Communication is essential toward all families and given the technology that we have today, Facebook has been one of many social media sites that lets people stay connected whereever they may be, although, not all members of the family are in to using Facebook to communicate with their loved ones. This study aims to determine the effects of social media on interpersonal communication among family members, in particular, it analyzes the effectiveness of Facebook and family communication. In connection with this, the emphasis of this study is the effects of social media on the quality of interpersonal communication skills among family members. A sample of 25% of 120 individuals from four different colleges during the 2016-17 school year were the respondents of this study. A questionnaire was given to the respondents which included their profile, number of hours and activities on Facebook, and lastly the quality of their interpersonal communications with their family members. The results of the study show that communicating through Facebook more than likely leads to misunderstandings among family members as the messages are not expressed properly. Hence, a family must take time to talk and interact with each other personally in order to avoid these kinds of conflicts and maintain a good family relationship.

This study aims to perform a significance test of (1) the positive communication within the family on students’ assertive behavior, (2) the teachers’ interpersonal communication on students’ assertive behavior, and (4) the positive family communication and teachers’ interpersonal communication simultaneously on students’ assertive behavior. This is a quantitative study using a survey questionnaire in data collection. This research is conducted at MAN Model Manado. The research population is all students of the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade, totaling 1406. The sample size of 87 students is selected by a simple random sampling. The results show that (1) while the level of the positive communication within the family, and of the students’ assertive behaviour perceived by the students is relatively low, the level of the teachers’ interpersonal communication is relatively high; (2) a  positive communication within the family has a significant effect on students’ assertive behavior; (3) an  interpersonal communication has a significant effect on students’ assertive behavior; and (4)  a positive family communication and teachers’ interpersonal communication simultaneously have a significant effect on students’ assertive behavior.Keywords: Positive communications within family, teachers’ interpersonal communications, students’ assertive behaviors

In family communication, the effective communication stands as the base of strong relations among the family members. However, a little gap in communication weakens family relationships and creates severe problems. Like all types of advanced communication channels; the advent of social media has also facilitated the effectiveness of interface among people. Although, social media's instantaneous communication process ended the communication gap among masses. Thus, many scholars believed that it has also created a communication gap among humans, especially in family communication. In this way, this study aimed to examine the communication gap created by social media among middle-class families of sub-division Latifabad Sindh, Pakistan. The researchers adopted a focus group discussion technique to collect data from three middle-class families. The result of this study shows that most of the focus group participants prefer communication in interpersonal communication settings. Further, it reveals that the majority of the family members use social media by smartphone, tabs and laptops. Significantly, the findings of this study emerged that social media creates a communication gap among middle-class families of Latifabad Hyderabad, Sindh –Pakistan.

AbstractThis article wants to explain that the Coronavirus Disease or COVID-19 pandemic disrupts the structure of family life. Since the government suppressed physical distancing, it indirectly allowed almost 24 hours to be at home. The COVID-19 pandemic greatly tested family resilience. Positively, the impact of independent quarantine gives time to get to know each other deeply among family members. On the other hand, the more often family members meet increases boredom, which then causes friction to occur. This paper writes how the family communication management strategy when Pandemic COVID-19 to create a harmonious and prosperous family, conduct interpersonal communication, responsibility for the environment and family, intensity and direction of communication with a harmonious atmosphere, healthy parenting even in a physical atmosphere distancing or guarding the distance according to government recommendations. Keywords: family communication management, COVID-19 pandemic, family resilience AbstrakArtikel ini ingin menjelaskan bahwa pandemik Coronavirus Disease atau COVID-19 mendistrupsi tatanan kehidupan keluarga. Sejak pemerintah menekannya physical distancing atau penjagaan jarak secara tidak langsung memberikan waktu nyaris 24 jam berada di rumah. Pandemi COVID-19 sangat menguji ketahanan keluarga. Secara positif, dampak karantina mandiri memberi waktu untuk saling mengenal secara mendalam antar anggota keluarga. Disisi lain, semakin sering anggota keluarga bertemu meningkatkan rasa jenuh yang kemudian menimbulkan gesekan terjadi. Tulisan ini menulis bagaimana strategi manajemen komunikasi keluarga saat Pandemi COVID-19 sehingga tercipta keluarga yang harmonis dan sejahtera, melakukan komunikasi antar pribadi, tanggung jawab pada lingkungan dan keluarga, intensitas dan arah komunikasi dengan atmosfir yang harmonis, pola asuh hidup sehat walaupun dalam suasana physical distancing atau penjagaan jarak sesuai anjuran pemerintah. Kata kunci: manajemen komunikasi keluarga, pandemik COVID-19, ketahanan keluarga

Abstract One of the actions that affect the quality of life of the family as a complex system of relationships is interpersonal communication that takes place between the members of the family. In line with the transactional analysis, the trend in psychology founded by E. Berne, relationships between individuals should be based on honest and open disclosure of one’s desires and attitudes, i.e. variety of transactions. Otherwise, there are specific game leading to maintain and increase the distance between family members, weaken the ties between them and leading to a reduction in the quality of interpersonal relationships. The paper below aims to make closer the problems of transactional analysis, beginning from the explanation of the structure of “Ego” according to Berne and the terms “transactions”, “reinforcement” and “life scripts”. There will be presented also games played in family environment and their consequences for the proper functioning of the family.

