With the rapid development of information communication technologies and enhanced Internet penetration, the nature of a consumer’s daily activities has changed and most offline activities have migrated towards online activities. Moreover, customers have shown a greater tendency to shift to online activities from their traditional offline activities. In this light, e-commerce transactions in Sri Lanka are expected to grow in the near future. Apart from traditional Internet technologies, a variety of new social commerce activities has started influencing the behavior of customer activities including the online purchasing. Even though the impact of traditional Internet technologies on purchase intention of customers has been examined by many researchers, the same has not been examined adequately in relation to social commerce related activities. Therefore, this study is aimed at identifying the factors affecting online purchase intention of customers from both the technological and social commerce perspective. The theoretical model developed in the study was empirically tested through survey of 292 MBA students from two leading universities and a prominent institute in Sri Lanka. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data. The study revealed that online purchase intention positively and significantly related with perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, website content and trust. Moreover, it was identified that trust has a full mediation effect between perceived ease of use and purchase intention as well as between website content and purchase intention. Further, it was found that trust has a partial mediation between perceived usefulness and purchase intention.

Online fashion retailers in Oman are facing challenges such as high competition from traditional retailers and moderate customer interest in making online purchase. The present study investigated this issue with the aim to identify and test the factors which can influence customer online purchase intention. Based on customer-oriented and technology-oriented perspectives, we tested the influence of four factors namely trust, perceived risk, shopping enjoyment, and web-site design quality on customer’s online purchase intention. We utilized quantitative approach and convenience based non-random sampling to collect data from customers who are engaged in online transactions (n=170). Our findings indicate that trust (Beta=.255, P<.05); perceived risk (Beta=-.276, P<.05); and website design quality (Beta=.118, P<.05) exert significant influence on customer’s online purchase intention. The four factors together explain 58% variation in the dependent variable of customer online purchase intention. Based on these results, we concluded that both customer as well as technology related factors are important in online context.  Keywords: Trust, Risk, Shopping Enjoyment, Website Quality, Purchase Intentions, Online, Fashion, Oman.

This study examines the factors affecting millennials and generation Z’s purchase intention in online shopping. The variables under investigation, namely, impulse purchase orientation, quality orientation, brand orientation, online trust, and online purchase experience, were tested. The data collection approach used a web-based questionnaire that was created and distributed to 584 university students in Malaysia. Data were analyzed via the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach to examine the posited research hypotheses. The results revealed that impulse purchase orientation was the strongest predictor of consumers’ online purchase intention in Malaysia. This is followed by online trust, and the online purchase experience and quality orientation. Meanwhile, brand orientation did not affect customers’ intention to purchase online. The results contribute new and extensive inputs into the marketing theory and expand the emergent literature on consumer intention to shop online in Malaysia, whereby rich multi-ethnic cultures should be fully exploited. Future directions are offered.
