The freezing point depression (FPD) of uvaia pulp with and without additives - 10, 16, 22 and 28% of maltodextrin (MD), was measured using a simple apparatus consisting of two major sections: a freezing vessel and a data acquisition system. The thermal conductivity of the pulps was also investigated as a function of the frozen water fraction and temperature using a coaxial dual-cylinder apparatus. Above the initial freezing point, thermal conductivity fitted the polynomial equations well. Below the freezing point, thermal conductivity was strongly affected by both the frozen water fraction and the temperature. Simple equations in terms of the frozen water fraction and temperature could be fitted to the experimental data for freezing point depression and thermal conductivity.

Abstract In this study, we investigated the freezing point depression of liquids in nanostructures using a new thermomechanical method. First, we experimentally determined the freezing points of water, cyclohexane, and a certain organic material (Chem.A) in nanoscale structures using DSC measurements. Thereafter, we formulated a new equation by improving the Gibbs–Thomson equation, which is the conventional formula for representing the freezing point depression of a liquid in nanostructures. We introduced a new term in this new equation to represent the increase in the kinetic energy of the liquid molecule as a result of collision between the liquid molecules and nanostructure walls. Subsequently, we evaluated the solid–liquid interface free energy of sublimation materials by fitting the theoretical freezing point derived from the new equation to experimental data. In this study, we succeeded in reproducing the experimental data of freezing point depression using the proposed equation. In particular, the freezing points of cyclohexane and Chem.A in the nanostructure were better fitted by this new equation at 10 nm or more compared with the conventional equation. Our results show that the interaction between the wall of the nanostructure and liquid molecules affects freezing point depression.

A creep laboratory for variable-load and variable-temperature testing in uniaxial tension has been established at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. The philosophy behind the specification and design of the equipment is described, considerable attention having been paid to accurate control of the test environment. The method of processing experimental data, obtained with a data acquisition system, is outlined.

A full-scale heat transfer test facility has been designed and built for the determination of effective thermal conductivity of pebble bed, which is a macroscopic parameter to characterize the heat transfer capacity of the core in the High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor. The data acquisition system is developed to collect, display and record the temperature data in monitoring points. Two alternative software systems are designed to obtain better performance. To enhance precision of the measurement system, several aspects are analyzed and optimized in the implementation of LabVIEW. The error of the hardware system is analyzed, which is within the acceptable range. The data acquisition system can meet the practical demands of temperature acquisition in the range of thermal analysis.

In laboratory works, the error in measurement, reading the measurring devices, similarity of experimental data and lack of understanding of practicum materials are often found. These will lead to the inacurracy and invalid in data obtanined. As an alternative solution, application of fuzzy logic to the data acquisition system using a web server can used. This research focuses on the design of data acquisition systems with the target of reducing the error rate in measuring experimental data on the laboratory. Data measurement on laboratory practice module is done by taking the analog data resulted from the measurement. Furthermore, the data are converted into digital data via arduino and stored on the server. To get valid data, the server will process the data by using fuzzy logic method. The valid data are integrated into a web server so that it can be accessed as needed. The results showed that the data acquisition system based on fuzzy logic is able to provide recommendation of measurement result on the lab works based on the degree value of membership and truth value. Fuzzy logic will select the measured data with a maximum error percentage of 5% and select the measurement result which has minimum error rate.

Abstract The method of Kuhn and coworkers for the determination of crosslink density for swelled cured rubber was applied to unfilled peroxide- and sulfur-cured samples. Comparison with other methods confirms the new method. Experimental data for a number of filled samples is presented together with the mesh size of the network determined by the method of Kuhn.

В данной работе приведены некоторые результаты разработки, создания и использования регистрирующих систем для длиннобазовых лазерных деформографов и других измерительных приборов, созданных на его основе. В качестве источника излучения используется частотностабилизированный лазер с длиной волны 633 нм. Приведено описание регистрирующей системы лазерного деформографа с использованием квадратурных сигналов, позволяющей достигать высокой чувствительности (L/L 1010), способной регистрировать колебания высокой частоты (до 4 кГц), имеющей высокую надежность. Представлены результаты испытаний данной системы и ее работы в составе измерительного комплекса.This article gives a brief overview of results achieved in process of design, developing and using of data acquisition systems for LSM (longbase strainmeters) and other devices based on laser interferometers. А frequencystabilized 633 nm laser is used as a light source. The data acquisition system of homodyne quadrature LSM was described, and main characteristics of the instrument are: high sensivity (L/L 1010), high sample rate (up to 4 kHz), high reliability. An examination has been made of some of the extensive experimental data obtained by Bouyoucos and his associates on the freezing-point depression of soil solution at varying moisture contents, examined in situ.These workers find that the soil solution in quartz sand and extreme types of sandy soil obeys approximately the same law as dilute solutions—the freezing-point depression varying as the concentration, or in the present case, inversely as the moisture content. In other wordswhere K is a constant, and Dn is the freezing-point depression, at a moisture content of Mn. Soils do not obey this law, the freezing-point depression rapidly increasing as the moisture content decreases.
