This experimental research study was conducted to compare the round-trip time of commonly used network cables among Internet Cafés in Estancia, Iloilo. Specifically, it focused on the brand names of network cable and the distance of cable from the access point to remote terminal. This study attempted to determine whether there was no significant difference among cables which differs from their brand names and distances. The research instrument used in gathering the data was the researchers-made survey form which was submitted to the three panels of experts for face validation before the instrument was given to Internet Cafe Owner’s and computer stores in the Municipality of Estancia. The statistical tools used were the frequency counts, percentages, rank, arithmetic mean, and chi-square. The results revealed that there were significant differences in the round-trip time between brands of network cables when tested at long and short distances from access point to remote terminal. It was found out that there was no significant difference in the overall round-trip time between brands of network cables when tested at long, medium, and short distances from access point to remote terminal. This simply showed that Internet Cafés can make use of any brand available in the market because they perform the same. However, among the three brands being tested it was also revealed that the best brand of network cables in terms of round-trip time was the Belden.

Rapid sequence intubation (RSI) is a procedural skill that house officers (HO) in Malaysia need to learn during their training in emergency department (ED) posting. This study aimed to evaluate the confidence and competency of HO in RSI after completed training in the ED of a university hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted among 44 HO. When they begin their posting in ED, a pre-test was done with a questionnaire to evaluate their knowledge and confidence level. A post-test was conducted three months later with a similar questionnaire. They underwent an objective structured clinical examination to evaluate their skill. A feedback survey form was filled in by the HO regarding their satisfaction in training in emergency rotation. The mean score for pre-test and post-test were 8.75 ± 3.005 and 14.86 ± 2.258, respectively (P = 0.000). There was an improvement in knowledge level and confidence level between pre-test and post-test (all P = 0.000). 43.2% were competent in knowledge, while 65.9% were competent in skill. 35 house officers filled in the feedback survey form. It showed that 42.9% (n = 15) were very satisfied and 28.6% (n = 10) were satisfied with the training in ED. There was an improvement in knowledge and confidence level in RSI among the HO after ED rotation. The clinical exposure in intubating real patients was limited among HO due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The training of HO for RSI in ED needs to be further improvised to optimize their learning process.

EPI sciences The main objective of this study in the district of Douala V is to set up participatory pre-collection of household solid waste which, by protecting the environment, promotes the recovery of this waste. More specifically, the aim was to make an inventory of solid waste management, to raise awareness of households on participatory pre-collection, to describe the technical organization of the service and to evaluate the parameters of financial analysis for a pre-collection activity. To do this, available documents, direct observations, interviews and survey form were used. The main results of this study showed that the daily production or ratio of one inhabitant of Douala V is 1.05kg/hab/jour; the annual production is estimated at 363,870 tons. The low collection rate of about 23% was observed. With regard to household sensitization, 43% of the households surveyed are willing to pay for the pre-collection service and 52% are against and 5% are uninformed. The provisional financial analysis is based on one year; the investment cost is estimated at 3 327 400 CFA (5079 €). Overall, it appears that the solid waste collection rate in Douala V is below average, so it appears that pre-collection and recovery of household solid waste have a major role to play in the solid waste management system.

Abstract. With the problem of informal settlements in the Philippines, mapping such areas is the first step towards improvement. Object-based image analysis (OBIA) has been a powerful tool for mapping and feature extraction, especially for high-resolution datasets. In this study, an informal settlement area in UP Diliman, Quezon City was chosen to be the subject site, where individual informal settlement structures (ISS) were delineated and estimated using OBIA. With the help of photogrammetry and image enhancement techniques, derivatives such as elevation model and orthophotos were produced for easier interpretation. An initial rule-set was developed to remove all non-ISS features from the base image–utilizing spectral values and thematic layers as main classifiers. This classification technique yielded a 94% accuracy for non-ISS class, and 92% for the possible ISS class. Another rule-set was then developed to delineate individual ISS based on the texture and elevation model of the area, which paved the way for the estimation of ISS count. To test the robustness of the methodology developed, the estimation results were compared to the manual count obtained through an online survey form, and the classification and delineation results were assessed through overall and individual quality checks. The estimation yielded a relative accuracy of 60%, which came from the delineation rate of 63%. On the other hand, delineation accuracy was calculated through area-based and number-based measures, yielding 58% and 95%, respectively. Issues such as noisy elevation models and physical limitations of the area and survey done affected the accuracy of the results.

The COVID-19 pandemic is striking the world with serious public health and socioeconomic complications. The pandemic has influenced all forms of daily life, including educational institutions. Therefore, this cross-sectional survey was conducted to understand knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to COVID-19 among the students of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. The data was collected using an online self-directed questionnaire. The survey form includes six items about sociodemographic characteristics, 14 knowledge-based questions, seven questions on attitude, and eight questions on practices. The sample number was calculated using the Raosoft sample size calculator. A total number of 3,854 students, including 1,823 men and 2,031 women, were engaged in this survey, having student representation from all the provinces in the country. The data were analyzed using a chi-square test. A total of 97% of the students knew that the etiological agent of COVID-19 is a virus and that it is a disease of the respiratory system (94%). Many students kept visiting their relatives during the lockdown (45%), and their relatives kept visiting them at home (59%). The responses from the students varied a lot on specific questions about the transmission of the virus. Women tended to have less information regarding precautionary travel measures (p < 0.01), but supplemental knowledge of prevention of disease transmission from positive patients (p < 0.01). Conclusively, the majority of the university students surveyed had imperative knowledge, a good attitude, and active practice in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Moreover, the KAP scores have varied by demography, gender, and the number of family members. Therefore, continuous awareness of preventative behaviors should be disseminated regularly in emergencies.
