Abstract One of the actions that affect the quality of life of the family as a complex system of relationships is interpersonal communication that takes place between the members of the family. In line with the transactional analysis, the trend in psychology founded by E. Berne, relationships between individuals should be based on honest and open disclosure of one’s desires and attitudes, i.e. variety of transactions. Otherwise, there are specific game leading to maintain and increase the distance between family members, weaken the ties between them and leading to a reduction in the quality of interpersonal relationships. The paper below aims to make closer the problems of transactional analysis, beginning from the explanation of the structure of “Ego” according to Berne and the terms “transactions”, “reinforcement” and “life scripts”. There will be presented also games played in family environment and their consequences for the proper functioning of the family.

(1) Background. This study assesses the quality of life in families with a member with an intellectual disability using the Family Adjustment and Adaptation Response framework. (2) Methods. The study included 515 Spanish participants whose family members with disabilities range in age from infancy to adulthood. We hypothesized that it is possible to predict parenting stress by paying attention to the meaning families give to themselves and their circumstances while controlling for the impact of other variables such as family capabilities and characteristics of the family member with disabilities. We used the Beach Center Family Quality of Life Scale and the section on Exceptional needs of medical and behavioral support from the Supports Intensity Scale, together with other potential predictors. The subscale on parental stress from the Parenting Stress Index–Short Form was utilized as a criterion measure. (3) Results. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that 49% of parental stress was predicted by dysfunctional interaction, difficult behaviors, low emotional wellbeing, poor family interaction, as well as kinship as parents, and the severity of both the medical needs and intellectual disability. (4) Conclusions. The stress experienced by those families is mostly predicted by the meaning they give to themselves and their circumstances. Implications of these findings for service delivery are discussed.

Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic disorder. From 1997 to 2015, 473 DS patients were born in Latvia. Prenatal diagnosis allows terminating pregnancies with high risk of DS. The aim of our research was to assess the impact of environmental quality (family and extra-familial care) on the child's development, range of services for DS patients, and to identify the optimal early support system. Families and specialists were interviewed to analyze differences between children in families and institutional care clients. State financial support for a DS child in the family is less than to a child in institutional care, and does not provide adequate rehabilitation services. Conclusion: the environment (family/institution, available resources, and rehabilitation services) where the child grows up after the birth, determines both their quality of life and level of independence development. If the somatic problem-solving path is clear, then social integration needs to be improved. Support of inter-professional teams for the families is necessary immediately after the diagnostic statement in order to ensure a more favourable family environment and to reduce the risk of institutionalization. Despite the potentially higher early intensive rehabilitation costs, in the course of time we can predict that it will provide an economic effect on the state and improve the patient and their family's quality of life.

The ECT is still considered the fastest and the most efficient way in treatment of great depression, although there are some controversies about its effects on brain. Most of patients suffering from great depression have family, and family members willingly or not, have impact on patient's quality of life, way and prognosis of disease.Clinic for psychiatry Banja Luka in last year have reaffirmed use of ECT (pulse electricity in hospital condition) with machine which simultaneously monitor EEG, EMG, ECG and PSI.With this work we want to present two cases (total 15 till now) of different diseases who were submitted to ECT treatment, with accent on family environment. As long as we live inside sick family, everything that healing can achieve is only “first aid”, bandaging of psychological wounds so patient can function only in the same environment which made him sick in the first place.

Objective: To understand the relationship between caregivers and patients who are undergoing the process of finitude with the environment where they are during this process. Method: This is a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research. According to the saturation criterion, there were 19 participants: 10 patients (5 in palliative care at home and 5 in curative care in Intensive Care Units - ICU) and 9 relatives of the respective patients. They responded to a narrative interview, which is characterized as an instrument that makes it possible to understand how the participant perceives and experiences the environment around her/him. For the analysis of the material, the interview was interpreted through textual analysis using the Iramuteq software. Results: The results indicated great adversities in the process of finitude in both environments: ICU and home; however, the family environment is seen as promoting quality of life and of death with dignity by patients, due to the support network offered by family and friends. Conclusion: the person-environment relationship in the process of finitude is characterized by affections and meanings, and needs to be taken into account as a facilitator of quality of life.

Objective: The aim of the study was to examine the quality of interpersonal communication among family members during COVID-19 restrictions in Saudi Arabia. The study objective was achieved through investigating the three main questions: How is the pandemic influencing the connection and communication between the family members? How do the family members stay connected during the COVID-19 restrictions in Saudi Arabia? And lastly, what type of social media platforms are families using to stay connected with each other? Methodology: The present research used a Google survey form as a tool to receive responses from 400 participants in Saudi Arabia. Results The results have shown that COVID-19 has greatly affected people's interactions, including family interpersonal communication. Families have been forced to adapt modern forms of communication rather than indulging in normal face-to-face interactions, as various governments across the world encourage virtual communication. Conclusion: IMO has become very popular among various family members; however, some other applications have also been used to stay connected with the family, like Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp.

Communication is essential toward all families and given the technology that we have today, Facebook has been one of many social media sites that lets people stay connected whereever they may be, although, not all members of the family are in to using Facebook to communicate with their loved ones. This study aims to determine the effects of social media on interpersonal communication among family members, in particular, it analyzes the effectiveness of Facebook and family communication. In connection with this, the emphasis of this study is the effects of social media on the quality of interpersonal communication skills among family members. A sample of 25% of 120 individuals from four different colleges during the 2016-17 school year were the respondents of this study. A questionnaire was given to the respondents which included their profile, number of hours and activities on Facebook, and lastly the quality of their interpersonal communications with their family members. The results of the study show that communicating through Facebook more than likely leads to misunderstandings among family members as the messages are not expressed properly. Hence, a family must take time to talk and interact with each other personally in order to avoid these kinds of conflicts and maintain a good family relationship.

This article presents a model for intervening with families that are addressing a new diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) in one member. The model is collaborative, integrative, and family-centered. It involves both working with the family collaboratively and providing strategies to promote greater collaboration within the family. The model integrates elements of crisis intervention theory, psycho-education, and family-centered approaches. The model was developed with families addressing MS, and was piloted with three families. The intervention was found to improve family members' ability to collaborate with each other. Such increased collaboration may enhance the family's ability to manage long-term illness more effectively, help the family address the impact of the illness on all family members, and generally improve the family's quality of life.
