Agroindustry needs further attention from the relationship between supply chain actors to improve efficiency in terms of partnerships and the application of modern technology today. Supply chain management in agroindustry emphasizes a management approach to a network of facilities and distribution channels that includes procurement of materials, production, and delivery of agroindustry products to end consumers. The research methodology used is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, which is the literature review method that identifies, evaluates, and interprets all findings on a research topic, to answer research questions. The results of the study imply that in order to manage the agroindustry supply chain the entire supply chain structure must be well understood by focusing more on the quality of external relations with supply chain actors and who focus actor on partnership, trust and sustainability in conducting agroindustry supply chain activities. Agroindustry managers must investigate why they must manage, what must be managed and how to manage agroindustry supply chains. To explore the agroindustry supply chain that a manager must integrated the system, examine the nature, linkages and dependencies between business operations in the agroindustry supply chain. Suggestions from researchers that this four-step approach to meeting sustainability must be implemented in the agroindustry supply chain, and optimalized or later all organizations will adopt the SCM concept in achieving competitive advantage.

Supply Chain Management operations have traditionally been a gendered career. The role of a diverse workforce, particularly women, is reexamined from the perspective of maximizing the bottom-line and profit sharing in the logistics industry. The unique and problematic diversity issues that underlie both practices and policy in the industry are discussed. These include the more obvious inequities in salaries, to the more insidious and often invisible assumptions that may underlie policy. The net result is detrimental for both business and the basic ethical imperative of equity. The narrative places the discussion of logistics business operations and decision-making in the context of the current research on gender differences, and examines possible ways to create more equitable enterprises, while maintaining and improving the bottom-line.

Purpose Firms are increasingly resorting to responsible supply chain management as they align their economic success with socially responsible initiatives in their value chain. This contribution aims to suggest that there are opportunities for global corporations who are keen on integrating responsible practices into their business operations. It is in their interest to report about their responsible supply chain management, social performance and sustainable innovations to their stakeholders. Design/methodology/approach This paper identifies future research avenues in the promising areas of responsible procurement and global supply chain management. Findings The corporations’ differentiated strategies as well as their proactive engagement in responsible supply chain management can lead them to achieve a competitive advantage in the long term. The low-cost producers may be neglecting the marketplace stakeholders, including suppliers, distributors among others. Moreover, the smaller businesses’ could not be in a position to follow responsible procurement practices, as they may lack the scarce resources to do so. Originality/value This paper raises awareness about the integration of socially responsible behaviours and sustainable practices in business operations. It contends that a responsible supply chain management necessitates an improved relationship with suppliers and distributors in the value chain. This stakeholder engagement with ultimately create value to the businesses themselves.

This chapter presents an overview of current research on green practices said to improve global supply chain performance by driving the discussion into four main processes: sourcing, manufacturing, logistics, and customer service. Authors present the importance of sustainable development in supply chain management from environmental and green perspectives. The chapter undertakes a literature review on supply chain management, sustainable performance, and green supply chain. It continues with a discussion of green supply chain practices from different functions' perspectives, as strategic sustainable performance improvement and as a source of competitive advantage for business operations throughout the supply chain. Finally, this chapter identifies research gaps, discusses potential research directions for green supply chain management, and provides recommendations to expand on research to address the shortcomings of the existing literature.

These days, the majority of management literature stresses the concept of “learning organizations”, i.e., an organization’s capacity to change. However, it is not easy for people to accept this fundamental aspect especially when it comes to the Internet and technologies’ growing importance in business operations. They claim it’s a temporary trend that will leave little visible change in the way business is conducted. For these businessmen, the philosophy seems to be “keep making better products and offering new services, and the customers will keep buying”. They ignore changes occurring in the buying habits of customers and impact of technology. There are some businesses who are happy to follow the leader and adopt tools like supply chain management. Supply chain management is a recognized discipline to shorten cycle times, reduce inventories, decrease logistics costs and streamline communication process across the business network. On the other hand are the businessmen who understand the learning organization concept and develop a forward orientation. They are prepared to ride the technology wave to new heights and accomplishments by using technology as a defining element in business operations. This chapter suggests a new approach to this new breed of entrepreneurs. In this chapter, we are trying to give supply chain management a customer orientation and to study its results. We highlight the synergistic advantage of linking supply chain management with customer relationship management into a tightly knit network using technology. The main focus is on finding a solution to deal with Internet empowered customers and to learn how to apply technologies demanded in the new digital economy.

The literature shows that companies increasingly need to become more sustainable. To achieve sustainable development, supply chain management needs to be related to sustainable business practices, which include relevant values and sustainable purchasing policies. Focusing on these principles on the topic of coffee, this study shows the difficulties associated with this product. The study finds that coffee production is dependent on factors unrelated to management. This paper presents a case study of Delta Cafés owned by Grupo Nabeiro, a Portuguese company that shows relevant ways of achieving sustainable business methods to be incorporated in supply chain management. Our research shows a business based on sustainable, efficient handling of the food safety of its product and certification along the supply chain, as well as an adaptable purchasing policy. By reviewing the literature and information provided by the company, we confirm that the case study is a business leader in innovation, thought process, and action related to sustainability practices. Our research illustrates how business operations and culture can be explored to achieve sustainable buying processes and practices.
