Aim. To obtain new data on the species diversity and ecological characteristics of the Tomentella fungi growing in the North‐Eastern Caucasus.Materials and methods. Sampling of research material was performed in October, 2018 during a route survey of forest ecosystems in the vicinity of Delichoban, the Derbent district, and across the territory of the Upper Gunib natural park, the Gunib district, in the Republic of Dagestan. Identification of the collected material was carried out by light microscopy in the Laboratory of Systematics and Geography of Fungi, V.L. Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.Results. 3 Tomentella species, which are new for the Republic of Dagestan, have been identified, including T. bryophila, T. ellisii and T. fibrosa. All the discovered species are given with a brief morphological description, details of localities and comments on the current taxonomic position.Conclusion. The Tomentella Pers. ex Pat. s. l. genus is currently represented by 12 species in the territory of the Republic of Dagestan: Tomentella bryophila, T. cinerascens, T. crinalis, T. ellisii, T. ferruginea, T. fibrosa, T. lateritia, T. pilosa, T. punicea, T. stuposa , T. subtestacea and T. umbrinospora. All these species are found across a wide range of altitudinal gradient. Further mycological studies, including those using the molecular and genetic approach, are needed to reveal species new for the region and to expand the understanding of the spatial, ecological and trophic structure of its mycobiota.

The article reveals the current state of local lore bibliography in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the main types of bibliographic indexes: scientific-auxiliary, recommendation. The author gives the examples of specific bibliographic manuals, which allow to determine the existing system of local lore bibliography, its methodological, organizational and technological development.The article notes the leading centres involved in the creation of local lore bibliographic manuals, considers the principles of creating bibliographic resources through the organization of local lore scientific-auxiliary bibliography.The author presents the analysis of “Bibliography of Yakutia” by N.N. Gribanovsky as one of the samples of bibliographing for all the time of development of local lore bibliography in Russia and gives information about the reconstruction work of this publication. In 2016, the National Library (NL) of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) started preparing for the publication of multi-volume universal scientific-auxiliary bibliographic work “Bibliography of Yakutia (1932—2022)” on all the main branches of knowledge: Yakut language, Literature, Literary Criticism, Folklore, Economy and Demography, State and Law, Political Science, History, Archaeology and Ethnology, Culture and Arts, Health Care, Medicine, Education, Physical Culture and Sports, National Economy and Industry, Agriculture, Minerals and Geology, Cryology. It is expected that the publication will consist of 15 volumes and in general will close the existing gap in bibliographing of documents on all the major branches of knowledge for the years 1932—2022.The author presents detailed characteristics of the main bibliographic indexes published by the NL of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Scientific library of the North-Eastern Federal University named after M.K. Ammosov, the Central scientific library of the Yakut Scientific Centre of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Scientific library of the Yakutsk Agricultural Academy.The article reveals the new opportunities in bibliographic activity of municipal libraries of the Republic, analyses the base for compilation of bibliographic resources of the regions (uluses) of the Republic. The author pays special attention to the activities on creation of recommendation bibliography on “Yakut Studies”. The conclusions present the results of the development of the system of local lore bibliography in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).The author highlights that the characteristic feature of the modern system of bibliographic indexes of the region is the integrity of the major types and kinds of bibliographic indexes; the organizational, technological and scientific components are identified in general; and the bibliographic provision of science and practical activity of the Republic is increasing. The presented system develops quite dynamically in the natural way of changes in the life of society.

