Abstract: This article is the author's reflection on the long-term viability of the presidential library system and how it continues to evolve to meet the needs of the twenty-firstcentury visitor and researcher. The reflections and assessments are based on the author's long association with this unique system from the time in 1969 when she started as an archivist at the Lyndon B. Johnson Library until her present position as the Assistant Archivist for Presidential Libraries.

Financial performance of individual organizations differ very significantly, however, the performance is distinguishable between public sector companies and private sector companies as their nature and size of investment and business environment is different . The ECIL is a very vast growing company which requires additional funds on a regular basis, whether internal or external. Particularly, the company needs both long term and short-term finances in view of its present position and enormous scope for improvement in the services provided. The present paper is a modest attempt to discuss the financial performance analysis of ECIL, Hyderabad in terms operating profits, capital employed ratios and turnover in a comprehensive manner over a period of 10 years.

The Limited success in decreasing the mortality of coronary heart disease (CHD) in general and of sudden death in particular, stresses the needs and importance of systematic research into the etiology and pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and CHD. Prevention seems to be the only effective approach. WHO has included in its CTD long-term programme activities related to these problems. The network of collaborating centres with good epidemiological skills carrying out studies in well-defined populations could provide opportunities for special studies on the role or haemostasis in the etiology and pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and acute MI. In collaboration with ETRO and ISFC methods are being reviewed and sought which are capable of detecting a tendency to arterial thrombosis and atherogenesis. The present position is being discussed.

The National Archives and Records Administration, in partnership with private support foundations, administers 13 individual presidential libraries comprising the Presidential Library System. These privately constructed, publicly supported archives not only preserve official presidential records but through their museum displays offer visitors a glimpse into the life and times of specific presidents. Utilizing legislation, archival documents, and elite interviews to characterize governance and administration structures of these relationships, this study outlines the nature of current public–private partnerships within the Presidential Library System, as well as the potential departure from existing frameworks for future partnerships absent formalized guidance procedures.

Intravenous diazepam is the drug of choice for the treatment of status epilepticus, but oral diazepam has been little used as a long-term prophylactic because in most patients the doses needed cause central depression with sleep and drowsiness while in others tolerance develops. Nevertheless benzodiazepines are being used in epilepsy for short-term courses or to supplement more conventional drugs. This article reviews the present position.

The recent announcement by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and the Barack Obama Foundation that there will be no Barack Obama Presidential Library has received very little attention or scrutiny. This essay examines that decision and places it in historical context based on the author’s expertise gained through years of working within NARA at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum and writing about the early history of NARA and the presidential library system. The essay explores the many ways in which the failure to build an Obama Library adversely impacts researcher access to important historical information, damages the quality of museum exhibits at a privately run Obama museum, threatens the presidential library system as we know it, and ultimately impairs our democracy.

Context. Swift J0243.6+6124 is a unique system. It is the first and only ultra-luminous X-ray source in our Galaxy. It is the first and only high-mass Be X-ray pulsar showing radio jet emission. It was discovered during a giant X-ray outburst in October 2017. While there are numerous studies in the X-ray band, very little is known about the optical counterpart. Aims. Our aim is to characterize the variability timescales in the optical and infrared bands in order to understand the nature of this intriguing system. Methods. We performed optical spectroscopic observations to determine the spectral type. Long-term photometric light curves together with the equivalent width of the Hα line were used to monitor the state of the circumstellar disk. We used BVRI photometry to estimate the interstellar absorption and distance to the source. Continuous photometric monitoring in the B and V bands allowed us to search for intra-night variability. Results. The optical counterpart to Swift J0243.6+6124 is a V = 12.9, O9.5Ve star, located at a distance of ∼5 kpc. The optical extinction in the direction of the source is AV = 3.6 mag. The rotational velocity of the O-type star is 210 km s−1. The long-term optical variability agrees with the growth and subsequent dissipation of the Be circumstellar disk after the giant X-ray outburst. The optical and X-ray luminosity are strongly correlated during the outburst, suggesting a common origin. We did not detect short-term periodic variability that could be associated with nonradial pulsations from the Be star photosphere. Conclusions. The long-term optical and infrared pattern of variability of Swift J0243.6+6124 is typical of Be/X-ray binaries. However, the absence of nonradial pulsations is unusual and adds another peculiar trait to this unique source.

Abstract Bananaquits (Coereba flaveola) on the island of Grenada in the West Indies have a plumage color polymorphism in which individuals are either yellow and black or all black. In the southwest of the island there is a cline in plumage morphs in which the frequency of black individuals increases with distance from the island's southwestern tip. We describe the present position (September 2002) and form of this cline in comparison to when it was last mapped, 21 years ago. There has been no net movement of the cline during this period. We suggest that previous movement in the cline could have been related to long-term variation in rainfall.

Traditional libraries will evolve to digital libraries which are clearly superior at: Dissemination, sharing, linking, storing, and information variety. Therefore, one can say that electronic libraries have specific needs in terms of content, services and long-term preservation. In contrast, digital libraries suffer from several inherent constraints: storage limitation, performance, relevancy, decentralization, lack of semantic, fault tolerance, scalability. The main intention of this paper is to present a design of an integrated digital library system based on peer-to-peer data mining. This article aims also to prove that peer-to-peer mining, an emerging branch of distributed data mining, is a hot research area well suited to overcome intrinsic problems of digital libraries.

Ethiopia is a country of a centuries-old tradition and history of writing. It possessed its own unique system for gathering materials of historical importance and a pecular library system. Throughout the years manuscripts were kept under the custody of Ethiopian Church monks. In the 20th century Ethiopia’s succesive rulers attached great importance to the building of a European style central repository of all written materials. They established and gradually developed the National Archives and Library of Ethiopia (NALE). The paper outlines the history of NALE from its beginnings up to now.
