The use of steel fibre-reinforced concrete is becoming gradually widespread in the engineering design of buildings. Typical cases include concrete foundations or floors. The actual design approach is often different. The proposal significantly encompasses the knowledge and range of the material properties of steel fibre-reinforced concrete. This article presents a comprehensive research programme, which has been focused on extensive laboratory testing, in situ testing and advanced numerical modelling using computing models and nonlinear models of concrete. It aims at a comprehensive description of the material properties of concrete, according to the degree of reinforcement, using 8 types of laboratory tests for description. In total, over 74 specified laboratory tests and four slab tests in situ are carried out. Selected evaluated material properties are also provided for the regression curve according to the degree of reinforcement, 0 to 3%. Subsequently, the detailed description of steel fibre is used in advanced modelling of tests of concrete slabs in situ. Numerical models simulate the behaviour of the steel fibre-reinforced concrete base structure in the interaction with the subsoil, where the objective was to verify the total carrying capacity of the slab structure.

The paper deals with the determination of the modulus of elasticity in tension for cementitious composites and comparing these values with the values of modulus in compression. It describes several methods, which are usually used for determination of modulus of elasticity of concrete and fibre reinforced concrete. In the experimental program modulus of elasticity in compression and tension of various types of concrete and fibre reinforced concrete were compared. The classic test with prismatic specimens was used for determination of the modulus in compression; a new arrangement of uniaxial tension test of cementitious composites was used for determination of the modulus of elasticity in tension.

This paper deals with an evaluation of long-term experimental work carried out in cooperation with concrete suppliers and a specific company (named Sobriety). The key part of this work is focused on the experimental determination of secant modulus of elasticity and Poisson's Ratio of special concrete (self-compacting concrete, steel fibre reinforced concrete, polymer fibre reinforced concrete, specific high-strength concrete). Two different real-time approaches were used to detect modulus of elasticity. In parallel, both approaches - the (European) standard approach and the DIC (2D DIC; 3D DIC with varying lengths in the vertical direction) - were applied.

The paper deals with an investigation of tensile properties of concrete and fibre reinforced concrete using the test in uniaxial tension. This arrangement is technically more difficult compared to the commonly used bending test, but allows easier determination of strength-deformation parameters of material. The advantage of the test is the possibility of direct analysis of the post-peak part of the stress-strain diagram in tension. The article describes the recommended test arrangement and analyzes methodology of loading. Attention is focused on the critical phase of the loading process and subsequent evaluation of results. In the experimental research was compared strength and corresponding strain of specific fibre reinforced concrete, obtained in three-point and four-point bending test, and the uniaxial tension test. The results of this comparative study are presented in the conclusion.