The article examines the process of the Tatar language teaching formation in Kazan institutes of higher education in the 1920s on the example of institutes in the Humanities sphere: the North-Eastern Archaeological and Ethnographic Institute, the Eastern Academy and the Tatar National Branch of the Eastern Pedagogical Institute. The research is based on a wide range of unpublished sources from the funds of the State Archive of the Republic of Tatarstan. The study examines the curriculum of the disciplines within which the Tatar language was studied, the teaching forms and methods, as well as the formation of a team of specialists who taught the language during that period. Special attention is given to the study of the socio-political conditions in which the Tatar language instruction developed. It has been established that in the first years of the Soviet regime, the Tatar language was taught in Kazan institutes mainly by orientalists. Therefore, teaching this subject was closely related to oriental studies and source studies disciplines. Students mastered not only the spoken Tatar language, but also learned to work with Old Turkic writing manuscripts. Teaching the Tatar language in the second half of the 1920s was aimed primarily at training teachers of the native language. That period was distinguished by the instability of curricula, the introduction of new teaching methods, including the Dalton plan, and also changes in teaching staff.

The species composition of grass and subshrub layer of basic forest phytocenoses in the north-eastern part of Ukraine is analyzed. Six classes of forest vegetation are identified according to the ecological-floristic classification in the studied region. A revision of plant species characteristics is made for them. It is found that typical plants of grass and subshrub layer are characterized by broad ecological amplitudes with respect to the main environmental factors (temperature, humidity, continentality). On the basis of data on individual ecological optimum of plant, one can expect the growth in the share of hydrophilic and thermophilic species along with the corresponding decrease in xerophilous and boreal plant species in grass and subshrub layer of forest ecosystems in the north-eastern part of Ukraine.

The published documents were found in the archives of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. These are the materials of the meetings of the Soviet and party authorities of the Mountain Republic, which were devoted to the discussion of the problem of Kabarda's secession from the polyethnic mountain autonomy. The Kabardian problem was discussed several times by the leadership of the Mountain Republic in June 1921 before and after the congress of the peoples of Kabarda that took place this month. The minutes of the meetings have not yet been published in the published thematic collections of documents dedicated to the history of the nation-building of the peoples of the North Caucasus. The documents contribute to the understanding of the position of the statesmen of the Mountain Republic on the formation of new autonomous units and the identification of the concrete historical content of these processes. The protocols make it possible to reconstruct the process of not only the disintegration of the collective mountain statehood, but also make it possible to clarify important points in the history of its creation. Party and Soviet leaders often returned to the problems of the initial stage of the formation of the Mountain Republic. Further study of the problems of the formation of a system of national autonomies in the North Caucasus in recent times will largely depend, including on the introduction of new documents into scientific circulation and their interpretation by a wide range of researchers. In this regard, the published documents and materials are of great scientific interest.

AbstractThe Order Suberitida is defined as a group of marine sponges without an obvious cortex, a skeleton devoid of microscleres, and with a deletion of a small loop of 15 base pairs in the secondary structure of the 28S rDNA as a molecular synapomorphy. Suberitida comprises three families and 26 genera distributed worldwide, but mostly in temperate and polar waters. Twenty species were reported along the entire Brazilian coast, and although the north-eastern coast of Brazil seems to harbour a rich sponge fauna, our current knowledge is concentrated along the south-eastern Atlantic coast. A survey was implemented along the northern coast of Brazil, and the collection allowed the identification of six species belonging to the Order Suberitida. Two of them are considered new to science: Suberites purpura sp. nov., Hymeniacidon upaonassu sp. nov., and four, Halichondria (Halichondria) marianae Santos, Nascimento & Pinheiro, 2018, Halichondria (H.) melanadocia de Laubenfels, 1936, Suberites aurantiacus (Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864), and Terpios fugax Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864, are re-described. Taxonomic comparisons are made for Tropical Western Atlantic species and type species of the four genera. Finally, an identification key for the Western Atlantic Suberites species is provided.

