AbstractSocial behaviour is a complex construct that is reported to include several components of social approach, interaction and recognition memory. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is mainly characterized by progressive dementia and is accompanied by cognitive impairments, including a decline in social ability. The cholinergic system is a potential constituent for the neural mechanisms underlying social behaviour, and impaired social ability in AD may have a cholinergic basis. However, the involvement of cholinergic function in social behaviour has not yet been fully understood. Here, we performed a selective elimination of cholinergic cell groups in the basal forebrain in mice to examine the role of cholinergic function in social interaction and social recognition memory by using the three-chamber test. Elimination of cholinergic neurons in the medial septum (MS) and vertical diagonal band of Broca (vDB) caused impairment in social interaction, whereas ablating cholinergic neurons in the nucleus basalis magnocellularis (NBM) impaired social recognition memory. These impairments were restored by treatment with cholinesterase inhibitors, leading to cholinergic system activation. Our findings indicate distinct roles of MS/vDB and NBM cholinergic neurons in social interaction and social recognition memory, suggesting that cholinergic dysfunction may explain social ability deficits associated with AD symptoms.

This chapter continues the discussion of Hume's theory of justice. Justice addresses the problems arising from the inevitable interdependence of human social behaviour. The sole virtue of justice lies in coordinating this social interaction. Its necessity lies in the disastrous consequences of failure to coordinate it. The special genius of Hume's account of justice lies in his realization of the fact that in this necessity, and the strategic interdependence of social behaviour, also lies the possibility of success. The problem, as Hume sees it, is to explain how general concurrence in a scheme of rules for mutual benefit might arise. Hume's explanation involves giving an account of the strategic situation facing each of the parties in the group and a description of the processes of self-adjustment of belief, intention, and sentiment which result from recognition of this situation. His argument proceeds in two stages: in the first he explains the emergence of a sense of common interest; in the second he explains how this convention is made specific.

Social behaviour is regulated by activity of host-associated microbiota across multiple species. However, the molecular mechanisms mediating this relationship remain elusive. We therefore determined the dynamic, stimulus-dependent transcriptional regulation of germ-free (GF) and GF mice colonised post weaning (exGF) in the amygdala, a brain region critically involved in regulating social interaction. In GF mice the dynamic response seen in controls was attenuated and replaced by a marked increase in expression of splicing factors and alternative exon usage in GF mice upon stimulation, which was even more pronounced in exGF mice. In conclusion, we demonstrate a molecular basis for how the host microbiome is crucial for a normal behavioural response during social interaction. Our data further suggest that social behaviour is correlated with the gene-expression response in the amygdala, established during neurodevelopment as a result of host-microbe interactions. Our findings may help toward understanding neurodevelopmental events leading to social behaviour dysregulation, such as those found in autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).

