Three flavonoids, spinosin (1), 6′′′-feruloyl spinosin (2) and 6′′′-sinapoyl spinosin (3) wereisolated from EtOH extract of seed of Ziziphus mauritiana. Their structures were elucidated bythe analysis of their spectroscopic data (ESI-MS,1H-NMR,13C-NMR, DEPT, HSQC và HMBC)and compared with literatures. These compounds were isolated for the first time in Vietnamfrom the seed of Ziziphus mauritiana

An antibacterial compound has been isolated from Ficus deltoidea Jack leaves. Based on spectroscopic data (IR, 1H-NMR, 13C NMR 1D and 2D and MS), the structure of this compound was identified as 3β-hydroksilup-20(29)-en, (lupeol), C30H50O. This compound showed antibacterial activities against E. coli, B. subtilis and S. aureus. The minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) against E. coli, B. subtilis and S. aureus are 150, 220 and 130 μg/mL respectively.

Synthesis of secondary alcohols compound from safrole and methyleugenol has been achieved through conversion of allyl group to alcohol. The reaction of safrole and methyleugenol with mercuric acetate in aqueous tetrahydrofuran, followed by in situ reduction of the mercurial intermediate by alkaline sodium borohydride produced secondary alcohol namely safryl alcohol (71.25%) and methyleugenil alcohol (65.56%). The structure elucidation of these products were analyzed by FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and MS.   Keywords: Secondary alcohols; safrole; methyleugenol

The aerial parts of three endemic Centaurea L. species, namely C. tomorosii Micevski, C. soskae Hayek and C. galicicae Micevski, afforded sesquiterpene lactone cnicin (1) and seven flavonoids: apigenin (2), isokaempferide (3), hispidulin (4), eupatorin (5), cirsimaritin (6), santaflavone (7) and salvigenin (8). The structures of the isolated compounds were determined by UV, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy and HR-ESI-MS spectrometry. 1H NMR spectroscopy was used as a method for quantitative analysis of sesquiterpene lactone cnicin.

Phytochemical investigations on the chloroform extract of the arial part of Orthosiphon stamineus resulted in isolation of one new prenylated compound 5,7-dimethoxy-3,4′-dihydroxy-3′,8-di-C-prenylflavanone together with four known flavonoids compounds, sinensetin, eupatorin, 5,6,7,4¢-tetramethoxyflavone and 3-hydroxy-5,6,7,4¢-tetramethoxyflavone. The structures were deduced on basis of different analytical methods such as UV, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT, COSY, HMBQ and GC-MS. The prenylated compound is reported for the first time from this plant.   Keywords: Orthosiphon stamineus, prenylated flavanone, flavonoids

Tinospora crispa Miers (Menispermaceae) is a climbing vine with stems rich in warts. The plant is called Akar Seruntum or Patawali in Malaysia and is widely used for treating skin complaints, malaria, bacterial abscess, high blood pressure and diabetes. In the present study, the stems of T. crispa were collected from the locality and succesively extracted with petroleum ether, followed by chloroform and ethanol. The insecticidal active extract (ethanol extract) was  subjected to column chromatography of silica gel eluted with a gradient mobile phase containing hexane, chloroform and ethanol. Among the chemical constituents isolated are n-tetracosyl trans-ferulate and n-octacosyl alcohol, along with three known aporphine alkaloids; N-formylnornuciferine, N-acetylnornuciferine and lysicamine. All compounds were identified by comparing their spectroscopic data (UV, IR, 1H NMR, MS) with data from corresponding values in the literature. Isolation of n-tetracosyl trans-ferulate and n-octacosyl alcohol is reported the first time for T. crispa.

A series of new spiro 1,2,4-triazoles V-IXa-j were synthesized by the reaction of appropriate amidrazones IV with cyclic ketones in the presence of p-toluene sulfonic acid as a catalyst. The structures of the synthesized compounds have been confirmed by the elemental analysis and spectroscopic data (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MS). The microbial features of the synthesized compounds were studied using well-established methods from the literature.
