Glucocorticoids are widely used in the treatment of many diseases. They have multiple therapeutic applications mainly because of their anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive and antiproliferative activity. Glucocorticoids are broadly used in the therapy of dermatological diseases. Various routes of glucocorticoids administration are known. In the treatment of skin disorders, glucocorticoids are often administered topically. It must be noted that glucocorticoid-induced complications may occur not only as a result of systemic treatment, but also topical application of glucocorticoids to the skin. Commonly reported cutaneous adverse effects resulting from glucocorticoid therapy include changes in facial appearance – rounded appearance of the face, redness, development of stretch marks, difficulty in wound healing, and easy bruising. It needs to be highlighted that glucocorticoids also affect metabolism, water and electrolyte balance, and bones. Therefore, in addition to dermatological disorders, they may also cause many other types of complications. As a result, a degree of caution is advised in the use of drugs of this class. In order to reduce the risk of adverse effects, glucocorticoids should be used at the smallest effective dose for the shortest possible time.

Background: Neurofibromatosis may present with different skin lesions. Disfiguring lesions on the face might be challenging for the surgeon or clinician to correct and may have adverse effects on patients' social lives, especially in young women. Objective: To present the dermabrasion technique combined with serial excisions of a deeper accompanying lesion to treat superficial facial lesions in a young neurofibromatosis patient. Methods: Dermabrasion was applied to superficial lesions on the face, and staged excision was applied to the deeper lesion located on the forehead. Results: We obtained high patient satisfaction with the result. The deep lesion was excised totally, and superficial lesions were decreased with dermabrasion. Conclusion: Dermabrasion may become a good alternative in cases of neurofibromatosis with superficial facial lesions.

The face is the feature which distinguishes a person. Facial appearance is vital for human recognition. It has certain features like forehead, skin, eyes, ears, nose, cheeks, mouth, lip, teeth etc which helps us, humans, to recognize a particular face from millions of faces even after a large span of time and despite large changes in their appearance due to ageing, expression, viewing conditions and distractions such as disfigurement of face, scars, beard or hair style. A face is not merely a set of facial features but is rather but is rather something meaningful in its form.In this paper, depending on the various facial features, a system is designed to recognize them. To reveal the outline of the face, eyes, ears, nose, teeth etc different edge detection techniques have been used. These features are extracted in the term of distance between important feature points. The feature set obtained is then normalized and are feed to artificial neural networks so as to train them for reorganization of facial images.

The inhibition of cyclin dependent kinases 4 and 6 plays a role in aromatase inhibitor resistant metastatic breast cancer. Three dual CDK4/6 inhibitors have been approved for the breast cancer treatment that, in combination with the endocrine therapy, dramatically improved the survival outcomes both in first and later line settings. The developments of the last five years in the search for new selective CDK4/6 inhibitors with increased selectivity, treatment efficacy, and reduced adverse effects are reviewed, considering the small-molecule inhibitors and proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs) approaches, mainly pointing at structure-activity relationships, selectivity against different kinases and antiproliferative activity.

AbstractAn altered facial appearance is more difficult to face, than problems related to ill-fitting denture or eating. The selection of maxillary anterior teeth for complete denture has long posed problem in clinical practice and a controversy about the best method to employ still exists. An attempt is made in the present study to clinically correlate the face form with maxillary central incisor tooth form in males and females of Davangere population. In 1914, Leon William's projected the “the form method” where he classified facial forms as square, tapering, and ovoid. Maxillary central incisors were selected according to the facial forms.Of total 100 subjects four different tooth forms and face forms were evaluated. They are: square, ovoid, square-tapered, tapered. No significant correlation existed between face form in male and females. Females exhibited greater correlation between face forms and inverted tooth form but that correlation is not sufficient to serve as a guide for selection of anterior teeth.

