Background: Aggressive behavior (AB) represents an important social problem, which results in significant costs for the society. A significant role in developing aggression is suggested to be mediated by molecular mechanisms related to the functioning of oxytocin (OXTR) and arginine vasopressin receptor (AVPR1B) genes involved in the regulation of social behavior. On the other hand, a specificity of environmental factors affecting an individual at various stages of development may modulate the molecular processes, especially at gene expression level, thus affecting human’s ability to self-control and resulting in AB manifestation. The aim of the study: Considering a multifactorial nature of developing aggression, the present study is aimed to estimate both the genetic- and haplotype-based effects of the OXTR and AVPR1B genes and gene-by-environment interactions in developing AB. Materials and methods: The genotyping of the OXTR (rs2228485, rs53576) and AVPR1B (rs33911258) gene variants was conducted via PCR with fluorescent detection in 189 criminal offenders (7% women) from the Republic of Bashkortostan, who committed murders, and the control group (N=254, 12% women) corresponding to the group of criminal offenders by ethnicity and age. Statistical analysis was performed via logistic regression with correction for multiple comparisons (PLINK v.1.09). Results: As a result of statistical analysis the association of rs2228485 A-allele and AG haplotype (rs2228485 and rs53576) in the OXTR gene with an enhanced risk for developing AB was observed. In addition, we demonstrated a modulating effect of such environmental factors as the presence of severe somatic diseases, alcohol addiction, fa milial history of psychopathologies, income and education level. Moreover, the effect of rs33911258 G-allele in the AVPR1B gene on AB was observed. Conclusion: The data obtained evidence that the examined variants in the AVPR1B and OXTR genes in combination with specific environmental factors may affect neuronal systems functioning, thus resulting in the manifestation of antisocial behavior.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a common autoimmune disease, which etiology includes a complex of genetic and environmental factors. Data suggests that their interaction can influence the age of the clinical manifestations and the course of the disease. Therefore, the study of risk factors of MS in regions with different ethnic compositions of the population and climatic and geographical characteristics is of considerable interest. Objective: to study MS risk factors prevalence in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria (RKB).Patients and methods. This case-control study of the representation of risk factors included a cohort of 112 MS patients living in two regions of the RKB (Nalchik and the Prokhladnensky district). The MS diagnosis was established with the McDonald criteria (2017). MS risk factors were assessed with a unified questionnaire. 112 respondents (matched by the main demographic characteristics and place of residence) were included in the control group. Results and discussion. MS patients from the Prokhladnensky district were significantly more likely to contact harmful chemical compounds, had higher consumption of smoked meat products; and suffered from viral infections more often (all differences were significant, p<0.05). More patients with MS, regardless of their place of residence, had a history of scarlet fever than the controls (n=23; 19.5% and n=14; 13.4%, ratio indicator 0.43 (95% CI 0.32–1.01), p=0.041), and the maximum significance of this factor was found in patients who suffered from scarlet fever after the age of 15 years (n=7; 6.3% and n=1; 0.9%, ratio indicator 2.45 (95% CI 1.92–3.21), p=0.041). More patients with MS had a history of chickenpox (n=70; 62.5% and n=55; 41.1%; ratio indicator 0.78 (95% CI 0.65–0.94, p=0.032), the frequency of this factor was most significant in early (up to 7 years) disease onset. Regardless of the place of residence, patients with MS were more likely to suffer from tonsillitis and sinusitis in childhood (p=0.032).Conclusion. In the RKB, as in other regions of the Russian Federation, the risk of MS, along with a genetic predisposition, is primarily determined by environmental factors, such as contact with potentially harmful chemicals, history of somatic diseases, characteristics of the ecological situation, etc. Therefore, MS risk is higher in people exposed to these factors before the age of 7 years and does not depend on the place of residence.

Background and aims. The Republic of Moldova ranks among the European Region countries with the highest global incidence of tuberculosis. Almost 5% of the cases with pulmonary TB had been diagnosed with DM in 2017. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of diabetes mellitus on the anti-tuberculosis treatment effectiveness for the improvement of the disease outcome. Methods. A retrospective, longitudinal and case-control study, which included a total number of 252 patients diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis and distributed into a study group of 93 patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and a control group of 159 patients without glycemic disorders was performed. The statistical analysis was performed using EpiInfo software. The statistical analysis of the differences between normally distributed continuous variables was tested with the Student T-test. Results. Based on the collected data we established that the majority of the patients with glycemic disorders were diagnosed with the type 2 diabetes, associated with hyperglycemia and in half of them complications of diabetes were revealed. The age older 55 years and the low economical state were common characteristics of the diabetic patients. Tuberculosis was detected in every second diabetic patient through the radiological screening compared with the passive detection of most of the non-diabetic patients. The anti-tuberculosis treatment outcome was endangered by a higher rate of the adverse drug events in patients with diabetes, which contributed to death in 15%, lost to follow-up 7%, and therapeutic failure in 6%. Conclusions. The anti-tuberculous treatment outcome in patients diagnosed with tuberculosis and diabetes mellitus was significantly diminished by glycemic disorders, history of the previous anti-tuberculous treatment and adverse drug reactions. Individualized therapeutic approach to tuberculosis could improve the treatment effectiveness.

