Dermatophytosis disease was found most common disease worldwide which showed a wide prevalence in tropical country as India and it is a wide importance to know their disease etiology and their clinical presentation. Study objective approaches to determine the clinical variation in Dermatophytosis and the species of fungus isolates which responsible for the infection in this area. In our study 1520 specimens were taken from infected skin, hair and nail screened by 10%-20% KOH mount examination and used Sabouraud’s Dextrose Agar (SDA) medium and Sabouraud’s Dextrose Chloramphenicol and Cycloheximide (SCCA) & Dermatophyte Test Medium (DTM) for culture and incubated at 27°C. Further identification done by slide culture method and lactophenol cotton blue mount. Out of 1520 samples taken, 981(64.54%) were found KOH mount positive for fungal elements and 1076 (70.79%) were found culture positive. (21.64%) was found predominantly among other isolated species. Study was found Tinea corporis (50.39%) as common clinically. The study was highlighted with Tinea corporis being the commonest infection type with variable fungal agents and out of other fungal isolates was found a most common isolate in various clinical conditions.

Sickle cell anemia is a hereditary, monogenic blood disease characterized by chronic hemolytic anemia and vasoconstricting phenomena leading to acute painful crises and chronic and progressive tissue damage. It is the most common disease among hemoglobinopathies in Brazil and worldwide. The disease originated in Africa and was brought to the Americas by the forced immigration of slaves. Sickle cell patients have clinical conditions that can be intensified during dental treatment by precipitating vasoconstrictive seizures. In this clinical case, paleness was detected in the buccal buccal and the tongue despapilada. In the intra-oral radiographic examinations, areas suggestive of bone sclerosis and radiolucent areas between the root apices were found. Maxillary protrusion due to medullary expansion was found in lateral cephaladiography. In scintigraphy and magnetic resonance imaging, areas corresponding to bone infarcts and osteonecrosis were found. The dental surgeon performs an important function, being able to diagnose the oral manifestations through clinical and/or radiographic examination. By acting preventively, we can reduce the complications and improve the quality of lives of these patients.

Abstract Background Asbestos-related diseases are a public health challenge in Italy: the country has been a major producer and user of asbestos since World War II until complete ban in 1992. Several contaminated sites and structures across the country have never been decontaminated: incidence peak of asbestos-related diseases is expected somewhen between 2015 and 2020. Study objective is to investigate incidence of asbestos-related diseases in Italy in the last 5 years, from both a chronological and geographical perspective. Methods Ascertained diagnoses of asbestos-related diseases among workers were collected from the INAIL public registry from 2014 to 2018. Yearly incidence rate was estimated per province (incident cases per million workers) and mapped by year. Global incidence quota by working sector and sub-sector was also calculated. Results 8.620 cases have been reported. Incidence rate rapidly increased from 2014, peaking at 7,2 new cases per 100.000 workers in 2015. Afterwards, the number of ascertained cases decreased. There is a clear gradient distribution between northern and southern Italian provinces, with the highest rates in Northern Italy (especially in year 2014) and declining over time. Mesothelioma (all variants) was the most common disease, (2.995 cases, 35% of total), followed by pleural plaques (2.955 cases, 34%), pneumoconiosis (1.327 cases, 15%) and cancer of lungs/respiratory tract (1.298 cases, 14%). Most affected category was that of metal workers, but construction, transportation and electricity workers were also affected. Conclusions Detailed surveillance with mapping support is an effective tool for public health servants to locally manage prevention programs targeted on occupational risk. This is especially true for areas with active industries in the most affected sectors. Key messages Asbestos does not mean mesothelioma, but also other diseases that impact on workforce health status. Pneumoconiosis and other oral and respiratory cancers are also associated with asbestos exposure. Risk management should be tailored for a wider array of worker types than usually considered, since such exposure happens in sectors that are not traditionally related to asbestos exposure.

