AbstractA mixed lithium/beryllium diethylhydroxylaminate compound containing nbutyl beryllium units of total molecular composition nBe(ONEt2)2 [(LiONEt2)2nBuBeONEt2]2 (1) was isolated from a reaction mixture of nbutyl lithium, N,N-diethylhydroxylamine and BeCl2 in diethylether/thf. The crystal structure of 1 has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The aggregate is composed of two ladder-type subunits connected in a beryllium-centered distorted tetrahedron of four oxygen atoms. Only the lithium atoms are engaged in coordination with the nitrogen donor atoms. The DFT calculations support the positional occupation determined for Li and Be in the crystal structure. The DFT and the solid-state structure are in excellent agreement, indicating only weak intermolecular interactions in the solid state. Structural details of metal atom coordination are discussed.

Exclusive, high-yield formation of the cyclotrimers of ethynylferrocene (1) was observed when TaCl5 in benzene was employed as catalyst. Analysis of the resulting isomer mixture by means of HPLC and 1H NMR revealed the presence of 1,3,5-triferrocenylbenzene (sym-2) and 1,2,4-triferrocenylbenzene (asym-2) in the ratio of 4 : 6. A small amount of pure sym-2 isomer was isolated, and its solid-state structure was established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The molecules of sym-2 possess a distorted up-up-down arrangement of the ferrocenyl groups attached to the benzene ring.

AbstractReaction of SbCl3 with KPcp (Pep = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) in etheral solution at -78 °C affords dimeric pentamethylcyclopentadiene and orange-red (PcpSb)4 in high yield. 1H, 13 C NMR, IR, UV and mass spectra are reported. The tetrameric structure was found by a crystal structure determination carried out with X-ray diffraction data collected at -50 °C (928 independent observed reflexions. R = 0.055). Crystal data: tetragonal, space group I41/amd, a = 2400.0(5), c = 781.7(5) pm, Z = 4. The (PcpSb)4 molecules have a non-planar Sb4 ring with Sb -Sb bond lengths of 285.6(1) pm, one η1-Pcp ring is attached to each Sb atom. Contrary to the solid state structure, monomeric molecules are found in benzene and hexane solutions.

The crystal structure of syn-2,11-diselena[3,3]metacyclophane, 1a, has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and refined to an R-value of 0.039. The crystal structure is monoclinic with a = 1926(1), b = 801.4(3), c = 924(1) pm, β = 98.9(1)°, and is isomorphous with that of the analogous sulphur compound. The space group is P21/n with 4 molecules per cell, D(meas) = 1.733 g cm−3, D(calcd) = 1.726 g cm−3. The molecule has the syn-conformation with the largest possible Se—Se distance of 721.8 pm. The benzenoid rings form a dihedral angle of 19.1°. The distance between the internal aryl hydrogen atoms on rings 1 and 2 is 285.1 pm. The internal aryl C atoms are 314.6 pm apart. The 1Hmr solution spectra of 1a are consistent with the solid state structure, and can be explained without involving equilibration with an anti-conformer.

The solid-state structure of chlorido[2-(N,N,N',N'-tetramethylamidinio)ethynido]silver (3), obtained by C(sp)-metalation of N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-propiolamidinium chloride with silver(I) oxide, has been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. A comparison of bond lengths in the propiolamidinium moiety with those of the two genuine propiolamidinium salts 4 and 5, as well as with data for the isolated N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-propiolamidinium cation obtained by quantum-chemical calculations, has been made. It can be concluded that complex 3 is better described as a (tetramethylamidinio) ethynyl than as a 3,3-bis(dimethylamino)allenylidene silver complex

AbstractA new metal-organic framework, [Pb(hmpcaH)2]n (1), has been hydrothermally synthesized from Pb(OAc)2 · 3H2O and 2-hydroxy-6-methylpyridine-4-carboxylic acid (hmpcaH2; 2), and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental and thermogravimetric analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In complex 1, each hmpcaH− ligand represents a three-connected node to combine with the hexacoordinated Pb(II) ions, generating a 3D binodal (3,6)-connected ant network. The crystal structure of 2 was determined. The solid-state fluorescence properties of 1 and 2 were investigated.

A new solvatomorph of [Au3(1-Methylimidazolate)3] (Au3(MeIm)3)—the simplest congener of imidazolate-based Au(I) cyclic trinuclear complexes (CTCs)—has been identified and structurally characterized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed a dichloromethane solvate exhibiting remarkably short intermolecular Au⋯Au distances (3.2190(7) Å). This goes along with a dimer formation in the solid state, which is not observed in a previously reported solvent-free crystal structure. Hirshfeld analysis, in combination with density functional theory (DFT) calculations, indicates that the dimerization is generally driven by attractive aurophilic interactions, which are commonly associated with the luminescence properties of CTCs. Since Au3(MeIm)3 has previously been reported to be emissive in the solid-state, we conducted a thorough photophysical study combined with phase analysis by means of powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), to correctly attribute the photophysically active phase of the bulk material. Interestingly, all investigated powder samples accessed via different preparation methods can be assigned to the pristine solvent-free crystal structure, showing no aurophilic interactions. Finally, the observed strong thermochromism of the solid-state material was investigated by means of variable-temperature PXRD, ruling out a significant phase transition being responsible for the drastic change of the emission properties (hypsochromic shift from 710 nm to 510 nm) when lowering the temperature down to 77 K.

A new and facile synthetic route to the known neutral cluster ((PhCH2)2SnO)6[((PhCH2)2SnOH)2- (CO3)]2 (2) as well as its reactivity toward trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (HO3SCF3, TfOH) are reported. The solid-state structure of the new solvate 2·6C7H8 has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The core of 2 can be described as a pair of coplanar pentanuclear [(PhCH2)2SnO]5 ladders bridged at their ends by two carbonate groups. Successive additions of TfOH to a suspension of 2 in CD3CN were monitored by 119Sn{1H} NMR spectroscopy showing the transformation of the fingerprint of 2 (δ = −244, −246, −306 ppm), via new upfield signals, to a final broad resonance located at δ = −474 ppm. Thereafter, two unprecedented ionic monobenzyltin(IV) oxo clusters, 3 and 4, resulting from a debenzylation reaction and exhibiting unusual hexa- and undecanuclear frameworks, respectively, have been isolated as single crystals.

The reaction of N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl)hydroxylamine with potassium hydride in pentane affords a product of the formula {K6[OSiMe3]4[ON(SiMe3)2]2}, resulting from deprotonation followed by N-O bond cleavage and 1,2-silylshift. The compound was characterised by elemental analysis and by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The aggregate consists of a K3O3 bis-cubane core, with N(SiMe3)2 groups at the oxygen atoms shared by the two cubes, andMe3Si groups attached to the four O vertices. Two weak K···N interactions are also detected in the solid state structure.
