The aim of his studi was to evaluate the fish fauna in Danau Cala in dry season, transition season, and the tide season. The survey was conducted 3 times on July 2013, October 2013 and January 2014 as representative of dry, transition and tide seasons. The fish sampling was conducted by gillnets and fish traps. A total of 35 fish species were recorded during the study; 23 species in dry season, it was dominated by tembakang fish (Helostoma temminckii) from family Helosmatidae, Sepat siam fish(Trichogaster pectoralis) from Belontiidae family, and snakehead fish (Channa striata) of Channidae family. A total of 16 species were recorded on transitional seasons where baung fish (Hemibagrus nemurus) of the family Bagridae, and seluang fish (Rasbora sp) of the family Cyprinidae were predominant. In addition, 15 fish species were recorded on tide season which was dominated by baung fish (Hemibagrus nemurus) and tendon fish (Mystus sabanus) of family Bagridae

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui komposisi dan fluktuasi hasil tangkapan tuguk pada periode berbeda yang dioperasikan di Sungai Lempuing, Sumatera Selatan. Kegiatan penelitian dilaksanakan dengan metode survei pada periode musim peralihan penghujan sampai dengan kemarau (bulan April), musim kemarau (bulan Juni) dan musim penghujan (bulan Desember) tahun 2007. Komposisi jenis ikan dan hasil tangkapan diperoleh berdasarkan pada data pengambilan contoh pada saat ke lapangan dan data harian hasil tangkapan tuguk yang dicatat oleh 3 orang enumerator. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil tangkapan tuguk berbeda menurut periode waktu. Hasil tangkapan terdiri atas 11 jenis ikan untuk musim peralihan dan kemarau masing-masing berkisar 400-450 kg per unit per hari (rata-rata 411,2+14,1 kg per unit per hari) dan 250-300 kg per unit per hari (rata-rata 263,3+13,4 kg per unit per hari) dan 13 jenis ikan pada musim penghujan (bulan Desember) berkisar 700-750 kg per unit per hari (rata-rata 724,8+17,7 kg per unit per hari). Hasil tangkapan didominansi oleh jenis ikan lele (Clarias melanoderma) dan baung (Mystus nemurus). Selama penelitian, kandungan oksigen terlarut di perairan relatif rendah, berkisar 2-4 mg per l, namun dapat ditolelir oleh kelompok jenis ikan rawa (black fish). This research proposed to observed a catch composition and fluctuation of filtering device in different periods operated in the Lempuing River, South Sumatera. The research was conducted using survey method at a respective month of April (transition season), June (dry season) and December 07 (wet season). Fish composition and catch of tuguk were noted during survey and based on recording 3 enumerators. Descriptive analysis was used in this study. The results show that the catch of filtering device differed on diferent season periodes. A number of 11 fish species was caught at a respective season of transition season (April) of 400-450 kg per unit per day (average=411.2+14,1 kg per unit per day), dry season (June) of 250 300 kg per unit per day (average = 263,3+13,4 kg per unit per day), whilst at rainy season (December), fish catch composed of 13 fish species, ranging 700-750 kg per unit per day or (average = 724.8+17.7 kg per unit per day). Clarias melanoderma and Mystus nemurus were dominantly caught in the Lempuing River waters. During observation, dissolved oxygen content was relatively low (2-4 mg per l), that but could be tolerated by black fish.

We conducted an ichthyological survey during the dry season of 2006 on the semi-arid islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao to provide information on species composition, richness and distribution in natural and non-natural aquatic habitats. The dry season species assemblages (N = 9 species) comprised less species than the wet seasons, and these data refine our knowledge of the indigenous fish fauna and its refuge localities during phases of drought and ensuing high salinity. A hierarchical cluster analysis reveals that the three islands have different species compositions with Curaçao being the most diverse, probably due to its having the most habitats and freshwaters present throughout the year. Species richness was unrelated to salinity and species diversity was highest in canalised streams. In the dry season fewer amphidromous species are present than in the wet season. We found no significant effect of human-induced changes on the presence or absence of fish species in the Netherlands Antilles. The presence of exotic species (including Xiphophorus helleri on Aruba, a first record for this island, and Oreochromis mossambicus and Poecilia reticulata occurring on all three islands) did not have a clear effect on the presence of indigenous species, nor did human alteration of the habitats have an influence on the occurrence of fish species.

