Changes in the mucous membrane of the body of the uterus, accompanying cancer of the vaginal part and cervix, drew special attention after the work of Abel (see No. I), which appeared in 1888. The author studied the mucous membrane of the body of the uterus, taken from extirpated cases of 6 uterus for carcinoma portionis and in 1 case for carcinoma cervicis. "In all cases, the mucous membrane is dull," says the author (p. 279, 1. p.), To a high degree of alteration, while the mucous membrane of the cervix is ​​relatively insignificantly diseased. " These changes, as can be seen from the description of each individual case, concern both the gland and the intermediate tissue, and the first in all cases were multiplied and represented corkscrew gyrus; some of them were enlarged or contained ectases of the lateral walls and processes protruding into the lumen of the gland. Changes in the intermediate tissue in cases 1, 2 and 4 consisted in the multiplication of cells in deep layers, and here they had a short-spindle-shaped shape, small size and went in trains in different directions; in the surface layers, they were more or less round, much larger in size and resembled epitheloid cells. In addition, a nested infiltration with small, round cells (lymphoid cells?) Met in places. In the remaining 4 cases, the changes in the intermediate tissue, according to the author's description, were the same as usually in chronic inflammation (cases 5, 6 and 7) or almost absent (case 3). On the basis of these studies, the author comes to the conclusion that changes in the mucous membrane of the body of the uterus in cancer of the vaginal part and cervix have the character of sarcomatous degeneration, which in observed 1, 2 and 4-m, already reached a rather high degree of 4, in the rest, although it did not appear as sharp as especially in the first case, but nevertheless, these changes, according to the author, cannot be considered as inflammatory, but should be taken only as a more weak degree of the same sarcomatous degeneration, by analogy with the first.

Abstract Group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) are novel lymphocytes discovered in 2010. Unlike T or B cells, ILC2s are activated nonspecifically by environmental factors and produce various cytokines, thus playing a role in tissue homeostasis, diseases including allergic diseases, and parasite elimination. ILC2s were first reported as cells abundantly present in fat-associated lymphoid clusters in adipose tissue. However, subsequent studies revealed their presence in various tissues throughout the body, acting as key players in tissue-specific diseases. Recent histologic analyses revealed that ILC2s are concentrated in specific regions in tissues, such as the lamina propria and perivascular regions, with their function being controlled by the surrounding cells, such as epithelial cells and other immune cells, via cytokine and lipid production or by cell–cell interactions through surface molecules. Especially, some stromal cells are identified as the niche cells for ILC2s, both in the steady state and under inflammatory conditions, through the production of IL-33 or extracellular-matrix factors. Additionally, peripheral neurons reportedly co-localize with ILC2s and alter their function directly through neurotransmitters. These findings suggest that the different localizations or different cell–cell interactions might affect the function of ILC2s. Furthermore, generally, ILC2s are thought to be tissue-resident cells; however, they occasionally migrate to other tissues and perform a new role; this supports the importance of the microenvironment for their function. We summarize here the current understanding of how the microenvironment controls ILC2 localization and function with the aim of promoting the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

Abstract Low-grade B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue involving the kidney is rare. We report a series of 3 cases. The first case occurred in an 83-year-old woman who presented with back pain. The second case was a 53-year-old man with a history of sarcoidosis who was found, in the course of evaluation of sarcoidosis, to have a right renal mass. The third case occurred in a 72-year-old man who had a history of periorbital mucosa–associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma and had been treated with surgery and radiation 1 year prior to this presentation. Histologically, all 3 patients showed infiltrate of uniform small-to-medium–sized lymphocytes with irregular nuclear contours and abundant cytoplasm resembling centrocytes or monocytoid lymphoid cells. The first patient received chemotherapy without complications. The second patient underwent a partial nephrectomy and was asymptomatic at the subsequent follow-up. The third patient developed a pulmonary embolism following nephrectomy, and further follow-up is not available.

