In L2 research tradition worldwide the concept of motivation has evolved as a well researched, theoretical construct. On the contrary, the notion “unmotivation” (Sakui & Cowie, 2012) has remained equally underresearched as an area of study. The present study is an attempt to embark on scholarly investigation on learner unmotivation in the context of Bangladesh. Here, four EFL teachers from three different universities offer narratives on student writers’ unmotivation in writing class. The participants reveal the factors causing learner unmotivation as well as share the strategies for handling unmotivation. According to the participant teachers, factors yielding unmotivation in student writers include personal, social, and national level factors, alongside teachers’ lesson planning and teaching. To address these factors actions such as reinforcing students positively, offering them freedom during learning, notifying them early about a lesson’s significance and objectives, and revising the approach to providing feedback can be effective. On the basis of these findings, derived through Narrative inquiry (Barkhuizen, Benson, & Chik, 2014), the research offers some pedagogical and research implications at the end.

All English departments provide the listening courses that must be studied by their students. In fact, the students often find difficulties in understanding the listening texts so that their listening comprehension becomes low. This condition also happens to the students of English department of UNHASY. One of the causes of it is the teaching strategy for listening which is not appropriate. Therefore, the researcher implemented frontloading strategy for teaching listening in this study. The purpose of this study was to know whether or not frontloading strategy influenced the students’ listening comprehension. The research method used was quasi experiment with the design of pretest posttest nonequivalent control group. The population and the sample of the research were the two classes of the second semester students of English education department of UNHASY in the academic year of 2018/2019. After the implementation of frontloading strategy in experimental class and direst listening in control class, the students’ post listening comprehensions were compared by using independent sample t-test whose result was that sig. (2-tailed) (0.004) was lower than 0.05. In short, it is concluded that frontloading strategy influences students’ listening comprehension.

This research was aimed at describing the strategies of proficient EFL students’ refusal realization in Indonesian and in English and the occurrences of pragmatic transfer (PT) in their refusal realization. Qualitative research method was employed. As the subsidiary of the qualitative research method, quantitative research method was also employed. The subjects were 18 EFL students of English Study Program Sriwijaya University whose TOEFL prediction scores were 450 above. DCT was used as the instrument of collecting data. Data were analyzed based on combined refusal classification by Wannaruk (2005) and Campillo (2009). The results of this research show that proficient EFL students’ mostly used the indirect strategies in their refusal realization both in English and Indonesian. Nevertheless, differences occurred in term of semantic formula choice and order in the twelve situations of DCT. Thus, PT could be observed. In consequences, it is suggested to foreign language teacher or lecturers should be aware that fluency in a language involves both a mastery of linguistic knowledge and pragmatic knowledge. Foreign language learners should be aware of the fact that social variables play a role when refusing, and that their inappropriate refusals may make them sound rude, vague or abrupt. Due to the limitation of this study, future researchers should also explore the differences between EFL  students’ refusal realization in their mother tongue  and Indonesian, the idiosyncrasies that occur in  the proficient EFL students’ refusal realization, and communication strategies used by EFL students in realizing their refusals.

Learning academic writing seems to be a great challenge for most English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students in non-native English-speaking countries, including in Indonesia. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the issue appears to be more challenging where teachers are persuaded to learn from their home environment (LHE). Several online applications are freely available, and one of the most common applications is Google Classroom. However, the use of such application towards the students’ performance and perception remains understudied. This research aimed at exploring the practices of Google Classroom in facilitating the Academic Writing course of EFL undergraduates. Engaged by 96 participants of third-year students in the English Education Program, the research conducted an explanatory sequential research design by correlating the results data on writing assignments and a set of questionnaires. The findings indicated a significant correlation between using Google Classroom and the students’ writing performance. Moreover, most students expressed their satisfaction with Google Classroom’s practical features to get involved in the academic writing course. The students were satisfied with Google Classroom’s features that were easy to be recognized and easy to be operated. The Google Classroom features also provide clear instructions, practical directions, and the most valuable feature, that is assignment reminders for the students. It can be said that using Google Classroom in the EFL academic writing course at higher education is a great experience and brings great advantages to students’ outcomes.
