Voluntary HIV counselling and testing (VHCT) is one of the key strategies in the prevention of HIV in Ethiopia. However, utilisation of the VHCT services amongst adolescents has been reported as low by previous studies. The purpose of this study was to investigate adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes towards VHCT services amongst adolescents attending high school in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. A cross-sectional school-based design using quantitative methods was employed to attain the objectives of the study. Data collection was done using self-administered structured questionnaires amongst 378 adolescent high school students. Data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings revealed that 75.7% of students are aware of the voluntary HIV counselling and testing services; 62.2% use the services and suggested that VHCT services should be located in schools and youth clubs for better access by adolescents. Thirty-two percent of respondents rated themselves at risk of HIV infection and 35.2% were not willing to disclose their HIVpositive status to anybody. The findings of the study clearly indicate a need for a more accessible voluntary HIV counselling and testing services for adolescents.

AbstractMathematical learning can never be separated from the arithmetic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division operations. Arithmetic operations that are still widely complained of by junior high school students or equivalent are multiplication arithmetic operations. This study aims to determine the location of students' difficulties in multiplication operations. The analysis technique in this article uses quantitative methods with descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The subjects of this study were 25 junior high students in Lampung Province. Difficulties faced by students is that it is difficult to understand the intentions of the questions which reach 40%, these difficulties which trigger other difficulties arise. These difficulties include unit multiplication operations, tens, hundreds to thousands. Researchers collected data using a Google form web-based interactive service questionnaire by giving a test in the form of 10 story questions and a column of reasons for difficulty while working on the questions. The questions given refer to the level of difficulty, the validity of the questions with the Product Moment correlation technique for each item and the reliability that reaches 0.707 using the Cronbach Alpha method. Obtained 55% of junior high school students or equivalent difficulty when working on the problem. Keywords: Multiplication, Junior high school, Student difficulties.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between attitudes towards physical activity and self-esteem of high school students. Three different scales were used on 626 adolescents in total who lived in Sivas, found by random sampling method. The first scale is “the Personal Information Scale” consisting of 6 items to determine the demographical characteristics of the participants; the second scale is “the Cognitive Behavioral Physical Activity Questionnaire (CBPA)”, which was developed by Schembre et al. (2015) and was adapted to Turkish by Eskiler et al. (2016) to determine the participants’ attitudes towards physical activity; and the last scale is “the Self-Esteem Scale” by Rosenberg (1965) and adapted to Turkish by Çuhadaroğlu (1985) to determine the levels of self-esteem of the participants. The study data was analyzed by SPSS 25 package software. The obtained data were represented as values of frequency (f), percentage (%), average (x-), and standard deviation (±). Pearson Correlation analysis was applied in order to determine the effect of physical activity attitudes on self-esteem. The age average of the participants was determined to be 16,28 (±0,97). The gender distribution was 312 females and 314 males, and the number of those who were participating in licensed sports was 336, and that of those who were not was 290. It was determined that there was a positive correlation between the participants’ attitude towards physical activity and their self-esteem. In conclusion, a positive correlation was found between the attitude towards physical activity and self-esteem. In the study, it was suggested that the tendencies towards physical activity should be protected.

This work presents the results of a postgraduate thesis on communication, particularly the use of language. Messenger is one of the most popular ways for communicating by signs and symbols. This study was carried out on junior high school students in state education. This research explores the possible impact on junior high school students’ written work due to their use of Messenger. To address this question, the referential communication model with the qualitative approach was used in order to carry out a comparative study. Data were gathered from 16 junior high school students between 15 and 17 years of age who were paired into two groups for each part of the investigation. The research showed that it was possible to categorize the students into three groups: those who constantly use Internet, those who do not constantly use Internet and the rest who do not use it. The end results reveal that there is little relationship between the use of signs and symbols on Messenger and the quality of written work presented by junior high school students.