Subject. Gingival recession is a complex multifactorial disease, the development of which is influenced by the interaction of many genes and environmental factors (orthodontic and mucogingival anomalies, bad habits, muscle hypertonicity). Since, in addition to environmental factors, genes also influence the development of this pathology, the study of the molecular genetic basis of gum recession is an urgent task of modern dentistry. Such studies can make a decisive contribution to the creation of a concept describing the development of gingival recession, will help determine the prospects for its personalization and will allow the development of scientifically based comprehensive programs for the prevention of periodontal pathology. The aim is to study the association of the rs3918242 of the metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) gene in children with the development of gum recession citizensof the Republic of Tatarstan. Methodology. The study sample included 284 patients, of which 200 relatively healthy ones constituted the control group (intact periodontium) and 84 - the observation group (gingival recession). DNA was isolated from buccal epithelial cells. Further genotyping of the rs3918242 polymorphism of the MMP9gene was performed using real-time polymerase chain reaction on a CFX96 amplifier (BioRad, USA) in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions (Sib-DNA, Novosibirsk). Statistical analysis was performed to assess the differences between the study groups. Results. There were no statistically significant differences in the frequency of alleles and genotypes of the rs3918242 polymorphism of the MMP9 gene between the study groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions. The role of the rs3918242 polymorphism of the MMP9 gene in the development of gum recession in children living in the Republic of Tatarstan has not been established using the case-control methodological approach.

Forest fires are one of the most important environmental factors affecting the environment. Due to climate change and the increasing frequency of forest fires, studies of the consequences of forest fires and the processes of restoration of disturbed geosystems are relevant. Over the past 20 years, there has been an increase in the frequency of fires on the territory of the Republic of Buryatia as a whole, and the western macro slope of the Barguzin ridge in particular. The situation is aggravated by the fact that a significant part of the fires occur in hardto- reach areas of the ridge, which complicates their elimination. The paper presents the results of observations (2015-2020 years) on the impact of forest fires on the taiga geosystems of the western macroslope of the Barguzin ridge. The features of post-fire restoration of geosystems are considered. The natural restoration of forests depends on the nature of the forest growing conditions and the ecological characteristics of the stands. Restoration of dark coniferous-taiga geosystems, including relict ones, after intense fires has not been revealed, since forest growing conditions are changing. The relevance of the research is also related to the fact that the western macroslope of the Barguzin Ridge is located within the Baikal Natural Territory (BPT), where protected areas are located and it is not uncommon for fires to disrupt relict geosystems that are under protection.

The aim of this study was to determine the influence of environmental factors affecting body weight variability of lambs in two crossbreed groups: Pirot x W?rttemberg and Sjenica x W?rttemberg. Both populations were managed under the same farm conditions. The data were analyzed to determine the effect of age of the dam, weight of dam, birth type, sex, year and season, on the birth weight and weaning weight of crossbreed lambs. Statistical analysis was performed by GLM procedure using the SPSS statistical package program. The average birth weight of Pirot x W?rttemberg lambs was 3.56 kg while Sjenica x W?rttemberg lambs was slightly higher at 3.69 kg. The difference on birth weight between the two crosses was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The average weaning weight of Pirot x W?rttemberg lambs was 23.54 kg while Sjenica x W?rttemberg lambs had higher weight at 24.37 kg. The difference of 0.83 kg on weaning weight was statistically significant (P <0.05). Body weight, depending on the environmental factors, ranged from 3.17 to 3.96 kg at birth and from 22.12 to 24.18 kg at weaning in Pirot x W?rttemberg lambs. Body weight of Sjenica x W?rttemberg lambs ranged from 3.39 to 3.99 kg at birth and from 22.69 to 25.44 kg at weaning. Statistical analysis showed that the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05) and highly significant (P<0.01).