Infestation of any dead or necrotic tissues by the larvae of flies (maggots) is myiasis. This form of habitation is not restricted to any particular tissues in the body and can occur anywhere. However, myiasis at the surgical stoma site is very rare. We present a 55-year-old woman diagnosed with metastatic carcinoma of the oesophagus who underwent feeding gastrostomy (FG). The patient later presented with worms at the FG site. We removed the FG tube, cleared all the maggots, thoroughly cleaned the wound and placed a new FG tube. Although its occurrences have been reported enough in medical history, there are only two documented cases of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy stoma site myiasis. Hence, we present the first case in the literature of cutaneous myiasis around an FG stoma site.

The Shroud of Turin, a linen cloth with but a faint image, continues to capture the interest of many people of diverse beliefs. Although the measured age of the cloth is relatively recent, other scientific findings indicate an earlier provenance. Any firm conclusions regarding the cloth's history remain premature. No satisfactory explanation has been found as yet for how the image on the cloth was produced structurally or stylistically. Iconographic evidence suggests that the image was the source of facial peculiarities found in early works of religious art. The body image bears a striking yet preternatural correlation with Scriptural accounts of wounds. Curiously, the image on the cloth functions as a photographic negative, exhibiting a high degree of resolution, as if the original were produced in pixels. Despite serious efforts to discover some artistic origin md medium, scientific evidence points in the direction that it was not produced by hands. If it is tme that the medium is the message, as Marshall McLuhan wrote, then the Turin Shroud may be a parable for the modern age.

The author has long noted that the first months of pregnancy are characterized by a peculiar mobility of the cervix in relation to the body, so that the portio vaginalis can move sideways, forward and backward without the participation of the uterine body. In this case, one must beware of confusion with cases where the imaginary mobility may depend on the accidental mobility of the swollen mucous membrane covering the portio.


The mathematical theory of small elastic deformations has been developed to a high degree of sophistication on certain fundamental assumptions regarding the stress-strain relationships which are obeyed by the materials considered. The relationships taken are, in effect, a generalization of Hooke’s law— ut tensio, sic vis . The justification for these assumptions lies in the widespread agreement of experiment with the predictions of the theory and in the interpretation of the elastic behaviour of the materials in terms of their known structure. The same factors have contributed to our appreciation of the limitations of these assumptions. The principal problems, which the theory seeks to solve, are the determination of the deformation which a body undergoes and the distribution of stresses in it, when certain forces are applied to it, and when certain points of the body are subjected to specified displacements. These problems are always dealt with on the assumption that the generalization of Hooke’s law is obeyed by the material of the body and that the deformation is small, i.e. the change of length, in any linear element in the material, is small compared with the length of the element in the undeformed state. Apart from the fact that the generalization of Hooke’s law is obeyed accurately by a very wide range of materials, under a considerable variety of stress and strain conditions, it has the further advantage that it leads to a mathematically tractable theory.

Introduction. Angiosarcoma is a rare cancer of the inner lining of blood vessels and can arise anywhere in the body, most commonly presenting as cutaneous disease in elderly patient, involving head and neck (H&N), especially the scalp. Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) is one of the available treatments in patients with advanced or metastatic disease. Common toxicities are myelosuppression, palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia, nausea, and stomatitis. Regarding PLD-related pulmonary fibrosis in an uncommon toxicity, there are few cases reported in literature. None of these occurred in angiosarcoma.Methods. This is a case report describing an elderly patient treated with PLD for advanced H&N cutaneous angiosarcoma who developed G5 pulmonary toxicity after the second PLD administration.Results. According to our data and patient clinical outcome, we believe that she passed away from fatal PLD-induced pulmonary fibrosis. This is the first case of fatal interstitial pneumonitis in a 77-year-old woman treated with PLD for angiosarcoma. The case has been reported for its rarity.Conclusions. Pathophysiology of this phenomenon is still unclear and more studies are necessary to understand the true incidence of pulmonary toxicities in patients in treatments with PLD and its mechanism.

