In this study we explored the degree to which father-child conflict mediated the relationship between father parenting and child adjustment in a sample of 338 Chinese children. It was found that fathers' parenting was associated with child adjustment, and father-child conflict. Father-child conflict was found to mediate the relationship between fathers' parenting and child adjustment.

Much scholarship on “play” activities has focused on enhancing children’s learning processes and developing interest towards learning second language (Nair, Yusof, Arumugam, 2014). Many of these studies, however, adopt the survey to conduct their study. This study explored how “play with local kids” activities effect the development of English speaking and listening of two Chinese children in the Philippines, employing an ethnographically based approach to observe the two participants playing with local kids, which lasted about 4 months. The findings of the study revealed that “play” activities can not only help young children have a better understanding of their English conversations, and make them have more confidence to speak English, but also inspire them to speak English in such environment. In view of the results, it is obvious that “play with local kids” is a very good way for young children to acquire a second language in a multilingual setting. It is strongly recommended that language researchers and teachers should pay more attention and do more research on the relationship between “play” and second language acquisition.

The characteristics of interaction and dialogue implicit in the Web 2.0 have given rise to a new scenario in the relationship between science and society. The aim of this paper is the development of an evaluation tool scientifically validated by the Delphi method that permits the study of Internet usage and its effectiveness for encouraging public engagement in the scientific process. Thirty four indicators have been identified, structured into 6 interrelated criteria conceived for compiling data that help to explain the role of the Internet in favouring public engagement in science.

<b><i>Background:</i></b> Copeptin and nesfatin-1 have recently been identified as novel peptides that play a role in the pathogenesis of obesity-related insulin resistance in adults. However, the relationship between them has not yet been elucidated, and their circulating levels in children with obesity have not been adequately studied. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate whether their levels are altered in Chinese children with obesity, as well as to determine the correlation of these 2 peptides with each other, with insulin resistance, and with other biochemical parameters. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> A total of 156 children were enrolled in this study, including 101 children with obesity and 55 lean controls. Anthropometric parameters and clinical data of all subjects were collected, and circulating tumor necrosis factor-α, adiponectin, leptin, copeptin, and nesfatin-1 levels were measured using ELISA. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Serum copeptin and nesfatin-1 levels were significantly elevated in children with obesity and children with insulin resistance compared to control subjects. In addition, nesfatin-1 and copeptin levels were found to be significantly positively correlated with one another by Pearson’s correlation and partial correlation. In multiple regression analysis using nesfatin-1 or copeptin as the dependent parameter, a significant correlation was observed between nesfatin-1 and copeptin, and associations between each of them with homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were detected. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> These novel findings shed light on the possible interplay role of these 2 molecules in obesity-related insulin resistance.

Conscientiousness as a personality trait has been recognized as a predictor of students’ academic achievements in numerous empirical studies. The aim of the study was to determine the role of life orientations, moratorium and transitive orientation, in the relationship between conscientiousness and academic achievement. The study was conducted using Social Participation Questionnaire and the NEO-FFI Personality Inventory among 111 full-time students aged 20-25. Conscientiousness turned out to be a predictor of both academic achievement and life orientation, but these orientations did not mediate the relationship between conscientiousness and academic achievement.
