COVID-19 has proven to be a humanitarian crisis. The global economy has come near about a standstill with the spread of coronavirus, as restrictions are imposed to impact the spread of virus. The problem is a terrific problem, which has many unforeseen consequences. And we require a commander or a leader who can steadily see us through this. Leadership is very important element for crisis management. Leadership is the key component factor in shaping the crisis management. This paper provides a view and understanding of pandemic style of leadership. It is realized that COVID-19 is a complex problem, which represents varied challenges, and with challenges comes opportunities and strategies for the leaders. In this paper, researcher has proposed practices to be exemplified by the leaders (with the perspective of COVID-19 pandemic). The aim of this paper is to provide insights on the aspects of leadership in context of COVID-19 pandemic.

In humanitarian crisis situations, there is always more than one organization or agency involved in early warning, preparedness, and response to the crisis. These participating actors usually need a shared computer-based framework to exchange information, monitor the status of the crisis, communicate and coordinate operations among them in order to make their collaborations better, and make the right decisions at the right times. The aim of this paper is to present a web framework that has a modular architecture. This web framework has been realized by advanced web technologies and design patterns in software engineering. It is made up of diverse web modules and can be reusable and configurable to adapt with particular crisis contexts. The feasibility as well as the efficiency of this web framework is also demonstrated in the paper through real and complex crisis management scenarios.

Engineering and Engineering Technology students need to learn to innovate and embrace new technologies as they develop and progress through their careers. The undergraduate degree program needs to provide this first opportunity at innovation allowing the student to gain experience and confidence at solving technological problems. This paper describes the learning experiences in innovation using an undergraduate course in robotics and automation. The course is composed of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology students. The paper relates the successful attempt the students had in developing and using innovation through the creation opened-ended industrial robot system projects. The undergraduate student project teams in the course are self-directed and have to use innovation to develop a robotic project of their own design. This breaks the cycle of students just doing the same preset experiments that others have done before them. Although doing preset experiments can reinforce theory given in classroom, it does little to develop skills in innovation, which will be the key to success in the global economy. The course provides an excellent framework for the student teams to demonstrate their ability to innovate using new technology to solve a complex problem while having the mentorship from instructors as they take their first steps in actually doing innovation. The confidence and process used to solve these problems will provide a basis upon which they can formulate new strategies to incorporate new technologies throughout their career.

The global economic system is at the stage of its active formation and development. Its borders and conditions of existence are constantly changing, which is accompanied by crises, which affect the economic systems of all countries participating in the world economy. The current global fnancial crisis, which is global and systemic, revealed a lack of effective theoretical approaches to the development of practical methods for overcoming the crisis phenomena used in the management of integrated agro-formations. This predetermines the need to improve the system of global crisis management that contributes to an adequate response to crises and is based on innovative approaches and the application of modern concepts of sustainable development in order to ensure economic security. The globalization of the fnancial and food markets, on the one hand, allows the agro-holdings to compare and evaluate the effciency of investment simultaneously within the entire international economy; expand and strengthen the fnancing capacity of various economic projects. On the other hand, qualitative changes in the global economy are of a deep and risky nature, due to the rapid development of fnancial innovations, which leads to an insuffcient degree of development of the system of ensuring economic security of international activities of economic entities. As a result of the analysis of the activities of integrated agro-formations, the current trends in the development and functioning of agricultural holdings in the context of the global fnancial crisis have been revealed. The specifcs of ensuring sustainable development of agrostructures in the context of global crisis management are defned: soil-climatic, biological, ecological, technological, and organization of agricultural territories. A model for ensuring the economic security of the agricultural holding through a sustainable development strategy was developed and justifed, including the following elements: a mission, a goal and a system of balanced indicators. The decomposition of the activities of integrated agro-formation into groups of balanced indicators has been made: fnance, customers, internal business processes, training and development, competitors and on-farm decomposition system. The internal and external threats to economic security, which are the basis for the selected groups of the BSS (balanced scorecard system) for integrated agro-formations, are singled out. Fields of economic security of the agro-structure (critical, low, normal and high) are defned, as well as sustainable development strategies for each feld, allowing to move from a critical level of economic security to the high one.

Summary The economic crisis, which has affected the global economy in recent years, also exerted impact on, among others, the tourism sector. It view of the worse financial and economic results obtained by enterprises operating in tourist sector and other negative phenomena tourist entities started paying attention to tools adequate for crisis management. The objective of article is to define the impact of economic crisis on the functioning of Polish tourist enterprises both in the perspective of its effects and activities undertaken to overcome them. The paper presents an attempt to verify the hypotheses, referring to the opinion of tourist companies’ managers, according to which an increase in operating costs represents the more important result of the current global crisis, rather than a drop in revenues or smaller number of clients. In spite of that, among crisis management instruments higher significance, than cost reduction, is associated with such activities and instruments as: promotion and its intensification, higher online sales intensity, offering discounts on services or winning new sale markets. It refers to hypothesis verification suggesting that these enterprises are not prepared for crisis situations and the activates undertaken are of temporary nature. The discussion presented in the paper is based on empirical research results carried out among entrepreneurs operating in tourism sector in the most popular tourist locations in The Karkonosze and The Izery mountains, i.e. Karpacz, Szklarska Poręba, Świeradów Zdrój and Jelenie Góra. The empirical part of the paper was preceded by theoretical remarks referring to attitudes of crisis management in tourism. The results of conducted research indicate that in the opinion of the majority of tourist companies’ managers/owners the crucial impact of the global crises was observed in higher functioning costs, while the most important instrument for its effects counteracting is the extension of promotion and offer distribution, mainly online, with the cost reduction to follow.

The growing "chaotic" potential of modern crises, such as the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, imposes an urgent need to review the existing and find more flexible methodological tools, in order to strengthen preparedness and timely response to the crisis. By analyzing various aspects of managing the current crisis situation, it is suggested that the application of different methods of mathematical-operational research would result in potentially new and significant insights into this complex problem situation. The paper, therefore, seeks to point out the implications of formal security theories and different theoretical models of resilience on COVID-19 crisis management. First, the application of deterministic chaos theory as a tool for early warning and, thus, avoiding strategic surprises is suggested. In that way, the threatening "chaotic" potential of the risks that could be seen would be recognized. Furthermore, predictive models, as a "part" of the apparatus of certain versions of game theory, can contribute to more optimal strategic decision-making, in terms of making decisions that would maximize the "usefulness" of the outcome of the actors themselves (primarily towards "nature"), i.e. minimize inevitable negative side effects. Finally, the potential of the application of various multivariate techniques for making the most valid decisions at the tactical and operational level is pointed out. Finally, models of resilience are presented, each of which has the potential to analyze the impact of certain aspects of managing the current crisis situation.
