Uniform monodisperse nanospheres of tetra-kis(4-methoxylphenyl) porphynatemanganese (III) chloride [MnIII(TMOPP)Cl] of about 200 nm have been synthesized through a facile surfactant-assisted reprecipitation method at room temperature. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, infrared spectrum, ultraviolet–visible spectrum, and elemental analysis were adopted to characterize the as-prepared metalloporphyrin nanostructures. The influence factors in the reaction to the sizes and morphologies of porphyrin nanoparticles were discussed. The sizes of porphyrin nanoparticles were affected mainly by the porphyrin concentration and only monodisperse nanoshperes with high uniformity in sizes and shapes can self-assemble to form order two-dimensional superstructures.

Nanoscale LiTaO3 powders with perovskite structure were synthesized using the solvothermal technique with glycol as solvent at 240°C for 12h. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). XRD was used to elucidate room temperature structures using Rietveld refinement. The powders were pure single pervoskite phase with high crystallinity. FESEM and TEM were used to determine particle size and morphology. The average LiTaO3 grain size was estimated to be < 200nm, and TEM images indicated that LiTaO3 particles had a brick-like morphology. In addition, the effect of the temperature on the LiTaO3 power characterisitics was also detailed studied.

A simple and efficient microemulsion-based technique, which used the new Tx-100/cyclohexanol/H2O system, was developed to synthesize SrCrO4 nanowire based nanostructures, including nanowire bundles and flower-like structures at different temperature. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution TEM (HRTEM) were used to characterize the products. Studies found that the reaction temperatures and the reaction systems have great influences on the final products. Optical properties studies by UV-Vis spectra and photoluminescence (PL) spectra confirmed that the as-obtained nanowires showed distinct optical activity under UV and visible light irradiation.

Silver nanoparticles have been synthesized in 3-(aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (KH-550) solution using DMF (N, N-dimethylformamide) as both solvent and reductant at room temperature and 120°C. A characteristic surface plasmon band can be observed for the obtained silver nanoparticles from UV-vis absorption spectra, which indicate that KH-550 can serve as stabilizing agent for the formation of silver nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results show that silver nanoparticles with different sizes were obtained by simply controlling the reaction temperature.

We report the synthesis and characterization of ZnS nanostructures, which were grown by thermal evaporation of the ZnS powder at high temperature using iron network as the collection substrate. Scanning electron microscopy investigations show that the products present taper-like morphologies. Transmission electron microscopy studies indicate ZnS nanostructures are well crystallized. The formation mechanism of the novel nanostructure is discussed on the basis of the experimental results; The nanostructure is formed due to a fast growth of ZnS nanowire along [0001] and the subsequent “epitaxial” radial growth of the ZnS nanocone along the six (01-10) surfaces around the nanowire. A strong room-temperature photoluminescence in ZnS nanostructures has been demonstrated.

One of the main challenges facing materials science today is the synthesis of new biodegradable and biocompatible materials capable of improving existing ones. This work focused on the synthesis of new biomaterials from the bioconjugation of oleic acid with L-cysteine using carbodiimide. The resulting reaction leads to amide bonds between the carboxylic acid of oleic acid and the primary amine of L-cysteine. The formation of the bioconjugate was corroborated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). In these techniques, the development of new materials with marked differences with the precursors was confirmed. Furthermore, NMR has elucidated a surfactant structure, with a hydrophilic part and a hydrophobic section. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) was used to determine the critical micellar concentration (CMC) of the bioconjugate. Subsequently, light diffraction (DLS) was used to analyze the size of the resulting self-assembled structures. Finally, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was obtained, where the shape and size of the self-assembled structures were appreciated.

Metal colloids in 2-mercaptoethanol using nanoparticles (NPs) of iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), and nickel (Ni) were prepared by chemical liquid deposition method. Transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction, UV-VIS spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy with electron dispersive X-ray spectroscopy characterized the resulting colloidal dispersions. The NPs exhibited sizes with ranges from 9.8 nm for Fe, 3.7 nm for Co, and 7.2 nm for Ni. The electron diffraction shows the presence of the metals in its elemental state Fe (0), Co (0), and Ni (0) and also some compounds FeO (OH), CoCo2S4, and NiNi2S4.

Poly(dichlorophosphazene) was prepared by melt ring-opening polymerization of the hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene. Poly[bis(2-hydroxyethyl-methacrylate)-phosphazene] and poly[(2-hydroxyethyl-methacrylate)-graft-poly(lactic-acid)-phosphazene] were obtained by nucleophilic condensation reactions at different concentrations of the substituents. The properties of the synthesized copolymers were assessed by FTIR,1H-NMR and31P-NMR, thermal analysis (DSC-TGA), and electron microscopy (SEM). The copolymers have a block structure and show twoTg's below room temperature. They are stable up to a temperature of 100°C. The type of the substituents attached to the PZ backbone determines the morphology of the polymers.

Zirconia-graphene composite (ZrO2-G) has been successfully synthesized via decomposition of ZrOCl2•6H2O in a water-isopropanol system with dispersed graphene oxide (GO) utilizing Na2S as a precursor could enable the occurrence of the deposition of Zr4+ and the deoxygenation of GO at the same time. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were used to characterize the samples. It was found that graphene were fully coated with ZrO2, and the ZrO2 existing in tetragonal phase, which resulted in the formation of two-dimensional composite.
