In order to investigate the soil fertility status of Swabi district the present research was carried out. A total of 32 soil samples were collected from 16 different locations surrounding Swabi area at 0-20cm and 20-40cm depths and analyzed for different chemical properties and fertility status in the laboratory of soil and environmental Sciences University of Agriculture Peshawar. Results revealed that soil of Swabi was moderately to strongly calcareous in nature and alkaline in reaction. The O.M content was found deficient to marginal, being deficient in 75% and marginal in 25% samples at both soil depths. AB-DTPA Extractable phosphorous was found sufficient (40%) at surface soil while at sub surface it was found 15% deficient. No potassium deficiency was observed at surface as well as at sub surface soil, being sufficient in 37 % samples at surface soil and 43 % samples at sub surface soil. AB-DTPA extractable Cu was found adequate in almost all soil samples, Fe was found sufficient in 78% soil samples and medium in 9% samples and was found low in 12% soil samples at both soil depths. AB-DTPA Extractable Zn was found 12% deficient, 6% medium and 31% adequate at all surface soil samples while at sub surface it was found 19% deficient, 22% medium and 12% adequate. Proper fertilization and application of FYM and green manure is highly recommended for the areas low in Organic matter and respective nutrients.

Organic materials in situ remaining paddy crops in paddy fields are much abandoned by farmers. Most of the remaining harvested are burned, stacked in the cultivated, or used for animal feed or as a fungus. Straw compost is source of Potassium (K) and Silica (Si). About 80% of K absorbed by plants is in the straw. The return of straw to the soil may slow the impoverishment of Potassium (K) in the soil. This study aims to find out how the availability of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) nutrients by giving organic matter as soil fertility status in paddy fields in Beringin Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency and to review management alternatives that are in accordance with the soil fertility status in the Central Land Rice fields in Beringin Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency. This research was carried out in the Central Rice Field in Beringin Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency ± 11 meters above sea level. The taking of soil samples was taken in the upper layer at the top soil depth of 0-20 cm, 20-40 cm and the coordinates were recorded using GPS (Global Positioning System). While information on land management is obtained by direct observation in the field and in-depth interviews with farmers in snow ball which aims to obtain complete information from farmers. Soil samples that have been taken in the field are then analyzed in the laboratory. Soil chemical properties analyzed in laboratory soil chemical properties analyzed at P2O5 Bray II (ppm) laboratory K2O Hcl 25% (mg / 100g). To determine the chemical properties of soil with certain criteria that have been determined. Based on Technical Guidelines for Evaluation of Soil Fertility The direction of management of soil fertility needs to be added to organic matter and phosphorus fertilization regularly so that soil fertility can be sustainable. Further research is needed in order to find out the addition of phosphorus fertilizer and organic matter in each unit of land.

The effects of bivalent cations such as Mg2+, MN2+, FE2+ and Cu2+ on zinc adsorption in 16 surface soil samples (0-25 cm depth), representing major soil series of Tamil Nadu (India), and of the soil orders Vertisol and lnceptisol were studied. The study revealed that the interference of the four bivalent cations on zinc adsorption was in the order Cu2+ > Mn2+ > Me2 + > Mg2+. The effects of these ions on zinc adsorption could be explained on the basis of chemical properties such as magnetic moment value, kinetic classification, crystal field stabilization energy (CFSE) and kinetics of substitution. The variations in soil properties, particularly soil texture, also influenced zinc adsorption in these soils.

The lack of information concerning the variability of soil properties has been a major concern of researchers in the Amazon region. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the spatial variability of soil chemical properties and determine minimal sampling density to characterize the variability of these properties in five environments located in the south of the State of Amazonas, Brazil. The five environments were archaeological dark earth (ADE), forest, pasture land, agroforestry operation, and sugarcane crop. Regular 70 × 70 m mesh grids were set up in these areas, with 64 sample points spaced at 10 m distance. Soil samples were collected at the 0.0-0.1 m depth. The chemical properties of pH in water, OM, P, K, Ca, Mg, H+Al, SB, CEC, and V were determined at these points. Data were analyzed by descriptive and geostatistical analyses. A large part of the data analyzed showed spatial dependence. Chemical properties were best fitted to the spherical model in almost all the environments evaluated, except for the sugarcane field with a better fit to the exponential model. ADE and sugarcane areas had greater heterogeneity of soil chemical properties, showing a greater range and higher sampling density; however, forest and agroforestry areas had less variability of chemical properties.