Abstract Background Anterior communicating artery (AComA) aneurysms are the most common intracranial aneurysm, accounting for 25 to 38% of all cases. In spite of the advent of modern neurointerventional treatments, they still represent a strong indication for clipping in certain anatomical and clinical conditions. However, AComA aneurysms are the deepest located aneurysms of the anastomotic circle of Willis, with a complex spatial orientation, and they are fed by bilateral branches of the anterior circulations. Although, on one hand, these aneurysms represent the most complex ones of the anterior circulation, on the other hand, the experience of young neurosurgeons is increasingly limited. Therefore, respecting operative guidelines is crucial to achieve the best aneurysm exclusion and avoid fatal intraoperative complications. Study Objective We describe the technical algorithm we use to teach young neurosurgeons how to approach AComA aneurysms and help them to develop a procedural memory needed to perform an efficient and safe surgery. Materials and Methods We reviewed our last 10 years of institutional experience of > 200 cases of clipping ruptured and unruptured AComA aneurysms, analyzing our technical refinements and the difficulties in teaching residents and young neurosurgeons how to establish fundamental key points and design a didactic algorithm that includes operative instructions and safety rules. Results We identified seven pragmatic technical key points regarding craniotomy, cisternostomy, gyrus rectus corticectomy, proximal control, perforators and Heubner preservation, aneurysm neck dissection, and clipping to use in a didactic algorithm for teaching residents and as operative instructions for inexperienced neurosurgeons. Conclusion In the setting of clipping AComA aneurysms, respect for surgical rules is of paramount importance to perform an efficacious and safe procedure and ensure the best aneurysm exclusion and preservation of neurovascular structures.

Objective. Current generation smartphones' video camera technologies enable photoplethysmographic (PPG) acquisition and heart rate (HR) measurement. The study objective was to develop an Android application and compare HRs derived from a Motorola Droid to electrocardiograph (ECG) and Nonin 9560BT pulse oximeter readings during various movement-free tasks.Materials and Methods. HRs were collected simultaneously from 14 subjects, ages 20 to 58, healthy or with clinical conditions, using the 3 devices during 5-minute periods while at rest, reading aloud under observation, and playing a video game. Correlation between the 3 devices was determined, and Bland-Altman plots for all possible pairs of devices across all conditions assessed agreement.Results. Across conditions, all device pairs showed high correlations. Bland-Altman plots further revealed the Droid as a valid measure for HR acquisition. Across all conditions, the Droid compared to ECG, 95% of the data points (differences between devices) fell within the limits of agreement.Conclusion. The Android application provides valid HRs at varying levels of movement free mental/perceptual motor exertion. Lack of electrode patches or wireless sensor telemetric straps make it advantageous for use in mobile-cell-phone-delivered health promotion and wellness programs. Further validation is needed to determine its applicability while engaging in physical movement-related activities.

Neural protheses have potential to restore nervous system functions lost by trauma or disease. Nanofabrication extends this approach to implants for stimulating and recording from single or small groups of neurons in the spinal cord and brain; however, tissue compatibility is a major limitation to their practical application. We are using a cell culture method for quantitatively measuring cell attachment to surfaces designed for nanofabricated neural prostheses.Silicon wafer test surfaces composed of 50-μm bars separated by aliphatic regions were fabricated using methods similar to a procedure described by Kleinfeld et al. Test surfaces contained either a single or double positive charge/residue. Cyanine dyes (diIC18(3)) stained the background and cell membranes (Fig 1); however, identification of individual cells at higher densities was difficult (Fig 2). Nuclear staining with acriflavine allowed discrimination of individual cells and permitted automated counting of nuclei using 3-D data sets from the confocal microscope (Fig 3). For cell attachment assays, LRM5 5 astroglial cells and astrocytes in primary cell culture were plated at increasing cell densities on test substrates, incubated for 24 hr, fixed, stained, mounted on coverslips, and imaged with a 10x objective.

Gastritis from returning bile is a common disease, but the reason for the disease is not clear. As the pathologic ultrastructure research progresses, it has drawn attention to the ultrastructural change of cells in gastric mucosa by clinical workers. We observed gastric mucosa tissues of 15 patients suffering from gastritis with a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). It is the first report in China that fungus exists in the lamina propria of gastric mucosa tissue. The result is as follows.The gastric mucosa tissues of 15 patients suffering from gastritis were acquired by stomachoscopy. Both TEM and SEM specimens were prepared by the usual methods. Under the TEM, the epithelial surface became higher and larger. Mitochondria of the cells were swollen and cristae were disrupted. There were vacuoles in the cells. The nucleus showed disorder, heterochromatin became darker, and nucleolae could be observed.