The aim: The aim of the study is a statistical analysis of the mucosa of the stomach affected by Helicobacter pylori in young people studying at the university. Materials and methods: The work contains the results of the study of chronic gastritis of type B in university volunteer students. The study was attended by students of 1-4 courses, aged 17 to 25 years, a total of 50 people. Among them were 28 men and 22 women. Results: Various forms of chronic gastritis were found in the mucosa of the topographic-anatomical sections of the stomach, 90% of which were associated with Helicobacter pylori (HP). In all departments there is a different amount of common forms of chronic gastritis. In the pyloric section only atrophic gastritis was detected – 31.0 ± 8.5. Atrophic gastritis was also dominant on the lesser curvature – 32.3 ± 7.8, but its forms were significantly (p <0.5) less pronounced than in the pyloric section. In the area of the body, the above variants of chronic gastritis were found in 34.3 ± 8.7 cases, and the majority were flat erosive gastritis 51.0 ± 9.3. There is a tendency to reduce the degree of bacterial contamination of the gastric mucosa from its pyloric section and the lesser curvature to the walls of the body. With a decrease in the degree of bacterial contamination of the gastric mucosa, the degree of leukocyte infiltration also decreases. Between the degree of contamination of the mucous membrane of Helicobacter pylori and the degree of leukocyte infiltration of the mucous membrane, the Pearson correlation coefficient is rxy – 0,935, the correlation is very strong, the coefficient of determination is D=rxy^2 – 0,874, the statistically significant dependence on the probability is 0.99. Conclusions: Atrophic or hyperplastic gastritis associated with HP is found in the gastric mucosa, respectively, 90% of cases. The degree of bacterial contamination correlates with the degree of leukocyte infiltration of the gastric mucosa. Atrophic or hyperplastic gastritis Helicobacter pylori-associated is a common disease of people in young and working age.

3D morphable models are widely used to describe the variation of human body shapes. However, these models typically focus on the surface of the human body, since the acquisition of the volumetric interior would require prohibitive medical imaging. In this paper we present a novel approach for creating a volumetric body template and for fitting this template to the surface scan of a person in a just a few seconds. The body model is composed of three surface layers for bones, muscles, and skin, which enclose the volumetric muscle and fat tissue in between them. Our approach includes a data-driven method for estimating the amount of muscle mass and fat mass from a surface scan, which provides more accurate fits to the variety of human body shapes compared to previous approaches. We also show how to efficiently embed fine-scale anatomical details, such as high resolution skeleton and muscle models, into the layered fit of a person. Our model can be used for physical simulation, statistical analysis, and anatomical visualization in computer animation and medical applications, which we demonstrate on several examples.

Introduction. Gastric duplication cyst is a rare clinical observation. More often, these cysts are localized in the fundus or body of the stomach and have a common muscle layers and blood supply. Even more rarely, duplication cysts are not anatomically connected to the stomach and are located in other parts of the abdominal cavity or in the retroperitoneal space. Cystic duplication of the gastrointestinal tract, which are localized in the pancreas, is extremely rare. The aim of the study is to demonstrate the possibility of using laparoscopy for this disease. Materials and methods. The paper describes three rare clinical observations of gastric duplication cyst topographically associated with the pancreas. In the first clinical observation, gastric duplication cyst was combined with mediastinal duplication cysts, an esophageal bronchial fistula, and extralobar pulmonary sequestrations. In the second observation, a duplication cyst had communication with the pancreatic duct system and was clinically manifested by recurrent bleeding. In the third case, a duplication cyst is diagnosed behind the body and tail of the pancreas. Results. In all cases, surgical treatment was carried out by the laparoscopic method, leading to complete recovery. Histological examination in all the described observations confirmed the gastric type of epithelium of the mucous membrane of the cysts. The article provides a review of the literature. Conclusion. Thus, the efficiency of laparoscopic interventions in children with gastric duplications topographically associated with the pancreas was demonstrated. The described rare clinical manifestations, a combination of defects, as well as the possible presence of heterotopy of the mucous membrane of the duplication cyst confirm the need for surgical correction of the disease.