In facial contouring surgery, surgeons operate the facial bone to correct bone morphology and thus achieve esthetic feminine face. To evaluate the face appearance after surgery and rehearse every surgical procedure in facial contouring surgery, simulations for tissue peeling, incising and suturing on the face together with bone burring and grafting on the facial bone are required. This paper presents a method that transforms respective tissue vertices to simulate tissue peeling. The transformation is based on specified incisions and clamps as in real facial contouring surgery. This paper also uses an auxiliary structure to represent and record tissue boundary changes inside the face. The elastic, partially plastic and plastic tissue deformation and wound formation during an incision can be simulated by manipulating these boundary changes. The incised wound recorded in the auxiliary structure is also manipulated to simulate tissue generation in wound healing during a suture. This volume manipulation method is combined with the reported method for bone burring and grafting simulations so that high-quality 3D images for illustrating surgical procedures both on the face and facial bone can be achieved. Simulations of two case examples including tissue peeling, incising and suturing procedures, and three modalities of facial contouring surgery demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and system.

Bell’s palsy, also known as acute idiopathic lower motor neuron facial paralysis, is characterized by sud-den onset paralysis or weakness of the muscles to one side of the face controlled by the facial nerve. In contemporary science, administration of steroids is the treatment of choice for complete facial palsy. Cer-tain Panchakarma procedures and internal Ayurvedic medicines have been proved to be beneficial in the management of Ardita vata. The present report deals with a case of 62-year-old male patient diagnosed as Ardita vata was treated with various Panchakarma procedures like Nasya, Shirobasti, Kukkutanda Swedana, Dashmoola Ksheer Dhoom, Gandoosh and oral Ayurveda medicines. Criteria of assessment was based on the scoring of House-Brackmann Facial Nerve Grading scale. After completion of Ayurveda treatment, the patient Shown almost complete recovery without any adverse effects. This case is an evi-dence to demonstrate the effectiveness of Ayurveda treatment in case of Ardita vata (Bell’s palsy).

Abstract Lapachol (1), a natural naphthoquinone, presents several biological activities including antitumor activity, used as anticancer coadjuvant whose use was abandoned because of adverse effects. Herein, we reported the synthesis and cytotoxicity evaluation against cancer cell lines of a series of Oglycosides and glycosyl triazoles derived from lapachol. In addition to the determination of IC50, the DNA fragmentation and clonogenicity were also evaluated. The glycoside derived from D-glucose (5) was far more active than lapachol (1) and more active in tumor cell lines HL60, Jurkat, THP-1 and MDA-MB-231 than to the non-tumoral PBMC cell line, indicating an improvement in activity and selectivity as compared with lapachol (1). Compound 5 and the glycosides derived from D-galactose (14), D-N-acetylglucosamine (15) and L-fucose (16) showed good results in the DNA fragmentation and clonogenicity assays in the studies of subdiploid DNA content, indicating a pro-apoptotic potential and a good antiproliferative activity of these glycosides.

Objective: to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerance of the face aging treatment using subcutaneous radiofrequency in patients with mild, moderate e severe ptosis of the middle face. Material and methods: prospective data from patients treated with subcutaneous radiofrequency. Patients underwent two treatment session carried out by the same surgeon. The principal efficacy criterion was the assessment of depth reduction of the naso-labial fold and malar prominence’s restoration after 3 and 6 months, the evaluation of the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale by the patients and an outside procedure surgeon was the second criteria. Safety and tolerance were evaluated through observed side effects. Result: A total of 30 patients, 27 women and 3 men with a mean age of 53 years underwent subcutaneous radiofrequency procedure. Depth’s reduction of the naso-labial fold and malar prominence’s restoration was observed in the majority of all case, associated to the patient e medical satisfaction. Transitory adverse effects, commonly for cosmetic procedure e.g erythema, edema was not observed. One patient had post procedure hematoma. No serious adverse effects such as burning or scars were reported. Conclusion: This prospective pilot data confirmed that subcutaneous radiofrequency is a safe and effective in improvement in skin laxity. Patients’ satisfaction was high. Although this treatment cannot substitute surgical procedure, it might prolong the time to the first surgical facial lift. Further confirmation investigation should be performed.
