Abstract Background Although many psychological factors have been associated with health-related quality of life (HRQoL), the mediator role of resilience between psychological predictors (i.e., coping styles and perceived social support) and HRQoL has rarely been explored in breast cancer survivors (BCSs). Methods A total of 231 BCSs participated in this cross-sectional survey. Pearson correlation was performed to analyze the relationships among coping styles (confrontation, avoidance, and resignation), perceived social support, resilience, and HRQoL. A multivariate linear regression analysis was applied to identify the psychological predictors of HRQoL and resilience, respectively. A structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to examine the mediating role of resilience between coping styles, perceived social support, and HRQoL. Results Perceived social support and resilience were positively associated with confrontation. Resilience was positively associated with perceived social support. HRQoL had positive correlations with confrontation/avoidance, perceived social support, and resilience. Resilience and resignation/avoidance were significant independent predictors of HRQoL, while resignation/confrontation and perceived social support were significant independent predictors of resilience. Confrontation/resignation, perceived social support, and resilience had significant direct effects on HRQoL; confrontation/resignation and perceived social support had significant direct effects on resilience; resilience had significant mediator roles between confrontation/resignation, perceived social support, and HRQoL. Conclusions Resilience was a significant mediator between coping styles, perceived social support, and HRQoL. A resilience-oriented intervention is recommended to alleviate the detrimental influences of low resilience on HRQoL, providing a new strategy for improving the health status of BCSs.

Information technology (IT) and open innovation has been one of hot topic in existing research respectively. However, there are lack empirical research on inner mechanism of internal IT capability affecting open innovation performance. According to dynamic capability theory, this paper puts internal IT capability, internal knowledge integration, firm social capital, and open innovation performance into a theoretical model. Through 232 surveys, the results indicate that internal knowledge integration plays a mediator role in the effect of internal IT capability on open innovation performance. Meanwhile, the relationship between internal IT capability and internal knowledge integration can be positively moderated by firm social capital. This study extends the research on open innovation and IT business value, and provides theoretical direction for practice.

Riboflavin under UVA radiation generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can induce various changes in biological systems. Under controlled conditions, these processes can be used in some treatments for ocular or dermal diseases. For instance, corneal cross-linking (CXL) treatment of keratoconus involves UVA irradiation combined with riboflavin aiming to induce the formation of new collagen fibrils in cornea. To reduce the damaging effect of ROS formed in the presence of riboflavin and UVA, the CXL treatment is performed with the addition of polysaccharides (dextran). Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that can be found in the aqueous layer of the tear film. In many cases, keratoconus patients also present dry eye syndrome that can be reduced by the application of topical solutions containing hyaluronic acid. This study presents physico-chemical evidence on the effect of riboflavin on collagen fibril formation revealed by the following methods: differential scanning microcalorimetry, rheology, and STEM images. The collagen used was extracted from calf skin that contains type I collagen similar to that found in the eye. Spin trapping experiments on collagen/hyaluronic acid/riboflavin solutions evidenced the formation of ROS species by electron paramagnetic resonance measurements.

Burnout was recently declared by WHO as an “occupational phenomenon” in the International Classification of Diseases 11th revision (ICD-11), recognizing burnout as a serious health issue. Earlier studies have shown that feelings of guilt appear to be involved in the burnout process. However, the exact nature of the relationships among burnout, guilt and psychosomatic disorders remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediator role of feelings of guilt in the relationship between burnout and psychosomatic disorders, and perform a cross-cultural validation of the multi-dimensional model by Gil-Monte in two samples of teachers (Portuguese vs. Spanish). The study sample was composed of 1,266 teachers, 1,062 from Spain, and 204 from Portugal. Burnout was measured by the Spanish Burnout Inventory. Hypotheses were tested together in a path model. The results obtained provide empirical evidence for the mediator role of guilt in the relationship between the Burnout syndrome and psychosomatic disorders in the sample of teachers from Spain and Portugal, and they contribute to the empirical validation of the model by Gil-Monte. The results indicate that guilt should be incorporated as a symptom of burnout in order to identify individuals affected by burnout and profiles or types of burnout to differentiate it from other pathologies like depression.
