The emergence of Differential Item Functioning (DIF) indicates an external bias in an item. This study aims to identify items at scientific literacy skills with integrated science (SLiSIS) test that experience DIF based on gender. Moreover, it is analyzed the emergence of DIF, especially related to the test construct measured, and concluded on how far the validity of the SLiSIS test from the construct validity of consequential type. The study was conducted with a quantitative approach by using a survey or non-experimental methods. The samples of this study were the responses of the SLiSIS test taken from 310 eleventh-grade high school students in the science program from SMA 2 and SMA 3 Tegal. The DIF analysis technique used Wald Test with the Rasch model. From the findings, eight items contained DIF in a 95 % level of trust. In 99 % level of trust, three items contained DIF, items 1, 6, and 38 or 7%. The DIF is caused by differences in test-takers ability following the measured construct, so it is not a test bias. Thus, the emergence of DIF on SLiSIS test items does not threaten the construct validity of the consequential type.

In the strict challenges faced by society, a paradigm shift is needed in the education system that can provide a set of 21st century skills needed by students to deal with every aspect of global life. One of them is scientific literacy. Unfortunately, the scientific literacy ability of students in Indonesia is still low. The Inquiry and SETS models have been widely applied to improve students' scientific literacy skills. However, weaknesses are found such as: students still cannot use their content knowledge to explain scientific phenomena perfectly; and the need for more in-depth inquiry activities so that students' abilities in designing and evaluating scientific investigations obtain excellent results. Therefore, innovation was created to develop the BRADeR learning model based on consideration of the strengths and weaknesses of the inquiry model and SETS as well as theoretical and empirical support. This research serves as a preliminary study in the process of developing the BRADeR model to improve students' scientific literacy skills. This study includes a needs analysis and literature review. The results show that innovation can be maintained as a basis for developing a hypothetical model of the BRADeR learning model. The syntax of the BRADeR model includes: brainstorming, reading, analyzing, decision making, and reflection. The hypothetical model of the BRADeR learning model must be tested to meet the aspects of validity, practicality, and effectiveness to improve the scientific literacy skills of junior high school students.

Scientific literacy is a person's ability to understand science, communicate science, and apply scientific knowledge to solve problems so that they have high attitudes and sensitivity to themselves and their environment in making decisions based on scientific considerations.  This study aims to determine the understanding of high school students regarding scientific literacy and to determine the effect of high school students' interest in learning on science literacy learning outcomes.  This study involved 201 high school students in Surabaya, Sidoarjo and Gresik.  This study uses a mixed-method, namely, by using a quantitative approach and a qualitative approach.  Quantitative analysis was perform using regression and correlation tests.  The qualitative research obtains from questionnaires and interviews with students. The answers from students categorized into four levels, namely a score of 0 (did not answer the questions), score 1 (responded to questions but not quite right), score 2 (answered correctly) and score 3 (answered correctly)  with exact categories).  From the research results, it can conclude that students' understanding of scientific literacy is still low.  The regression test where the significance value is 0.095> 0.05, which means that there is no influence of students' interest in learning on the results of students' scientific literacy skills, while the correlation test shows that the correlation between students' interests and the effects of scientific literacy skills (r)  is 0.118.  This indicates that there is a shallow relationship between students 'interest in learning and the consequences of high school students' scientific literacy skills.  This research recommended that students can improve their understanding of scientific literacy by getting used to reading scientific literacy before learning begins so that students' interest in reading scientific phenomena increases.

Abstract. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the expression of items used to examine personal epistemological beliefs could affect the probabilities of response for compared groups and research outcomes. Differential-item-functioning (DIF) analysis on school types and location of school according to the Rasch model was performed in this study. Nonacademically inclined school students (n = 212) and academically inclined school students (n = 197) were selected to complete the questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of three dimensions of beliefs about knowing and two dimensions of beliefs about learning. The results of the DIF analysis suggested that the items in the dimensions about knowing favor academically inclined students and students from schools located in the northern areas of Taiwan. The items in the learning dimensions favor nonacademically inclined students and students from schools located in the southern areas of Taiwan. The group comparisons were different between the scale that included the DIF items and the scale that excluded the DIF items. The discussion addresses the value of the precise detections for inappropriate items and the effect of the academic achievement on completing the survey.
