Seaweeds contain many valuable compounds that can be used in the food industry. Carrageenan is a polysaccharide which has been extracted from seaweed for centuries and is used as a texturizer in food and non-food products. However, seaweeds contain compounds other than carrageenan, such as proteins, which could also be extracted. This extraction should be done without compromising the industrial scale carrageenan extraction yield and quality. This study aimed at up-stream protein extraction from red seaweed Eucheuma denticulatum by using of an optimized enzyme-assisted extraction, including of an aqueous/enzymatic treatment followed by alkaline extraction, and then the commercial carrageenan extraction. The protein extraction efficiency of four enzymes was evaluated including Celluclast® 1.5L, Shearzyme® 500 L, Alcalase® 2.4 L FG and Viscozyme® L at a concentration of 0.0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4% (w/w). To avoid detrimental effects on carrageenan, all the experiments were performed at pH 7 at room temperature. The results showed that 0.2% w/w Alcalase® or Viscozyme® added individually achieved the highest protein extraction efficiencies (59 and 48%, respectively) at pH 7 and room temperature (p < 0.05). Determination of the most common carrageenan quality parameters indicated that using any of these enzymes had no negative effect on the carrageenan yield and quality.

Forensic Document Examiners (FDEs) examine the physical morphology and performance attributes of a line trace when comparing questioned to specimen handwriting samples for the purpose of determining authorship. Along with spatial features, the elements of execution of the handwriting are thought to provide information as to whether or not a questioned sample is the product of a disguise or simulation process. Line features such as tremor, pen-lifts, blunt beginning and terminating strokes, indicators of relative speed, splicing and touch ups, are subjectively assessed and used in comparisons by FDEs and can contribute to the formation of an opinion as to the validity of a questioned sample of handwriting or signatures. In spite of the routine use of features such as these, there is little information available regarding the relative frequency of occurrence of these features in populations of disguised and simulated samples when compared to a large population of a single individual’s signature. This study describes a survey of the occurrence of these features in 46 disguised signatures, 620 simulated signatures (produced by 31 different amateur forgers) and 177 genuine signatures. It was found that the presence of splices and touch-ups were particularly good predictors of the simulation process and that all line quality parameters were potentially useful contributors in the determination of the authenticity of questioned signatures. An experiment was conducted at Horticultural Research Centre, SVP University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut (UP) during Rabi season of 2018-19 to assess the impact of different INM doses on yield and quality parameters of garlic. A total of ten treatments consisting of combinations of inorganic fertilizers, organic fertilizers and bio-fertilizers like T1- (Control), T2RDF (100:50:50 kg NPK ha-1), T3-RDF + 20 kg sulphur + FYM 20 ton ha-1, T4- RDF + 20 kg sulphur + VC 4 ton ha-1, T5- 75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + 5 ton FYM ha-1+ PSB 5 kg ha-1, T6-75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + 2 ton VC + Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1, T7- 75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM 3 ton + VC 1 ton+ PSB 5 kg + Azotobacter 5kg ha-1, T8- 50% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM 5 ton + VC2 ton + PSB 5 kg ha-1, T9- 50% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM5 ton + VC 2 ton+ Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1and T10- 50% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM 5 ton + VC2 ton + PSB 5 kg + Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1 were used in Randomized Block Design and replicated thrice. Out of these an application of T7 (75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM3 ton + VC 1 ton ha-1 + PSB 5 kg + Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1) was found to be significantly superior in term of yield and attributing parameters of garlic.

The regional agroecological conditions, specific to the Transylvanian Plain, are favorable to soybean crops, but microclimate changes related to global warming have imposed the need for agrotechnical adaptive measures in order to maintain the level of soybean yield. In this study, we consider the effect of two soil tillage systems, the seeding rate, as well as the fertilizer dosage and time of application on the yield and quality of soybean crops. A multifactorial experiment was carried out through the A × B × C × D − R: 3 × 2 × 3 × 3 − 2 formula, where A represents the year (a1, 2017; a2, 2018; and a3, 2019); B represents the soil tillage system (b1, conventional tillage with mouldboard plough; b2, reduced tillage with chisel cultivator); C represents the fertilizer variants (c1, unfertilized; c2, one single rate of fertilization: 40 kg ha−1 of nitrogen + 40 kg ha−1 of phosphorus; and c3, two rates of fertilization: 40 kg ha−1 of nitrogen + 40 kg ha−1 of phosphorus (at sowing) + 46 kg ha−1 of nitrogen at V3 stage); D represents the seeding rate (1 = 45 germinating grains (gg) m−2; d2 = 55 gg m−2; and d3 = 65 gg m−2); and R represents the replicates (r1 = the first and r2 = the second). Tillage had no effect, the climate specific of the years and fertilization affected the yield and the quality parameters. Regarding the soybean yield, it reacted favorably to a higher seeding rate (55–65 gg m−2) and two rates of fertilization. The qualitative characteristics of soybeans are affected by the fertilization rates applied to the crop, which influence the protein and fiber content in the soybean grains. Higher values of protein content were recorded with a reduced tillage system, i.e., 38.90 g kg−1 DM in the variant with one single rate of fertilization at a seeding rate of 45 gg per m−2 and 38.72 g kg−1 DM in the variant with two fertilizations at a seeding rate of 65 gg m−2.

The production of cellulose fibres by wet fibres spinning requires a careful monitoring of the spinning bath and especially the spinning solution in terms of product control and for quality assurance purposes. The chemical composition as well as the ripening of the spinning solution are of major importance for maintaining a constant product quality. The conventional determination of the quality parameters of the viscose spinning solution are rather time- and labour-intensive due to the fact that several independent analytical procedures are involved which score low in time efficiency themselves. Briefly, the complete characterisation of the spinning solution requires an iodometric titration of the cellulose xanthogenate (γ-number), an acidimetric titration of the sodium hydroxide (NaOH) content, a UV-VIS spectroscopic determination of the trithiocarbonate (TTC) content and a time-consuming gravimetric cellulose content determination. Sometimes, also, a colloid chemical determination of the degree of ripening (Hottenroth number) is performed in the plant control laboratory. With this work, an approach will be demonstrated, which enables the substitution of these numerous analytical procedures by a single and time-efficient method—a VIS-NIR spectroscopic technique. Therefore, it is possible to determine the parameters: NaOH, TTC, cellulose xanthogenate content and the cellulose content of the viscose spinning solution simultaneously with a reasonable precision within a few minutes.
