The paper is about the largest landfill in Latvia Getlini. Waste from Riga city and surroundings are disposed here. The waste landfilling once was started in the old sand-gravel quarry, next to the Getlini bog, and no environment protection measures were taken. Currently total area of the Getlini landfill is 87 ha and 36 ha of it occupy the old dumpsite (waste hill). Contaminants from the waste with storm water leached to the over groundwater and under groundwater and contaminated it. The authors analyzed the environment protection measures and effectiveness of the environmental activities atCherepovetsiron and steel works which is situated vitally close to the specially protected natural area of international importance Darwin Nature Reserve. They show that the measures taken cover all essential issues to decrease the negative impact of the iron and steel works on the local ecosystems and human health according to the modern world practice. The measures include defining the basic pollutants and monitoring their release, modernizing manufacturing equipment to reduce contaminated wastewater discharges, air and soil pollution, safe disposal of industrial waste and diversified monitoring of the local environment. The above mentioned activities resulted in significant reduction of industrial waste, reduced water consumption and decrease in wastewater and soil pollution. After analyzing data of the independent monitoring of the environment the authors noted high efficiency of environment protection activity carried out in different years atCherepovetsiron and steel works. The results of the studies and the authors’ field research inDarwinnature resort showed improvements in the environmental conditions in the local area including improvement of the general state of the nature resort’s ecosystems. The state of the environment has basically improved, for example, in the past 5 years the air inCherepovetshas become cleaner, the pollutant content in soil and vegetation inDarwinnature resort area has also reduced.

In order to better promote the restoration and sustainable development of the natural ecological environment, it is necessary to study the wetland system as an important part of the ecosystem, put forward some common problems faced by wetland nature reserves, and propose relevant solutions based on the problems. This paper describes the relevant theoretical basis for the ecological environment protection of the wetland nature reserves, the problems faced, and the relevant solutions as reference for relevant personnel.

The increasingly serious environmental problems have become a threat to human society’s sustainable development, and the efficiency of the government to manage the environment is decreasing as well as its abilities is falling short of its desires. Therefore, it will be a trend to change environmental protection measures depend too much on the government and to introduce market mechanism and allocate environmental resources by laws of market for environment protection to develop further under socialist market economy.

By drawing on the theoretical framework of the globalisation cleavage literature, we aim to assess the existence of a social conflict on globalisation-related issues among the German population. We argue that opinion polarisation and issue salience are the key conditions of a successful and sustainable political mobilisation of citizens, and thus of the emergence of a social conflict. Accordingly, we investigate (1) the extent to which globalisation-related issues have become salient among the German population and (2) the extent to which the German population has become polarised on these issues. Our study takes into account four globalisation-related issue domains: “Immigration”, “EU”, “Economic liberalism” and “Environment”. Our analysis of the salience of these issue domains among Germans from 1989 to 2017 points to a durable increase in issue salience for the problem of “Immigration”, and this, only since the 2015 European “migrant crisis”. By contrast, the salience of “Economic liberalism”, “Europe” and “Environment” has remained very low during the studied period and only shows peaks related to critical events that last for a short time. Regarding opinion polarisation, we observe overall stable attitudes on globalisation-related issues among the German population since the 1990s. We only detect a general opinion shift towards more positive attitudes concerning immigration and environment protection measures. We conclude that the necessary conditions of a globalisation social conflict are so far not met among the German population.

The Golmud-Lhasa section of Qinghai-Tibet railway strides over the Tibet Plateau hinterland, ‘the roof of the world’, which traverse to typical ecosystem, as desert, alpine grassland, plateau alpine meadows, swamp wetland, and permafrost zone. Due to the special ecological property of the Tibet Plateau, it become the more river source of the China, even of South Asia, it plays an irreplaceable role of ecological function of the China and the South Asia. The human actions and climatic changes have contributed to the environmental becoming worse and worse. Fragile ecological environment once destroyed, it recovering is very difficult or unrecoverable. The railway construction, it inevitable involved in environmental problem, therefore, how to implement ecological environmental protection is one of the most major subjects of the railway construction. This paper analyzed the adverse effect of the ecological environment in the railway construction period and summarizes the protection measures of ecological environment that had taken in the railway construction. Given the example of the human economic development and the environment protection could be harmonious and sustainable developed in the Tibet Plateau, also show the most precious experiences for the ecological environment protection of the project construction in the plateau zone.
