This paper examines unhealthy eating in a middle aged Scottish population. Data from a 1989 survey of 5 00 Scottish men and women aged 45 to 59 years are used to explore inter-relations among five items of unhealthy eating, smoking and alcohol consumption. The results show that unhealthy eating behaviours are highly correlated, indicating strong links among certain nutrition habits. The findings also reveal that such patterns of unhealthy eating vary considerably between males and females. Finally, unhealthy eating behaviours were also found to be significantly associated with smoking and alcohol consumption. Implications of these findings for future research in epidemiology and health promotion are considered.

Abstract Background Premature death, chronic diseases, productivity loss and other social and economic concerns can be influenced by healthy lifestyle workplace promotion programs, including healthy nutrition habits. In Slovenia a project called >>STAR-VITAL-healthy ageing at workplace << has been going on since September 2017. Methods The survey results are based on an analysis of 805 respondents from 20 different small and middle sized enterprises in Slovenia. The survey was carried out via both a paper questionnaire and an online survey during the period from June 2019 to February 2020. The screening questionnaire was completed before interventions. We estimated the average score for the eight questions concerning nutritional habits. Results Nutritional habits are the following: 62% respondents eat three or more meals a day, 64% respondents eat vegetables each day, 59,8% respondents eat fruits each day, 31,9% respondents eat fish or see fruits at least once a week, 45,7% respondents eat whole wheats at least once a week, 54,1% respondents eat red meat not more than twice a week, 62,1% respondents eat fried food not more than three times a month and 79,1% respondents drink sweet drinks less than three times a week. The results on question >>What is the most common form of meal you eat while at work? << are the following: purchase meal at restaurant 45,3%, bring from home 32,7%, delivery/carry out 6,2%, do not eat 5,2%, other 4,7%, employer cafeteria 3,9% and vending machine 1,2%. Conclusions The results of our survey show that a significant percentage of the workers in Slovenia still has unhealthy nutritional habits. Assessment of nutritional habits before workplace promotion program interventions allow us to compare which combinations of interventions are the most effective. The results will indicate the strength and weakness of each intervention and how it could be improved. Key messages The population is growing old and chronic diseases increases, which is part of the bad nutritional habits. Healthy lifestile promotion is needed to improve quality of life. The workplace health promoting programs have been shown to be an efficient way of improving workerś health. Implementing promotional program of nutritional habits are proper for Slvenian enterprises.

Abstract Background Increases in the cost of food often leads to changes in the quantity and type of foods that are purchased. World Health Organization estimates that today’s global food prices rose to the highest level. Numerous research results show that the effect of the conversion of national currencies to the euro on the growth of consumer prices in euro area countries was generally mild and one-off. The aim - to explore the eating habits in 2019 of the Lithuanian population and compare it with results of an eating habits research which was made before the joining euro zone in 2013. Methods The sample under the survey included 1007 of the Lithuania’s population. The interviewing under a questionnaire was carried out in March 2019 using the questionnaire developed for this purpose. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS program package. The results were compared with nutritional habits of the survey done in 2013. Results The results showed that only one-fifth of the Lithuanian adult population thinks about food choices for health benefits - 22 % (in 2013 - 21 %). Food choice is affected by the taste - 37 % (in 2013 - 28%), to a lesser extent - the food price, which represents 24 % (in 2013 - 37%). 67% of the Lithuanian population (in 2013 - 43%) do not always eat at the same time. 59% (in 2013 - 59%) of the adult population eats three times a day. The majority - 98% (in 2013 - 92.9%) of the respondents had a snack between main meals. It is recommended to eat fresh vegetables every day, but this recommendation is shared by 55% (in 2013 - 40%). The milk and milk products are used each day by 51% (37% in 2013) of the population. The majority - 42% (in 2013 - 82%) of adult Lithuanian population most frequently used vegetable oil. Conclusions More people started to choose food by taste, and a decreased number of those who choose by price. There is increased number of people who eat fresh vegetables every day and decreased number of people who use vegetable oil. Key messages There are differents in nutrition habits among Lithuania population before and after joining Eurozone. The study showed the impact of joining the Eurozone on the diet of the population.
