In order to improve the usability of glue, a traditional adhesive material, and the gelation process of seaweed extract carrageenan, a liquid adhesive for wood preservation was prepared by mixing the two materials. The prepared wood adhesive was mixed with a 15 wt% aqueous solution of glue, λ-carrageenan, an antibacterial agent, an antifoaming agent, and the maximum adhesive strength of 1.80 Mpa was confirmed. As a result of comparison, the adhesive strength was superior to that of 5 different types of traditional natural adhesive ingredients (aqueous solution) and 1 type of polyvinyl acetate-based adhesive.

Tannins and lignins, which are natural phenolic compounds, are gaining substantial interest in biobased wood adhesive research. In this study, several different biobased tannin-lignin-hexamine adhesive mixtures were prepared and compared in a lap-joint shear strength test. In the first part, the suitability of different types of kraft and organosolv lignins as part of the mixture used in the production of biobased adhesives (in combination with pine tannins) were observed. It was found that biobased adhesive mixtures containing kraft lignins performed significantly better than those that contained organosolv lignins. In the second part, unmodified kraft lignins were mixed with pine tannin in different proportions, ranging from 0% to 100%. The pressing parameters were set to 150 °C for 15 min after performing oscillatory tests with a rheometer. Pure tannin adhesives performed the best, but no significant differences or a trend line were observed among adhesives containing different proportions of tannins and lignins.

A series of waterborne polyurethane (WBPU)/modified lignin amine (MLA) adhesives was prepared using modified lignin amine (MLA) as a chain extender by a prepolymer mixing process. A successful Mannich reaction was achieved during the synthesis of MLA by reacting lignin with bis(3-aminopropyl)amine. Higher tensile strength, Young’s modulus and thermal stability were recorded for WBPU/MLA adhesives with higher MLA contents. The WBPU/MLA adhesive materials were used to coat PVC substrates. The adhesive strength increased with increasing MLA content. More importantly, the MLA also enhanced the WBPU/MLA coating in terms of adhesive strength at moderately high temperatures as well as under natural weather exposed conditions. The adhesive strength was essentially unaffected with 6.48 mole% MLA in the WBPU/MLA coating after exposure to natural weather conditions for 180 days.

AbstractThe 1,1’-dimethylvanadocene dichloride ((C5H4CH3)2VCl2) reacts in aqueous solution with various carboxylic acids giving two different types of complexes. The 1,1’-dimethylvanadocene complexes of monocarboxylic acids (C5H4CH3)2V(OOCR)2 (R=H,CCl3, CF3, C6H5) contain two monodentate carboxylic ligands, whereas oxalic and malonic acids act as chelate compounds of the formula (C5H4CH3)2V(OOC-A-COO) (A=−, CH2). The structure of the (C5H4CH3)2 V(OOCCF3)2 complex was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The isotropic and anisotropic EPR spectra of all the complexes prepared were recorded. The obtained EPR parameter values were found to be in agreement with proposed structures.

Abstract2, 4-ionene supported permanganate is easily prepared by treatment of 2, 4-ionene with an aqueous solution of potassium permanganate. This reagent could be used as a stable, mild and efficient oxidizing agent to produce carbonyl compounds from hydroxyl compounds or arenes, and disulfides from thiols in either heterogonous or solvent free conditions. In addition, aromatization of different types of 2-arylimidazolines and 2-alkylimidazolines to corresponding imidazoles was achieved in good yields in acetonitrile at room temperature.
