ABSTRAK Latar belakang: Penelitian yang dilaksanakan di STIKes Jendral Achmad Yani Bandung tahun 2010 mengindikasikan mahasiswa keperawatan masih mengalami masalah dalam proses belajar mengajar ketika materi yang diberikan berbahasa Inggris. Khususnya textbook,  artikel keperawatan dan materi lain yang berbahasa Inggris, masih dianggap sulit untuk dimengerti oleh sebagaian besar mahasiswa. Walaupun  motivasi mahasiwa cukup tinggi serta sikap mereka sangat mendukung terhadap pembelajaran dan penggunaan bahasa Inggris, nyatanya responden mendapatkan skor rendah dalam test kemampuan membaca text keperawatan berbahasa Inggris. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan lebih lanjut motivasi dan sikap mahasiswa keperawatan terhadap bahasa Inggris. Metode: Data dikumpulkan dengan melakukan test kemampuan berbahasa Inggris berstandar internasional, serta memberikan kuisioner yang mengukur motivasi dan sikap terhadap bahasa Inggris, kepada mahasiswa keperawatan tingkat 3 (tiga) semester 6, Programs Studi Ilmu Keperawatan S1 Stikes Jenderal Achmad Yani Cimahi. Hasil: Hasil penelitian didapatkan walaupun responden mendapatkan skor yang rendah dalam test kemampuan berbahasa Inggris, mereka memiliki motivasi tinggi dan  sikap yang mendukung terhadap bahasa  Inggris. Diskusi: Hal ini menggambarkan dibutuhkan metoda yang lebih inovatif dan efektif dalam pembelajaran bahasa  Inggris dengan tujuan adanya peningkatan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris  mahasiswa keperawatan, khususnya di STIKes Jenderal Achmad Yani Cimahi.   Kata kunci : kemampuan berbahasa Inggris, motivasi, sikap   ABSTRACT Introduction: A research conducted at STIKes Jenderal Achmad Yani Cimahi in 2010 indicated how students were still experiencing problems with their study where English is mediatory language. In particular, English textbooks, articles, and other resources were considered by the majority of the participants to be difficult to process. Despite their high motivation and attitude towards learning and using English, the participants scored low in their readability tests. Objective: This study continues to investigate factors that influence their ability in using English. It focuses on the factor of the language mastery in relations to the learner’s motivation and attitude towards English. Method: The descriptive investigation was conducted with participants from third year students of STIKes Jenderal Ahmad Yani, Cimahi by measuring their English skills with an international standardized English test and giving questionnaires on their attitude and motivation towards the importance of English. Result: The results showed that despite the low scores in the mastery of the language their high motivation and attitude also exhibited a need to have an approach different from the current methods to aid with their English skills enhancement, especially methods in their learning process. Discussion: Thus, insight gained may prove critical in building a suitable English learning program in the institute or other school with similar conditions. This paper describes a study exploring the effect of topical knowledge on writing performance of EFL students. A total of 158 accounting students of Islamic Azad University of Hamedan Branch in two levels of proficiency, intermediate and advanced, participated in this study. They were voluntarily participated in an English Learning Program provided by Islamic Azad University. At the end of the program, each student was required to write two essays: one that requires general knowledge of students about their opinion on continuing their education in university and the other that requires them to use their specific knowledge and write about preparing of balance sheet in accounting. After the results were manifested, writing on the specific topic yielded lower scores on accuracy, poor organization, and weak idea development and concluding paragraph. In this research there was an interview with students to figure out about their opinion of these two prompts. 24 students participated in this interview who were all agree that the prompt that required them to use specific knowledge of their major was much more challenging than the general prompt. This research results show the importance of preparing and developing appropriate prompts for EFL writing tests.

This study is to reveal the gap between the English language communicative competence required by students of the hospitality department and English learning program provided at state of Vocational High School 1 Tasikmalaya, Indonesia, drawing through qualitative evaluation approach, including semi-structured interviews and observations. It explores how learning needs is implemented in teaching-learning process and the respondents description, what they saw and what they felt. Findings show inconsistency between learning needs in enrichment students English communicative competence and teaching-learning process. This prompts a re-instructional design of English learning for hospitality specific purposes program at this department currently. It provides to support of graduating required at hospitality industry workplace. Lead of recommendations, in terms of both the instructional design including materials development, teaching method usage and the professional development of ESP teachers, to address an understanding of the gap identified, so that students will enable to communicate more effectively with the English, in such contexts graduates can hire at the hospitality industry workplace.Keywords: learning needs, pre-vocational English field, authentic materials and teaching methods

In this article the author will try to evaluate the English learning program at one of the English First (EF) English language institutions in Bandar Lampung. The author will not evaluate all aspects of educational evaluation, but only evaluate a few aspects, such as curriculum (subject matter), methods of learning and teaching, assessment techniques (learning evaluation), and learning media. The conclusions in this study: 1) curriculum (subject matter), in terms of curriculum (learning material) implemented through the lesson plan is good because EF has a syllabus that is suitable for the students need, 2) methods of learning and teaching, in terms of methods in the process learning English at EF has already varied greatly, 3) evaluation of learning, in terms of evaluating English learning at EF has been very good and in accordance with the learning objectives to be achieved, and finally 4) learning media, in terms of what media are used in the learning process has also varied greatly.

ABSTRAKTujuan: Mengetahui efektifitas anscotic dengan english learning program sebagai edukasi pencegahan skoliosis pada anak usia dini. Metode penelitian: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan subjek penelitian sejumlah sepuluh santri dalam rentang usia 6-10 tahun di pondok pesantren patisah surakarta. Subjek diberikan instruksi gerakan anscotic menggunakan bahasa inggris yang kemudian diikuti oleh seluruh subjek. Anscotic dilakukan sebanyak tiga kali dengan evaluasi pada akhir perlakuan. Hasil: Subjek mengetahui cara-cara pencegahan skoliosis dan mampu menghafal berbagai macam kata dalam bahasa inggris melalui intruksi anscotic yang diberikan. Kesimpulan: Anscotic (Anti-Scoliosis Gymnastic) dengan English Learning Program merupakan program yang tepat untuk mencegah scoliosis sekaligus metode pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang menyenangkan.Kata Kunci: Anscotic, Skoliosis, English Learning Program.

Thailand is beginning to emphasize the teaching of elementary, junior and senior high students to speak English. One of the key problems has been the availability of an effective English learning program. This research study evaluated the effects of a mobile English speaking software app (Qooco Kids English) for two schools using mobile devices in which 95% of the phone s were Android, The research questions’ focus was on English speaking ability. Qooco Kids English is an online program delivered via a mobile device. The Qooco Kids English App was used to teach children to speak English fluently by providing English audio models and frequent speaking practice with immediate actionable feedback on the English speaking of the students. Qooco Kids English has twelve instant feedback lesson modules with gamified, progressive lessons which result in faster and more engaging learning lessons. Through a pre post experimental design, the researchers studied the speaking ability of 192 grade 5 and grade 6 students in Chiang Rai Municipality School 6 and 89 Junior and senior high students in Chiang Rai Municipality School 7 for one semester in Thailand. Specifically, effects on students' English speaking ability after one semester were measured through the iTest pre and post-tests. The significant statistical findings indicated that the Qooco software English speaking app increases student achievement in both spoken and written English for Grades 5 and 6 as well as junior and senior high school students.