Abstract Millions of families are affected by elder family financial exploitation (EFFE), but the consequences for lifelong intergenerational family relationships and family functioning remain largely unexamined (i.e., parent/child, siblings). This study examines the consequences of experiencing EFFE on the quality of family relationships from the perspective of non-victim, non-perpetrator concerned family members (CFMs). Data from a larger EFFE mixed-methods study were utilized. A voluntary sample of 28 CFMs who had experienced EFFE participated in semi-structured, in-depth interviews and brief surveys. Analysis included identifying quality of family relationship themes from data related to differences EFFE has made in their family. Participating CFMs were primarily adult children of older victims, and siblings of the primary perpetrators. The findings reflect three patterns of changes in quality of family relationships between the CFMs and other family members, including: (a) Restoring trust and recovery within the family, (b) Alliances and taking sides, and (c) Estrangement and cutoff. While families were never the same after experiencing the exploitation, for some was a healing process to accept the family situation and restore and repair trust. Redefining who would be family moving forward was a focus for some families when perpetrators and CFMs took sides and formed allies with others. In the most dramatic changes, siblings, parents and others became cutoff and isolated from other family members. While a loss of relationship quality was common, strengthening of relationships also occurred. Understanding EFFE from an ecological family systems perspective can help to inform needed EFFE interventions, both processes and outcomes.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the perceptions of the family members of users of a children’s psychosocial care center, regarding the facilitating factors and the difficulties in the communication with the health professionals. Method: a qualitative and descriptive study conducted with 25 family members of users of a children’s psychosocial care center in a city of Minas Gerais (Brazil). Data collection took place between April and July 2017 using focus groups and a semi-structured script for the implementation of group sessions. Data was analyzed according to content analysis, thematic category. Results: two categories emerged from the analysis: Professional-Family relationship and Suggestions to enhance communication, which included practicalities and difficulties in communication. The data showed that the professional-family relationship refers to the professionals’ positive actions, which facilitate communication, and to their negative actions, which means offering a distant and dehumanized care and failing to provide guidance. The suggestions to enhance communication were directed to the interventions focused on the family and on the dynamics and management of the service. Conclusion: there is a need for collaboration among management, staff and family members, which can contribute to a better health care and to building more solidary and dialogical relationships.

Background: The occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the general lifestyle of people across the globe, especially with the new safety directives, which have affected people’s interactions in many different ways. Objective: The aim of the study was to examine the quality of interpersonal communication among family members during COVID-19 restrictions in Saudi Arabia. The study objective was achieved through investigating the three main questions: How is the pandemic influencing the connection and communication between the family members? How do the family members stay connected during the COVID-19 restrictions in Saudi Arabia? And lastly, what type of social media platforms are families using to stay connected with each other? Methodology: The present research used a Google survey form as a tool to receive responses from 400 participants in Saudi Arabia. Results The results have shown that COVID-19 has greatly affected people's interactions, including family interpersonal communication. Families have been forced to adapt modern forms of communication rather than indulging in normal face-to-face interactions, as various governments across the world encourage virtual communication. Conclusion: IMO has become very popular among various family members; however, some other applications have also been used to stay connected with the family, like Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp.

The article aims at analysis of gender and family stereotypes in father-child communication in an animated series Family Guy, featuring a typical American family. The study focuses on Peter Griffin's discourse, the father of the family, containing his communication with two of his teenage children, a son and a daughter, unveiling gender peculiarities in father-son and father-daughter discourses. The attempt is made to disclose how gender and family roles are verbalized in communication between family members. The conversation, discourse and corpus-based analyses have been used to analyze the main character's discourse in order to single out the father's specific vocabulary — through word lists, keyword lists, clusters and collocations — he uses while communicating with his son and daughter. The findings show that Peter Griffin chooses different language means while talking to his son and daughter. Thus, his discourse addressing his adolescent son Chris is rich in direct addresses, mainly commands when the father tries to discipline his son. Offering his son emotional support or encouragement the father stays forthright with him creating an image of “real men” stereotypical conversations. On the contrary, while communicating with his daughter Peter modifies her name Meg addressing her as honey, sweetheart, one-of-a-kind in father-daughter discourse. However, using diminutives he humiliates his daughter and makes her feel an abandoned child. In this way, he makes her feel special but in a negative way. Family communication created in the animated series reflects gender stereotypes in father's attitude to his children belonging to two different sexes. Nevertheless, this verbal tendency does not affect relationships within the family. For the future, it is worthwhile to compile a larger corpus including mother-child, child-father, and child-mother discourses to get more representative results
