytoplasmic droplets. These cells have a mean plating efficiency (PE) of 16.5 ± 4.5% (standard deviation) and with 3x104 cells as the standard inoculum, a mean doubling time (Td) of 43.7 ± 1.2 h. The linear variation of Td with the number of cells seeded probably signifies strong cell-cell interactions. TSH (1-5o mu./ml) influences both PE and Td, with 1 mu./ml producing the maximum stimulation. TSH (0.001-100 mu./ml) also induces the discharge of incorporated radio-iodide from the cultured thyroid cells, achieving a peak by 2-4 h, titres of 0.1-1 mu./ml being most potent. Long-acting thyroid stimulator (LATS) (0.2 u./ml) likewise effects release of 131I into growth medium (1 experiment), but over a more protracted period. After labelling with [3H]leucine, radioautographs demonstrate that the synthesis of proteins is stimulated by exposure to TSH (1 mu./ml). Precipitation with trichloroacetic acid indicates that these cells persist in synthesizing 131I-tagged iodoproteins, an activity optimally stimulated by 1 mu./ml TSH and marked by 3 h. Hence, such thyroidal cell lines afford a useful model for studying differentiation and hormonal effects.

BACKGROUND WHO described Vaccine hesitancy in 2019 as one of the top 10 threats to global health in high, and low, and middle-income countries. Various communication approaches have been used to engage the public about vaccines and immunization such as mass media and e-health strategies. With the expansion in the use of communication technologies in health in recent years, websites have increasingly been used to support vaccine acceptance and demand and thus increase vaccine uptake. We recently established a web-based intervention called the Tat3im initiative website in Sudan. It aims to increase uptake of vaccines in Sudan by increasing knowledge and addressing issues related to vaccine hesitancy and vaccine safety in the Arabic language OBJECTIVE This article describes the processes that we used to develop and improve this website including the creation of its content. METHODS These processes were informed by using and combining three sources including, Garrett’s user experience framework as a basis for the development, the WHO Vaccine Safety Net's (VSN) criteria for good information practices (i.e. credibility, content (quality and quantity), design and accessibility criteria), and previous relevant research that assessed the local context in Sudan. RESULTS We found that using such evidence as well as combining the VSN's criteria and previous research findings in the five planes of Garrett's framework enabled us to cover many essential elements of user experience and to address issues related to the website’s strategy and content. CONCLUSIONS As the website may be limited due to the high rates of illiteracy as well as relatively low internet use in Sudan, we suggest using social marketing to promote the use of the website as well as monitoring and evaluating the website and users’ experience using different approaches such as visitor traffic and qualitative measures.

User Experience Research (UXR) is a growing field and an attractive option for HF students post-graduation. However, previous research has shown that HF students do not feel prepared for careers in UXR. The goal of this work was to gather information about student expectations about what they imagine that they might actually spend time doing if they were to become a UXR professional, and then to compare those expectations to reality, i.e., how UXR professionals actually spend their time. Survey results revealed some differences between student estimates and professional reports of skill frequency, and an overestimate the frequency with which students would utilize UXR skills in general. As a result, students lack discrimination to identify which skills are actually most important, i.e. delivering research communications and interviewing. Implications for students and recommendations for future training programs are discussed.

PURPOSE To compare the efficacy and safety of 177Lu-DOTATATE plus radiosensitizing capecitabine and octreotide long-acting release (LAR) as first-line systemic therapy in advanced well-differentiated gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs). MATERIALS AND METHODS Data of consecutive patients of advanced inoperable or metastatic grade 1 or 2 GEP-NETs treated with first-line 177Lu-DOTATATE plus radiosensitizing capecitabine or octreotide LAR from September 2012 to December 2019 were collected and analyzed for response, toxicity, and survival outcomes. RESULTS Seventy-six patients (median age: 53 years; range 14-81 years) with treatment-naïve advanced grade 1 or 2 GEP-NETs were included. Thirty-six patients received a median cumulative dose of 27.3 GBq of 177Lu-DOTATATE intravenously at 8-12 weeks' intervals along with 1,250 mg/m2 oral capecitabine on days 0-14 of each cycle of 177Lu-DOTATATE, whereas 40 patients were administered 30 mg octreotide LAR intramuscularly every 4 weeks. Using response evaluation criteria in solid tumor 1.1, the objective response rate was 38% in the 177Lu-DOTATATE arm compared with 15% in the octreotide LAR arm ( P = .025), whereas the disease control rates were 88% and 67% in 177Lu-DOTATATE and octreotide LAR arms, respectively ( P = .035). The median durations of progression-free survival in the 177Lu-DOTATATE and octreotide LAR arms were 54 months and 16 months, respectively ( P = .017), whereas the median overall survival was not reached and not significantly different across both the arms. Of the treatment-related adverse events, no major difference was observed in the occurrence of grade 3 or 4 toxicities between the two treatment arms. CONCLUSION First-line systemic 177Lu-DOTATATE plus radiosensitizing capecitabine achieved better radiologic response and longer progression-free survival compared with octreotide LAR in patients with advanced grade 1 or 2 GEP-NETs. Future randomized controlled trials are, however, required to determine the best treatment sequence for the treatment-naïve patients with advanced GEP-NETs.
