One of the significant and distinguishing curriculum characteristics of STEM compared to other subjects domains is hands-on skill development. Hands-on training enables the enhancement of learning because it parallels with the concrete-to-abstract nature of cognitive development, providing additional sources of brain activation via kinaesthetic involvement and elevating students’ motivation and engagement. To bridge the gap between theory and practice, and advance unprepared students’ hands-on skills, this research proposed and implemented an innovative STEM course with the computer-assisted remedial learning system (CARLS) in the vocational high school experience in Taiwan. The effects of STEM course were examined through an experiment with learning performances hypotheses. A total of 32 students in a vocational high school in Taiwan voluntarily participated in this research and a one-group pre-test and post-test pre-experimental design was adopted. The results of this experimental course demonstrated that CARLS is effective and contributed in enhancing students’ knowledge, achievement and hands-on skill performance in this STEM course. Suggestions and implications for STEM education is also made for practitioners and educators. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengembangkan media pembelajaran interaktif yang dirancang berdasarkan karakteristik pembelajaran dengan bantuan komputer atau CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar bahasa Inggris di SMK. Media pembelajaran ini dikembangkan untuk membantu siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan yang belum mencapai standar kompetensi yang ditetapkan pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian dan pengembangan. Model pengmbangan yang digunakan untuk mengembangkan media CAI ini adalah model Hannafin and Peck. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan angket, wawancara, dokumen hasil pembelajaran dan tes. Hasil uji validasi pakar materi, media, desain instruktional, uji satu-satu, uji kelompok kecil serta hasil uji lapangan dengan menggunakan perhitungan t-test menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap hasil belajar siswa sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan media CAI. Dengan kata lain media CAI untuk pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dinilai efektif dan dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa.The purpose of the study is to develop an interactive learning media that are designed based on the characteristics of learning with the help of computer or CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) to improve English learning outcomes in vocational high school. This learning media was developed to help Vocational High School students who have not yet reached the competency standards set in English subjects. The research method used is a research and development method. The development model used to develop CAI media is the model from Hannafin and Peck . Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, learning outcomes documents and tests. Validation test results for material, media and design experts instructional, one-on-one test, small group test and the results of field tests using t-test calculations showed that there were significant differences in student learning outcomes before and after using CAI media. In other words, CAI media for learning English was considered effective and can help improving students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract Implementation of demonstration method in the teaching of chemistry is assigned as the right strategy to improve students’ achievement as it is proved that the method can bring an abstract concept to reality in the class. The study is conducted to vocational high school students in SMKN1 Pargetteng getteng Sengkut Pakfak Barat at accademic year 2013. The teaching has been carried out three cycles on the teaching of chemistry topic of colloid system. In the study, the class is divided into two class, experiment class and control class. The demontration method is used to teach students in experimental class while the teaching in control class is conducted with lecture method. Both are evaluated by using multiple choise tests before and after the teaching procedures, and the ability of students to answer the problems are assigned as students’ achievements. The results showed that demonstration method improved students’ achievement in chemistry. The students in experimental class who are taughed with demonstration method (M=19.08±0.74) have higher achievements compare with control class (M=12.91±2.52), and both are significantly different (tcalculation 22.85 > ttable 1.66). The effectivity of demostration method in experimental class (97%) is found higer compare to conventional method in control class (91%).