In contemporary society marginalization, alienation of social groups is increasing. Among other things, it is related to changes in the phenomenon of social solidarity, which are influenced by the processes of individualization, diversification, globalization, segmentation. Architectural works of modern architects, that together with customers represent the attitudes of nowadays, often reflect the desire to dominate. While educating young architects it is important to provide them not only with technical and artistic skills, but also to make them understand how architecture can take part in the the actualization of harmonic social behaviour stereotypes, the psychological attitude to encourage the pursuit of social solidarity. It is therefore important to learn how architectural composition can ensure a harmonious social interaction. The related adequate experience is worth studying. It is particularly important to evaluate the works of different periods of our country’s famous architects. V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis could be distinguished as one of such architects to whom responsibility to society was particularly significant. Analysis revealed that V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis‘ works are characterized by predominance of an organic compositional type what means that the programming of social solidarity attitudes by architectural compositional measures is ensured. In particular, these properties are characteristic of V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis‘ buildings realized in the heart of Kaunas city. These buildings are better harmonizing with adjacent buildings and the whole street space. Moving away from the center, in the buildings erected by V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis design, the number of vertical elements increases, separate parts of a building have a more distinct height, the silhouette becomes more active, more dynamic. Typologically such a building could be assigned to the hierachical compositional type. In contrast to ’’buildings of the street”, ”of the city”, these buildings represent ’suburban” buildings, what claims to be a local compositional center. Altogether V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis‘ works illiustrate his ability to ”read” the situation in an urban context and use properly selected compositional building parameters, especially properly chosen measures operating in a dense group of existing buildings where the solidarity phenomenon is of great importance. Santrauka Šiuolaikinėje visuomenėje didėja atskirtis, socialinių grupių nesusikalbėjimas, užsisklendimas, kuriant grupinius idealus, siekiant nereikšmingų tikslų. Greta kitų dalykų, tai susiję su socialinio solidarumo kaita, kuri veikiama tokių šiuolaikinės civilizacijos reiškinių kaip individualizacija, diversifikacija, globalizacijos procesas, segmentacija. Šiuolaikinės kartos architektų, kartu su užsakovais esančių savojo laikotarpio atstovais, darbai ypač dažnai atspindi siekį dominuoti, išsiskirti bet kokioje miesto dalyje, bet kokioje pastatų apsuptyje, todėl ugdant šiuolaikinius architektus svarbu perteikti jiems ne tik meninio komponavimo įgūdžius, bet suvokimą, kaip architektūra gali prisidėti prie harmoningos socialinės elgsenos stereotipų aktualizavimo, ypač skatinant socialinį solidarumą (nes tai susiję su visuomenės grupių santykių harmonizavimo užtikrinimu). Todėl svarbus kompozicinių priemonių, galinčių užtikrinti harmoningos socialinės sąveikos nuostatų aktualizavimą, socialinio solidarumo nuostatų įtvirtinimą, pažinimas, o tam ypač svarbu šiuo aspektu įvertinti mūsų šalies įvairių laikotarpių įžymių architektų kūrybą. Vienu iš tokių architektų yra V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis, kuriam architekto atsakomybė visuomenei buvo ypač svarbi. Architekto V. Landsbergio-Žemkalnio darbų analizė parodė, kad jo kūrybai būdingas organiškojo kompozicinio tipo vyravimas, o kartu – socialinio solidarumo programavimą užtikrinančių architektūrinių kompozicinių priemonių dominavimas. Ypač šiomis programuojančiomis savybėmis pasižymi V. Landsbergio-Žemkalnio pastatai, esantys pačioje Kauno miesto širdyje – Naujamiestyje. Tai pasireiškia tuo, kad šie pastatai yra daugiau miestietiško tipo, aktyviai „bendradarbiauja“ su gretimais pastatais, su visa gatvės erdve. Tolstant nuo centro, pastatuose gausėja vertikalių elementų, daugiau skiriasi atskirų pastato dalių aukštis, siluetas darosi aktyvesnis, dinamiškesnis. Tipologiškai tai būdingi priemiesčių ar užmiesčio pastatų, kurie pretenduoja į lokalinio kompozicinio centro vaidmenį, bruožai. V. LandsbergioŽemkalnio kūryba liudija apie jo sugebėjimą suprasti urbanistinę situaciją ir joje deramai parinkti statinio kompozicinius parametrus, ypač – tankiai užstatytoje aplinkoje, kur solidarumo vaizdinis reprezentavimas yra itin aktualus.

This research target was toidentify the influence of Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) type of Cooperative Learning Model accompanied with LearningTogether (LT) to student social interaction andstudy result. This was quasi experimental with post-test only control group design. Research subject was 63 student of 10th grade who was divided onto 35 student of experiment group and 28 student of control group. Experiment group was learned by Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) accompanied with LearningTogether (LT) and control group by conventional expository model. There were instrument on this research: (1) treatment instrument consist of Syllabus, RPP (teaching plant), and LKS (work sheet); (2) evaluation instrument consist of RPP observation sheet, social interaction questionnaire, social interaction observation sheet, and achievement test. Data was collected by observation, questionnaire, and test technique. Data was analyzed by descriptive analysis and independent sample t-test through SPSS 16.0 for windows as hypothetic test. Based on questionnaire, student social interaction analysis result showed enhancement between before and after treatment, from 71.67 % to 75.76 %, and based on direct observation, 67.50 %, on good category. Student study result enhancement analysis result was showed by their classical complete study, form 8.57 % to 94.28%, and t-test of study result was divine significance value 0.000 (<0.05), so that Ho was denied and Ha was accepted. So, it was concluded that: (1) Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) type of Cooperative Learning Model accompanied with LearningTogether (LT) was influence to student social interaction; (2) Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) type of Cooperative Learning Model accompanied with LearningTogether (LT) was influence to student study result.

AbstractSocial interaction with a song tutor is often found to be important for the song learning process in songbirds, but the mechanism is still unclear. The main aim of this study is to find indications for contingencies between singing and interactive behaviours, between and within tutors and tutees, which might influence the song learning process of zebra finches (Taeniopygia guttata). To this end we observed the interactions of eleven juvenile zebra finch males with their fathers (the tutors) and their mothers during the sensitive phase for song learning, and examined four different types of possible contingencies. The evidence for these contingencies was not very strong: (1) We found some weak indications that a tutee can anticipate tutor song by preceding tutor behaviour. There were no indications that (2) tutor song is contingent upon subsequent behaviour of the tutor, that (3) juvenile males can control singing of their tutor by preceding operant social behaviour, or that (4) social behaviour of the tutor reinforces singing of the tutee. We found some indications that the juvenile males attend actively to the tutor song. Furthermore, we found that the juvenile males maintained more mutual interactions with their father than with their mother. In general, we did not find any clear relationship between aspects of social interaction and song copying in zebra finches.
