The aim of the article is to explore organizational innovation capability variables that could have an impact on performance in business to business (B2B) context. This work used systematic analysis of the literature supported through bibliometric analysis indicating the following organizational innovative capabilities: innovation strategy and management projects, collaborative networks and market orientation. The authors propose an explanatory model and provide empirical evidence from B2B sector in Chile, surveying 242 senior executives. The best position was the mining sector. However, all the sectors studied need more emphasis on market orientation, value co-creation and innovation to obtain better and more sustainable results.

Developing new services is vital for a service-based company to succeed in the long run. This requires both innovation capability and understanding customer needs. Previous research has shown that if a firm wishes to develop an innovation superior to the competition, it must have both a strong technology orientation and a strong market orientation. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of market orientation and technology orientation on service innovation capability in SMEs operating in the field of social and health care. In addition, this study examined the obstacles to using digitalization and new technologies in service innovations. Mixed methods design was applied so both quantitative and qualitative data was used. The results from the quantitative part of this study show that both technology orientation and market orientation have a positive and statistically significant effect on service innovation capability in SMEs operating in the field of social and health care. Furthermore, market orientation is the most important variable in the model. The results from the qualitative element again show that some of the hindering factors of using digitalization and new technologies arise from practices and attitudes of social and health care actors but others arise from the digitalization and new technologies themselves.

In China, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in economic development and social wealth in terms of GDP growth, employment creation and poverty alleviation. In the age of technology and information, innovation has been regarded as one of the most significant drivers for the growth and prosperity of SMEs. Therefore, it is necessary for SMEs to implement innovation strategy, which would help them to initiate new products, adopt new processes and increase their competitiveness. From this point of view, this study attempts to identify the innovation situation of Chinese SMEs with regard to innovation type as well as innovation strategy. The research data is collected through structured questionnaires and semi-structured interviews from SMEs of manufacturing industry in Shanghai, China. According to the data results, process innovation and marketing innovation are adopted more frequently than product innovation and organizational innovation by Chinese SMEs. This study also demonstrates most SMEs in China implement free-riding strategy; some of them adopt niche strategy; and few SMEs practice cluster strategy. Although innovation is increasingly important for Chinese SMEs, their implementation of innovation strategy is not highly effective and successful.

Global innovation strategy makes a global (or international) organization more competitive and contributes to long term growth. A focus on newer trends and approaches in the technology and internal and external organizational processes would help the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and endeavor. The proper organizational entrepreneurial goals, strategy and culture would generate greater connectedness with the relevant task environments for the global organization to explore and subsequently pursue newer product and services. Altogether, the integrated global sharing, joint experimentation among its subsidiaries and their combined innovation effort, the well-interfaced global supply chain’s innovative endeavors, and the well-planned and systematic innovation strategy, together would spur greater global competitiveness and growth. It is a combined global approach that would effectively generate innovation.

Many hospitals still have not fully received the expected benefits from their investments in Business-to-Business (B2B) electronic commerce (e-commerce). Senior executives in these hospitals are often under increasing pressure to find a way to evaluate the contribution of their B2B e-commerce investments to business performance and to ensure that the expected benefits from these investments are eventually delivered. This is as true in hospitals as it is in the other industries. However, relatively little research has examined how Taiwanese hospitals evaluate their B2B e-commerce investments and to what extent their B2B e-commerce benefits are realized. Hence, the authors take a multi-case study approach to investigate the practices and processes of B2B e-commerce evaluation and benefits realization and their impact on B2B e-commerce benefits and user satisfaction in Taiwanese hospitals. Issues arising from the study include a lack of B2B benefits realization methodology or process and a lack of understanding of B2B benefits realization practices. The results also reveal that a B2B investment evaluation methodology or process was used in most hospitals interviewed. However, there appears to be a lack of proper B2B investment post-implementation review measures in most participating hospitals. Moreover, the findings also show that the level of B2B investment evaluation methodology or process adoption was directly related to the levels of organizational IT maturity and user satisfaction. Furthermore, the authors found that most Taiwanese hospitals in general had not allocated sufficient resources and funding to undertake proper evaluation of their B2B investments.

The use of Business-to-Business (B2B) e-commerce within the Australian pharmaceutical supply chain can potentially assist in setting up an infrastructure which supports complex, multiparty Internet-based trading and transactions among pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers, hospitals, pharmacies, medical supply importers and exporters, and other players in the healthcare system. Effective use of B2B e-commerce can help these organizations reduce costs in supplying and distributing medicines and other medical-related products to the general public. However, despite high expectations for realizing the benefits of B2B e-commerce in the pharmaceutical supply chain, issues surrounding its evaluation and management remain poorly understood and relatively under-researched. This chapter presents case study findings on key management and evaluation issues and challenges in adopting and utilizing B2B e-commerce systems on eight pharmaceutical organizations in Australia. The key objectives of this study are: (1) to establish current practices and norms in evaluating B2B e-commerce investments and projects in the pharmaceutical industry; and (2) to identify key B2B e-commerce management issues and challenges within the Australian pharmaceutical supply chain. A key contribution of this chapter is the identification and examination of key issues and challenges faced by the pharmaceutical organizations undertaking B2B e-commerce activities within their supply chain. The findings will guide senior executives in these organizations to develop their own approaches or strategies to manage the opportunities and threats that exist in the Australian pharmaceutical supply chain.

This study examines the positive and indirect effect of human resource management, organizational culture, knowledge management capabilities on organizational performance, with the mediating effect of organizational innovation capability among small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) in biomass industry in Malaysia. In addition, this study integrates resource-based view (RBV) and dynamic capabilities theories to investigate how the organization utilize its resources and capabilities to enhance organizational performance. Data were collected using survey questionnaire from biomass SMEs located in Malaysia. Structural equation modelling (Smart PLS 3.0) was used to test and analyze the data. The findings reveal that knowledge management capability and organizational culture exert a positive influence on organizational innovation capabilities. Similarly, organizational innovation capabilities also found to positively affect organizational performance.

Sustainability of small, medium, and micro enterprises has been an issue due to the lack of strategic capability of many entrepreneurs. This chapter examines the strategic capabilities that are necessary for the sustainability of small, medium, and micro-enterprises. A literature review approach was adopted by the authors to examine the relationship between the measures of strategic capability of small, medium, and micro-enterprises, and the sustainability measures of the small, medium, and micro-enterprises. The result shows that there is a positive relationship between strategic capability and sustainability of small, medium, and micro-enterprises. The measures of strategic capability include sensing, seizing, transforming, and innovative capabilities. The sustainability measures of the small, medium and micro enterprises are strategic objectives, customer satisfaction, and retention, organisational value, networking, availability of resources, innovation capability, profitability, and organisational competitiveness.
