Abstract Background Several technological innovations have been introduced in healthcare over the years, and their implementation proved crucial in addressing challenges of modern health. Healthcare workers have frequently been called upon to become familiar with technological innovations that pervade every aspect of their profession, changing their working schedule, habits, and daily actions. Purpose An in-depth analysis of the paths towards the acceptance and use of technology may facilitate the crafting and adoption of specific personnel policies taking into consideration definite levers, which appear to be different in relation to the age of nurses. Approach The strength of this study is the application of UTAUT model to analyse the acceptance of innovations by nurses in technology-intensive healthcare contexts. Multidimensional Item Response Theory is applied to identify the main dimensions characterizing the UTAUT model. Paths are tested through two stage regression models and validated using a SEM covariance analysis. Results The age is a moderator for the social influence: social influence, or peer opinion, matters more for young nurse. Conclusion The use of MIRT to identify the most important items for each construct of UTAUT model and an in-depth path analysis helps to identify which factors should be considered a leverage to foster nurses’ acceptance and intention to use new technologies (o technology-intensive devices). Practical implications Young nurses may benefit from the structuring of shifts with the most passionate colleagues (thus exploiting the social influence), the participation in ad hoc training courses (thus exploiting the facilitating conditions), while other nurses could benefit from policies that rely on the stressing of the perception of their expectations or the downsizing of their expectancy of the effort in using new technologies.

The flowering process has been reported to play crucial roles in improving the flavor and efficacy of fermented tea. Hippophae rhamnoides leaves containing many beneficial ingredients are a suitable plant source for tea processing. In this study, we isolated a β-glucosidase-producing fungus Eurotium amstelodami BSX001 from the fermented tea and used Hippophae rhamnoides leaves (HRL) as a substrate to explore the detailed process of bioconversion of some important functional factors. The results show that the contents of total phenolic compounds and flavonoids increased significantly after seven days, especially flavonoid aglycones (e.g., quercetin, kaempferol, and isorhamnetin). Such compounds greatly enhance the antioxidative activity of fermented products. Metabolic analysis of the standard compounds (rutin, quercetin-3-glucoside, kaempferol-3-glucoside, quercetin, isorhamnetin-3-glucoside, isorhamnetin, and kaempferol) further confirmed the effective biotransformation by E. amstelodami. Mechanisms of the bioconversion could be involved in deglycosylation, dihydroxylation, and O-methylation. Our findings expand the understanding of tea fermentation process and provide further guidance for the fermented tea industry.

Researchers are currently looking for materials that are stable, functional, aesthetic, and biocompatible without infections. Therefore, there is a great interest in obtaining a material that has a balance between aesthetic, biological, mechanical, and functional factors, which can be used as an infection control material. The addition of hydroxyapatite to alumina make highly bioactive scaffolds with mechanical strength. Biomedical applications require antibacterial properties; therefore, this idea leads to great interest in the development of new synthetic routes of ceramic biomaterials that allow the release of nanoparticles or metal ions. This investigation presents the obtention of alumina-hydroxyapatite spheres doped with silver nanoparticles with antibacterial effect against various Gram-positive and negative bacteria related to drug-resistance infections. The microstructural and spectroscopic studies demonstrate that the spheres exhibit a homogeneous structure and crystal hydroxyapatite and silver nanoparticles are observed on the surface. The antimicrobial susceptibility was verified with the agar diffusion and turbidimetry methods in Gram-negative ( Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram-positive ( Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) bacteria. All bacteria used were susceptible to the alumina-hydroxyapatite-silver spheres even at lower silver concentration. The composites have a higher possibility for medical applications focused on the control of drug-resistance microorganisms.