The present study deals with the ichthyofaunal diversity in the river Kosi at Almora district Uttarakhand. During the whole study period (Jan. 2013 to Dec. 2013) 12 species of fish fauna were observed. All the recorded fish species belonged to the families Cyprinidae and Botinae. Cyprinidae was the dominant family having 9 fish species out of the 12 species. The family Botinae comprised of 3fish species

Fishes are very important food resources in developing countries, due to high protein content and its nutritional value. The present study deals with Ichthyofaunal diversity of Bhagar oxbow Lake, in Dumraon, District, Buxar. Total of 44 freshwater fish species were listed that belonging to 30 genera, 16 families and 7 orders, described in the present study from February, 2018 to January, 2020. Among them Cypriniformes was the dominant order in term of species diversity that represent (16 species) while the Puntius is the most dominant genus, and held a major portion of the lake. Siluriformes (11 species), Perciformes represented with 6 species, Channiformes (4 species), whereas Mastacembeliformes & Clupeiformes represented (3 species) each and Tetraodontiforme represented only (1 species). Fish of the family Cypriniformes was the most abundant 37.20% of the total fish species followed by the family Siluridae 25.58% and Perciformes 13.95% were reported. Order Channiformes represent 9.30%, followed by the family Clupeiformes 6.97%, Mastacembliformes, 4.3% and Tetrodontiform represented with 2.32% of the total fish species. In the Bhagar oxbow lake, a large number of fish species have edible as well as ornamental and medicinal values. The species composition of ichthyofaunal diversity can also be better understand by this paper. This is the first ever study on the fish diversity and would help in explore the fish fauna and to develop a sustainable fishery practices need to Bhagar oxbow lake in Dumraon.

Abstract The Paraná River basin has about 600 fish species. In the Upper Paraná, 310 fish species were recorded, with 52 species were registered in the streams and headwaters of the Paranapanema River. The aim of this study was to characterize the stream fish communities in the Upper Paranapanema River basin. Samplings were conducted with electrofishing during the dry season in the year of 2014. The collection effort consisted of 30 streams stretches. As a result, 41 species of stream fish were recorded in the Upper Paranapanema River basin, distributed in 26 genera, 11 families and 7 orders. Thirty-nine percent of the species can be considered rare, 41% intermediate and 20% common. We captured approximately eight species by stream stretch and the estimated richness (Schao2) was 40 ± 6 species. Around 40% of the individuals had less than 50 mm in length.

Seasonal yield and composition of aninland artisanal fishery in a humic floodplain ecosystem of Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 19: 1181-1185. Seasonal yieldof an inland artisanal fishery was studied in 2015 in the Takapan Floodplain Lake located along the Rungan River of Central KalimantanProvince-Indonesia. Record on daily fish catch consisting weight data and species composition was made in situ along with a one-yearrainfall data that was collected from the nearest Meteorological Station located in Palangka Raya City airport. Results showed thatthroughout the year, total annual yield of captured fishes reached 4.8 tons comprised of 34 commercial freshwater fish species. Seasonalyield varied considerably in which fish capture was higher during the rainy season than on the dry season. The transition period fromrainy to dry season was found to be the peak period of fish capture in the floodplain. Of the 34 fish species, the most abundant specieswas Channa striata that accounted to almost 50% of total annual fish yield. The two most abundant fishes, Channa striata, andKryptopterus palembangensis were a top predatory blackfish and an omnivorous surface water whitefish, respectively. This resultindicated that the studied floodplain habitat was still in good condition, however, conservation is needed to maintain the sustainability offreshwater fish resource in the future.

