Aprendizagem Significativa. Educação Matemática. AbstractThis article presents some reflections based on a bibliographic research on mathematical modeling as a teaching methodology. The assumptions, characteristics, stages, and possibilities of curricular organization of activities based on this methodological alternative are discussed. The role of significant learning theory in the foundation and defense of mathematical modeling as a teaching proposal is highlighted. A comparison of the various perspectives from the scientific texts selected for study and analysis is made to find convergences that highlight the potential of mathematical modeling to: (1) favor the pedagogical use of the students' prior knowledge and (2) instigate their commitment to learning situations. The work is concluded with arguments that characterize this teaching methodology as fostering significant learning of mathematical content, to provide mathematics teachers with theoretical subsidies that help them to become aware of the cognitive interaction process, among the new information and the students' previous knowledge that underlies the mathematical modeling activities. Keywords: Mathematical Modeling. Meaningful Learning. Mathematics Education.

Mathematics exists as rooted in human ideas, ways, and techniques to respond to their environments. Along with its development, mathematics has been taught through formal education or schooling in the flat- not flexible ways and far from students' social and cultural lives. Indonesia is rich with culture, including the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). It is called a city of culture. Educators are not yet aware of this richness in the learning process to integrate it as the starting point. It is hard to find in mathematics textbooks in Indonesia, which put cultural context as starting points. Therefore, this study aims to explore Yogyakarta's culture in terms of contexts used in mathematics learning.  It is an ethnography study. Furthermore, the data was collected through literature artifacts, field observation, and interviews with resource persons who understand the seasons, system, and calculation of birth and death days. It is to clarify the researcher's understanding of the literature. This study showed that Yogyakarta's people use mathematical modeling to determine the seasons' system and funerary dates. These models have the potential to be used as a starting point in learning mathematics.

Mathematical modeling appears today as a dynamic tool for teaching and learning mathematics, because it connects mathematics with real world applications thus increasing the student interest on the subject. In the present paper a method is developed that uses grey numbers for evaluating student mathematical modeling capacities and a classroom application is presented illustrating it. This new assessment method is useful in particular when the student performance is evaluated with linguistic characterizations (grades) and not with numerical scores, which makes non feasible the calculation of the mean value of those grades. Grey numbers are indeterminate numbers which are defined with the help of the real intervals and they have found nowadays many applications in real life, science and engineering for handling approximate data.

Kata kunci: workshop, pemodelan matematika, Geogebra, Tora Improving Professionalism of Mathematics Teacher In Gunungkidul Vocational Schools Through Mathematics Modelling WorkshopAbstractThe learning paradigm in vocational high schools should consider the needs of the world of work, referring to the competency standards of the world of work or industry such as problem solving skills and critical thinking skills. This ability can be developed through learning mathematics, especially mathematical modeling. Therefore, the service team deems it necessary to hold a workshop to facilitate vocational teachers in increasing mastery of material on mathematical modeling. This Community Service Program, held in the form of a workshop for 2 days to (1) Explain about Mathematical Modeling, (2) Develop mathematical models of contextual problems / application problems, (3) Solve contextual problems / application problems and (4) Learning media based information technology that can help solve contextual problems / application problems. Based on the evaluation, several things are obtained as follows: 1) The PPM Mathematics Modeling workhop activity has been carried out and runs well and smoothly; 2) Participants attend the workshop enthusiastically and view that this activity needs to be held; 3) Based on the evaluation results from the questionnaire, the implementation of the workshop activities went very well with a score of 4.29 from a maximum score of 500; 4) Based on tests of mathematical modeling abilities, the participants obtained an average score of 7.85 from a maximum score of 10. Key words: workshop, mathematical modelling, Geogebra, TORA