A research conducted in Sungai Rumbai, Dharmasraya Regency and in Soil Laboratory Andalas university was aimed to evaluate soil fertility status on the depth below 0-20 cm from several land use types , especially under Mixed Garden and annual cultivated dryland soil.  Soil samples were taken on Ultisol at 0-8% slope (late-waving soil surface).  Land use types evaluated were forest, annual cultivated dryland, bush land, rangeland covered by Imperata cylindrica and mixed garden.  Composite soil samples for soil chemical analysis were taken on the 0-20 cm soil depth with four replications, and 5 drillings for each replication.  Undisturbed soil samples by using sample ring were used to analyze sol bulk volume.  The data resulted were compared to the criteria and were statistically tested using Analysis of Variance and then were continued by LSD at 5% level.  From the results of analyses could be concluded that land use  for mixed garden had the higher Organic Carbon (OC) content and the lower bulk volume (BV) than those for annual cultivated dryland soil.Key Words: Degradasi Lahan, Kebun Campuran, Tegalan

An investigation was under taken to study the soil fertility status of major nutrients, micronutrients and mapping in Ramasamudram-1 microwatershed of Yadgir taluk and district of Karnataka, India during the year 2019. Total seventy-four grid wise surface soil samples were collected at 320 m grid interval at 0-15 cm depth to assess the soil parameters (texture, pH, EC, OC, available P, K, S, Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn and B) and prepare the soil fertility maps through GIS using Kriging method. The results of the study indicated that, the texture of the soil varied from loamy sand to sand clay loam in surface. Soil reaction varied from acidic to neutral with non-saline in nature. The distribution of soil organic carbon (32%), available phosphorous (56%) and potassium (47%) status was found to be medium in most of the area of microwatershed. The available sulphur status was found to be low (57%) in maximum area of the microwatershed. The available zinc status was found to be sufficient (46%) in majority area of the microwatershed. The available copper, iron and manganese status of the soils were sufficient (58%) in entire area. Whereas available boron status was found to be low (57%) in maximum area of the microwatershed. Therefore, the study showed that, the soils of the microwatershed were medium in fertility status. There is need of proper fertilizer recommendation and soil management practices can be made productive thereby, increasing the crop yield.

ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine the effect of the location distance from the river bank and the depth ofsoil layer to the soil chemical properties in the tidal land area. The study was conducted in April untilJune 2016 in the tidal areas of Bajarum village, District of Kota Besi, East Kotawaringin, CentralBorneo Province. The study used survey methods and soil sampling in the field, analysis of soilsamples in the laboratory and continued with analysis and description of data. Soil sampling wasconducted at distances of 250, 500, 750, 1.000, 1.250 and 1.500 meters from the Mentaya river bankat two depth soil layers (0 - 25 cm and 25 - 50 cm). The soil chemistry properties analyzed includedpH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), base saturation, organic C, N total, total P2O5, total K2O,alumunium and hydrogen exchangeable and soil fertility status. The results of study showed that: (1)The further distance of soil from the position of Mentaya river bank there is an increase of organic C,total P2O5, total N, total K2O, pH, CEC, base saturation and soil fertility status, on the contraryshowed a decrease in alumunium and hydrogen exchangeable. The limiting factor of soil fertility ismainly the low base saturation, besides that at some point observation also due to low CEC, totalP2O5 and total K2O. (2) Sub soil layer (25 - 50) cm has a higher pH and base saturation valuescompared to topsoil layer (0 - 25) cm. In contrast, topsoil layer has CEC, alumunium and hydrogenexchangeable, total P2O5, total K2O, total N and organic C values higher than sub soil layer.Keywords: distance from river, tidal soil, soil chemical properties.

