The effects of forging and heat treatment on microstructure and properties of high boron white cast iron were investigated in this paper. The results show that forging breaks up boride network and makes broken boride particles uniformly distributed in matrix. During subsequent heat treatment, spheroidized boride is able to be obtained. The hardness of high boron white cast iron increases slightly (from 51.4 HRC to 54.7 HRC) while the toughness increases obviously (from 5 J/cm2 to 107 J/cm2) by combined process of forging and heat treatment. Fracture morphology changes from brittle fracture to ductile fracture.

The anti-erosion effect of fluoride on the enamel surface was investigated by ATR-FTIR, SEM and EDX techniques. Four extracted teeth (two incisors and two premolars) were initially bleached with carabamide peroxide and etched with ortho-phosphoric acid then fluoride treatment was applied. Significant differences in enamel composition and morphology were observed providing the effect of fluoride application in remineralization of teeth. Infrared spectroscopy was employed to probe the changes in enamel structure. Scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis revealed higher content in F of teeth enamel. Morphology changes revealed a re-mineralization of enamel surface after the treatment with fluoride gel.

Computer modeling of the wrist has followed other fields in the search for descriptive methods to understand the biomechanics of injury. Using patient-specific 3D computer models, we may better understand the biomechanics of wrist fractures in order to plan better care. We may better estimate fracture morphology and stability and evaluate surgical indications, design more adequate or effective surgical approaches and develop novel methods of therapy. The purpose of this review is to question the actual advances made in the understanding of wrist fractures using computer models.

Using a centrifugal casting method, along with deformation and aging, we produced a high-strength, low-anisotropy Al-Li plate. The electron probe microanalysis, transmission electron microscope, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray diffraction were used to clarify the evolution of strengthening phases. Experimental results showed that centrifugal-cast Al-Li plate consisted of intragrain δ′—(Al,Cu)3Li precipitate and interdendritic θ′—Al2Cu particles. After cold-rolling to a reduction ratio of 60% and annealing at 800 K for 90 min, both primary θ′ and δ′ were dissolved in solid solution. Aging at 438 K for 60 h led to the formation of two kinds of precipitates (needle-like T1—Al2CuLi and spherical δ′ in two sizes), which acted as the main strengthening phases. The average values of ultimate tensile strength and yield strength for the anneal-aged plate reached 496 MPa and 408 MPa, with a total elongation of 3.9%. The anneal-aged plate showed mechanical anisotropy of less than 5%. The tensile fracture morphology indicated a typical intergranular fracture mode.
