This paper examines the behavior of the interest rate risk management measures for bonds with embedded options and studies factors it depends on. The contingent option exercise implies that both the pricing and the risk management of bonds requires modelling future interest rates. We use the Ho and Lee (HL) and Black, Derman, and Toy (BDT) consistent interest rate models. In addition, specific interest rate measures that consider the contingent cash-flow structure of these coupon-bearing bonds must be computed. In our empirical analysis, we obtained evidence that effective duration and effective convexity depend primarily on the level of the forward interest rate and volatility. In addition, the higher the interest rate change and the lower the volatility, the greater the differences in pricing of these bonds when using the HL or BDT models.

The primary objective of this paper is to study the post Dodd-Frank network structure of the interest rate swap market and propose a set of effective complexity measures to understand how the swap users respond to market risks. We use a unique swap dataset extracted from the swap data repositories (SDRs) to examine the network structure properties and market participants’ risk management behaviors. We find (a) the interest rate swap market follows a scale-free network where the power-law exponent is less than 2, which indicates that few of its important entities have a significant number of contracts within their subsidiaries (a.k.a. interaffiliated swap contracts); (b) swap rate volatility Granger-causes swap users to increase their risk sharing intensity at entity level, but market participants do not change their risk management strategies in general; (c) there is a significant contemporaneous correlation between the swap rate volatility and the underlying interest rate futures volatility. However, interest rate swap volatility does not cause the underlying interest rate futures volatility and vice versa. These findings provide the market regulators and swap users a better understanding of interest rate swap market participants’ risk management behaviors, and it also provides a method to monitor the swap market risk sharing dynamics.

Interest rate marketization means that the interest rate level of financial institutions operating and financing in the money market is determined by market supply and demand. It includes interest rate determination, interest rate transmission, interest rate structure and marketization of interest rate management. At present, there are still many deficiencies and defects in the traditional interest rate management system. The reform of interest rate marketization is the focus of China’s financial system reform. Therefore, we should not only be brave in innovation, but also carefully study and analyze. In the analysis process, this paper focuses on the impact of interest rate marketization on commercial banks, and puts forward some countermeasures.

The deposit insurance pricing is the core issue of deposit insurance system, it determines the success or failure of the deposit insurance system in a way. In the current deposit insurance pricing methods, we treat the interest rates as a constant. With the interest rate marketization in China, the deposit insurance pricing methods have also changed accordingly. In this paper, we will give a functional representation of the impact of RMB interest rate marketization on interest rate by fitting the coefficients of the cubic function. Then we will use the data of 2013 to prove it. For the points that do not conform to this rule, we also have some explanations related to the major economic events at that time.

Countries with a dual banking system always question the independence of Islamic Bank on conventional bank. Although theoretically there are basic differences between Islamic bank with its profit loss sharing principle and the conventional bank with its interest rate system, but still, is the return that Islamic banks give to their customer is purely based on the bank’s performance? There is always a question that the Islamic Bank system are benchmarking their return rate against the conventional Bank’s interest system. This research purpose is to test the independence of Islamic commercial bank from conventional commercial bank in Indonesia. This research is benchmarking to earlier research by Chong and Liu. The parameters being estimated are time deposit interest rate in conventional commercial bank in Indonesia and profit loss sharing rate in mudharabha time deposit in Islamic Commercial bank in Indonesia. Granger Causality Test is used to test if the time deposit interest rate affects the profit loss sharing rate and vice versa. This research shows that the interest rate of time deposit in conventional commercial bank in Indonesia doesn't effect the profit loss sharing rate in mudharabah time deposit in Islamic commercial bank. On the other hand, the profit loss sharing rate in mudharabah time deposit also doesn’t effect the interest rate of time deposit in conventional commercial bank in Indonesia.
