AbstractIntroductionMother to child transmission (MTCT) of HIV is the major source of HIV infection among children under the age of 15 years. Prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) service has been an important strategy in preventing HIV infections in infants. However, improving PMTCT service uptake and continuum of care still remains a significant impediment in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. The aim of this study was to explore factors that may hinder and promote PMTCT service utilization among HIV positive women.MethodsPhenomenological study design was used. Three focus group discussions (FGDs) with HIV positive women and five in-depth interviews with health care workers were conducted from the selected health institutions. Data analysis was conducted using thematic content analysis. ATLAS/ti version 7.5.16 software was used to assist in coding and analysis of the qualitative data.ResultsThe findings of the study revealed that there are a range of factors that influence HIV positive women on PMTCT service utilization. Stigma, discrimination, limited knowledge on HIV, lack of partner and family support, and not getting friendly service from health facility were factors that might hinder PMTCT service utilization. The experiences of HIV positive mothers revealed that continuous partner support, previous history of getting HIV free child, good health worker support, and advice by mother support group were factors that promote utilization of PMTCT service.ConclusionsStrengthening community awareness on HIV, engaging male involvement in PMTCT care and getting friendly service were the key determinants for the better PMTCT service utilization.

This qualitative study is an examination of the attitudes of national religious Jewish Israeli mothers toward their daughters’ singlehood. The daughters were in their mid to late twenties, when the religious and social expectation is that they be married. The study is designed to explore the main issues faced by the mothers, including perceived difficulties and advantages of their daughters' unmarried status. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 middle-class mothers, whose responses underwent content analysis and revealed a combination of traditional ideas with modern, liberal, and feminist values: internal and external concerns on behalf of the mothers, together with listing advantages and mothers supporting the daughters not to rush into marriage. The findings reveal that confronting social expectations means coping with the old norms while being aware of new possibilities and opportunities. Limitations of the study are discussed.

INTRODUCTION: Domestic violence is a continual stressor that motivates its victim to react. The way a woman deals with her husband’s violence determine the consequence of the violent relationship. In the present study, a qualitative approach was employed to investigate women’s reactions to and ways of coping with domestic violence.

METHOD: Semi-structured interviews were conducted in 2014 with 18 women who experienced domestic violence in an attempt to explain how women deal with domestic violence. After the interviews were transcribed word by word, they were explored in the form of meaningful units and encoded as subcategories and categories through inductive content analysis. The reliability and validity of the interviews were measured by an external supervisor.

RESULTS: Two categories of reaction and coping were identified through content analysis: passive and non-normative measures and active measures. Passive and non-normative measures included the subcategories of harmful behaviors, retaliation, tolerance, and silence. Active measures included seeking help and advice, legal measures, leaving the spouse, positive and health promoting measures.

CONCLUSION: In the present study, ways of coping with a husband’s violence among women experiencing domestic violence were divided into two categories: passive and non-normative measures and active measures. These categories confirmed the models of coping with stress in previous studies. Adopting an appropriate approach to dealing with domestic violence is affected by a woman’s capacity and beliefs, the dominant culture, intensity of the violence, available social and legal supports, and effectiveness of evaluation measures. To generalize service provision to victimized women, the type of coping and the reason for adopting the chosen approach need to be taken into account.

The purpose of this study is to examine how selected stories, which are written in Turkish by local or foreign authors for preschoolers, deal with honesty. In this basic interpretive qualitative study, data were collected through document analysis and analyzed through content analysis. Analyzed documents are twenty-one picture books, which written in Turkish for preschoolers published between 2004 and 2015, nine stories about honesty published online by four Turkish Provincial Directorates of National Education and one story about honesty published online by the Center for Values Education. The software NVivo 11 was used to conduct computer-assisted data analysis. The results of this study demonstrate that most of the analyzed texts use “dishonesty and its negative consequences” more than “honesty and its positive outcomes” to promote honesty.