This study was conducted to assess desertification for dry lands in some parts of Iraq. The study area located between longitudes 43025- 41" - 460 28- 01" E and latitudes 340 18- 35" - 360 20- 56" N with an area of 26500Km2which include some parts of the governorates of Sulaimani, Diyala, Kirkuk, and Erbil in Iraq.  Eighty nine surface soil samples were taken, air dried, sieved through a 2 mm sieve and then analyzed for some physical and chemical properties.   Desertification is assessed according to Mediterranean Desertification and Land Use model (MEDALUS). ArcGIS 10.2 was used to analyze and prepare the layers of soil quality maps. In turn the geometric mean of all six quality maps was used to generate a single desertification status map .In calculating the weight of the soil quality indicator SQI it seems that it was divided into two classes, firstly, class 2(moderate quality) with an area of 25147 km2, which occupied 95% of the study area and the rest is class3 (low quality) with an area of ​​1309 km 2 which equal to 5% of the total area.

Rainfed rice fields are paddy fields whose water sources depend on rainfall without permanent irrigation structures. This study aimed to identify fertility variables that are obstacles in Beringin Subdistrict by evaluating soil fertility status and reviewing management alternatives that are in accordance with the soil fertility status found in rainfed lowland rice fields in several villages in Beringin Subdistrict, Deli Serdang District.This research was a phenomenological qualitative descriptive study with land survey and supported by qualitative laboratory analysis. The taking of soil samples was carried out in the survey area sequentially based on the location of the estimated nature of the soil with the purposive random sampling method. The taking of soil samples was taken in the upper layer at the top soil depth of 0-20 cm, and the coordinates of the point were recorded using GPS.The fertility status of paddy fields in BeringinSubdistrict was classified as high, medium, and low soil fertility status. High soil fertility in P-total soil parameters in all villages, for medium land in K2O parameters in all villages, while for low land status in N-total land parameters in all villages. Prompts for giving urea fertilizer without organic matter as much as 250 kg ha-1, with 5 tons of straw ha-1 adding urea fertilizer as much as 230 kg ha-1 and using 2 tons of manure ha-1 giving urea fertilizer as much as 225 kg ha-1.P fertilization in medium status paddy fields is 75 kg SP-36 ha-1, and high P fertility status is 50 kg ha-1SP-36. K fertilizer application for high soil fertility status is 50 kg ha-1. Prompts for organic fertilizer using compost of rice straw equal to 5 tons ha-1 and or manure 2 tons ha-1. Keywords: Status of N,P,K, Rainfed Rice Field, Beringin District

A laboratory experiment was conducted to study soil fertility status of some selected soils of Birbhum district of West Bengal with one hundred soil samples collected from five blocks viz., Mayureswar, Nalhati-1, Bolpur, Md Bazar and Rajnagar. The soils of this zone are characterized by sandy loam to sandy clay loam in texture and strong to moderately acidic in reaction. Total soluble salt content (EC as dSm-1) was found to be under very low level (<1.0) indicating the safe limit for soils, where low to medium organic carbon contents, low to medium in available N, P and K content, while available Sulphur content of all the soil samples was low.

Soil test-based fertility management is important for sustainable soil management. This study was carried out to determine the soil fertility status of the Agriculture Research Station, Belachapi, Dhanusha, Nepal. Using soil sampling auger 25 soil samples were collected randomly from a depth of 0-20 cm. Soil sampling points were identified using GPS device. Following standard methods adopted by Soil Science Division laboratory, Khumaltar, the collected soil samples were analyzed to find out their texture, pH, N, P2O5, K2O, Ca, Mg, S, B, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn and organic matter status. The soil fertility status maps were made using Arc-GIS 10.1 software. The observed data revealed that soil was grayish brown in colour and sub-angular blocky in structure. The sand, silt and clay content were 36.03±3.66%, 50.32±2.52% and 25.42±2.25%, respectively and categorized as eight different classes of texture. The soil was acidic in pH (5.61±0.14). The available sulphur (0.73±0.09 ppm) status was very low, whereas organic matter (1.34±0.07%), available boron (0.56±0.10 ppm), available zinc (0.54±0.22 ppm) and available copper (0.30±0.01 ppm) were low in status. The extractable potassium (95.52±13.37 ppm) and extractable calcium (1264.8±92.80ppm) exhibited medium in status. In addition, available phosphorus (33.25±6.97 ppm), available magnesium (223.20±23.65 ppm) and available manganese (20.50±2.43 ppm) were high in status. Furthermore, available iron (55.80±8.89 ppm) status was very high. To improve the potentiality of crops (maize, rice, wheat etc.) for studied area, future research strategy should be made based on its soil fertility status.