This study aimed to provide a list of fish species from tributaries of rio das Almas and rio Maranhão basins, in the upper rio Tocantins basin, Goiás State, Brazil. For this study 21 stream stretches were sampled during the dry season in July 2010. A total of 2,279 individuals of 67 species, 19 families and five orders were collected. The most representative families in number of species were Characidae, Loricariidae, and Crenuchidae respectively. The genus Knodus, Hypostomus and Characidium showed the greatest abundance and distribution among the samplings. Poecilia reticulata was considered the only non-native species. The presence of a large number of endemic and undescribed species or with undefined taxonomic situation, in addition to the rapid habitat loss in this region, juts the need for the development of further studies in this basin.

SUMMARYThe fish fauna in the State of Acre represents 10·7% of all fish species recorded from Brazil, but, despite this, there are few fish parasite studies in this area. The recent expansion of fish farming in Acre prompted a need for helminthological studies of the most commonly consumed fish species in the area,Pimelodus blochii(Pimelodidae). The aim of this study was to analyse the helminth fauna ofP. blochiifrom the Acre and Xapuri Rivers in Northwestern Brazil. Numerous nematodes were collected from the intestine and two species of the family Atractidae were identified:Rondonia rondoniTravassos, 1920 andOrientatractis moravecin. sp. The new species is distinguished from its congeners mainly by having: 10 pairs of caudal papillae (3 pairs pre-cloacal, 2 pairs ad-cloacal and 5 pairs post-cloacal); unequal spicules of 161–198 and 69–100µmlong; and a gubernaculum 38–58µmlong with an antero-lateral process. Morphological and ultrastructural data onO. moravecin. sp. andR. rondoniare presented, in addition to new genetic data based on partial 18S rDNA and 28S rDNA. The taxonomic status ofLabeonema synodontisi(Vassiliadès, 1973) is discussed, suggesting that it should be returned to the genusRaillietnema.

AbstractThe knowledge of biotic and abiotic drivers that put non-native invasive fishes at a disadvantage to native ones is necessary for suppressing invasions, but the knowledge is scarce, particularly when abiotic changes are fast. In this study, we increased this knowledge by an analysis of the biomass of most harmful Prussian carp Carassius gibelio in a river reviving from biological degradation. The species' invasion followed by the invasion's reversal occurred over only two decades and were documented by frequent monitoring of fish biomass and water quality. An initial moderate improvement in water quality was an environmental filter that enabled Prussian carp’s invasion but prevented the expansion of other species. A later substantial improvement stimulated native species’ colonization of the river, and made one rheophil, ide Leuciscus idus, a significant Prussian carp’s replacer. The redundancy analysis (RDA) of the dependence of changes in the biomass of fish species on water quality factors indicated that Prussian carp and ide responded in a significantly opposite way to changes in water quality in the river over the study period. However, the dependence of Prussian carp biomass on ide biomass, as indicated by regression analysis and analysis of species traits, suggests that the ecomorphological similarity of both species might have produced interference competition that contributed to Prussian carp’s decline.

AbstractCoexistence of ecomorphologically similar species in diverse Neotropical ecosystems has been a focus of long-term debate among ecologists and evolutionary biologists. Such coexistence can be promoted by trophic plasticity and seasonal changes in omnivorous feeding. We combined stomach content and stable isotope analyses to determine how seasonal variation in resource availability influences the consumption and assimilation of resources by two syntopic fish species, Psalidodon aff. gymnodontus and P. bifasciatus, in the Lower Iguaçu basin. We also tested the impact of seasonality on trophic niche breadth and diet overlap of these two dominant omnivores. Seasonal changes in resource availability strongly influenced the consumption and assimilation of resources by the two fish species. Both species exhibited high levels of omnivory, characterized by high diversity of allochthonous resources in the wet season. Terrestrial invertebrates were the main component of diet during this season. However, in the dry season, both species reduced their isotopic niches, indicating diet specialization. High diet overlap was observed in both seasons, but the isotopic niche overlap was smaller in the dry season. Substantial reduction in the isotopic niche of P. bifascistus and a shift toward aquatic invertebrates can facilitate coexistence during this season of resource shortage. Feeding plasticity allows omnivorous fish to adjust their trophic niches according to seasonality, promoting the exploitation of different resources during periods of greater resource diversity. This seasonal variation could be an important mechanism that contributes to the resource partitioning and coexistence of dominant omnivores in Neotropical streams.
