The article is focused on the evaluation of economic differentiation of subjects on particular processing stages within the wheat commodity chain in the Czech Republic with regard to agro-food market development in the last years. The analysis is based on the statement that better economic results of businesses can be achieved not only by successful business strategy or quality management and employees but also by business ability to advance its own interests and to influence market conditions, such as setting higher prices, pressure on lower input prices, better position for negotiations with business partners etc. The Spider Analysis was used for evaluation. The results of analysis have proved worsening of economic position of the second stage of processing (bakeries) in comparison with the first stage of processing (mills) within the commodity chain in the last time, especially as a result of increasing market power of retail. It was also confirmed that decisive subjects in milling industry become bigger mills with joining to raw commodity supplier and subsequent processing stages.

Health trends and digital technologies are of great significance for the health and wellness food market and its development in the future. This study examines whether health trends, digital technology, and market concentration influence health and wellness food consumption in the Asian market. Our analysis uses a panel dataset covering 14 Asian economies from the period 2006–2020 and a panel quantile regression technique with non-additive fixed effects. The results reveal that health trends and digital technology have positive and significant impacts on health and wellness food consumption, whereas the concentration of distribution channels has a negative and significant impact. These results also offer insights into each type of health and wellness food consumption, thereby contributing to the health and wellness food market development. Finally, this study suggests the health and wellness food business development through a consumer-driven open innovation strategy.

The method of drying maize for grain has been recently employed on a large scale in the Czech Republic not only thanks to new maize hybrids but also thanks to the existence of new models of drying plants. One of the new post-harvest lines is a plant in Lipoltice (mobile dryer installed in 2010, storage base in 2012) where basic operational measurements were made of the energy intensiveness of drying and operating parameters of the maize dryer were evaluated. The process of maize drying had two stages, i.e. pre-drying from the initial average grain humidity of 28.55% to 19.6% in the first stage, and the additional drying from 16.7% to a final storage grain humidity of 13.7%. Mean volumes of natural gas consumed per 1 t% for drying in the first and second stage amounted to 1.275 m3 and 1.56 m3, respectively. The total mean consumption of electric energy per 1 t% was calculated to be 1.372 kWh for the given configuration of the post-harvest line.

The article deals with analysis of the current situation on the real estate market in the Czech Republic. Software EVAL, which continually collects, examines and evaluates advertised quotations of real estates, was used for mapping and evaluation of the real estate market development. The article provides professional public with detailed view on the time progress of quotations and tenancy of flat units in dependence on the significant parameters of properties and a locality.

The paper presents the results of research aimed at the analysis of the viability of agricultural enterprises which farm in less favoured areas and under the environmental restrictions pertaining to protected landscape areas. The target objects of the research were farmers taking care of mountain grasslands (meadows and grazing lands) in two protected landscape areas of the Czech Republic – the Beskyds and White Carpathians. The results are based on the sample survey carried out in 2006 and 2007. The first stage of the survey was devoted to the quality of life and business of farmers. The second stage of the survey concerned the financial condition of the farming businesses. Two statistical methods (analysis of variance, logistic regression) and the financial analysis method were used as analytic tools. The agricultural enterprises farming under environmental restrictions perceive their farming activities as a deal and mission. Farmers also accept restrictions while using the current subsidies. Compared to the farms outside the protected landscape areas, the farms in both protected land areas showed a higher profitability but a lower business activity. The analysis found out that the adverse age structure of farmers is a very important risk factor for rural development.

In the last decade, the character of agro-food chains functioning has changed significantly. Globalisation elements in the food processing and distribution are changing conditions in agro-food sector and influencing also agrarian markets. Due to higher food finalisation and market force of processing and distribution stages in the agribusiness commodity vertical, farm value share in the final food price has decreased. Increasing competition makes agribusiness firms  look for possibilities to strengthen their competitiveness, which is increasingly determined by the ability to develop successful partnerships within commodity verticals, i.e. vertical integration, eventually co-ordination, enforces. In this study, potential benefits and risks of these forms of vertical interconnection are reviewed with respect on specific market and production characteristics of agro-food chains. The problem is presented on the example of the commodity chain of bakery and pasta production in the Czech Republic. At the end of the paper, main arguments for the interconnection of particular stages of this vertical are derived, especially between mills and bakeries.