Professor Iryda Grek-Pabisowa (1932–2021)This article presents the profile of Iryda Grek-Pabisowa, a renowned linguist, associated with the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences for sixty years. She was a long-serving head of North Borderland Polish, and the deputy director of the Institute for two terms (1996–2003). She was a pioneer of research on the language and culture of Old Believers in Poland, and the language of Poles in Belarus and Lithuania. The most important research areas on which she focused were dialectology and lexicography: the study and description of the subdialects of Old Believers living in Poland (e.g. A Dictionary of the Dialect of Old Believers Living in Poland), the Russian language (e.g. The Great Russian-Polish Dictionary) and North Borderland Polish (7 monographs and A Dictionary of the Spoken Polish of the North-Eastern Borderland). She is the author or co-author of about 160 articles, 11 monographs and 7 dictionaries. In 1974–2003 she was associated with the journal Acta Baltico-Slavica, initially as its secretary and then editor-in-chief.  Profesor Iryda Grek-Pabisowa (1932–2021) Opracowanie przedstawia sylwetkę Irydy Grek-Pabisowej, znanej językoznawczyni przez 60 lat związanej z Instytutem Slawistyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk. Przez wiele lat kierowała Pracownią Polszczyzny Północnokresowej. Przez dwie kadencje pełniła funkcję wicedyrektorki ds. naukowych w IS PAN (1996–2003). Była prekursorką badań języka i kultury staroobrzędowców w Polsce oraz języka Polaków na Białorusi i Litwie. Do najważniejszych kierunków badawczych należały dialektologia i leksykografia: badanie i opis gwar staroobrzędowców mieszkających w Polsce (m.in. Słownik gwary starowierców mieszkających w Polsce), język rosyjski (m.in. Wielki słownik rosyjsko-polski) oraz polszczyzna północnokresowa (7 monografii oraz Słownik mówionej polszczyzny północnokresowej). Jest autorką lub współautorką około 160 artykułów, 11 monografii i 7 słowników. W latach 1974–2003 była związana z rocznikiem „Acta Baltico-Slavica”, początkowo jako sekretarz, a następnie jako redaktor naczelna.

This study is primarily concerned with the syntactic organisation of Kalmyk clauses headed by verbs that contain a morphological causative marker. The data reported here have been compiled during the summers between 2006 and 2008 in the Republic of Kalmykia. The fieldwork was organised by St. Petersburg State University and the Institute for Linguistic Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences. This fieldwork has been conducted in several villages in the North-Western part of the Republic of Kalmykia. This region is supposed to be the area where the Dörböt dialect of the Kalmyk language is spoken; however, there is no clear indication that the data discussed below are different from the facts found in standard Kalmyk in any relevant respect. The main objective of the study reported here is two-fold. First, there is a descriptive goal. Available descriptions of Kalmyk causatives are mostly concerned with morphological issues and case assignment in canonical causative constructions, whereas a deeper analysis of syntactic properties of causative constructions, especially of their non-canonical uses, is generally lacking. The present study is intended to partially fill this gap. Second, there is a more theoretical goal. It will be shown that there are essential properties of Kalmyk causatives that can be hardly captured by the usual derivational approaches to causatives. Rather, causative verbs in Kalmyk will be viewed as a device for establishing a more or less direct correspondence between an event’s participants and syntactic slots. Although the scope of this paper is limited to one individual language, its findings can have broader typological relevance. In particular, I believe that taking the speaker’s perspective into account can deepen our understanding of causative constructions in other languages as well.

Barnacles are common epibionts on a wide range of marine organisms, including turtles. Chelonibia testudinaria is a successful epibiotic barnacle species, and mainly turtles are responsible for their wide range dispersal. In the present study, the mitochondrial Cytochrome Oxidase I (COI) gene haplotypes of C. testudinaria from Caretta caretta hosts were evaluated. The samples were collected from three dead C. caretta turtle carapaces in 2014 from the Middle East Technical University, Institute of Marine Sciences coastline. Results were also compared with those samples submitted to databases (NCBI and BOLD-system, 139 in total). By comparison, three clades were recorded like previous studies: the Atlantic-Mediterranean clade (Clade-α), the IndianPacific Ocean clade (Clade-β), and Magdalena Bay (Eastern Pacific- Clade-) clade; all samples collected from Turkish shores clustered in the Atlantic-Mediterranean group (Clade-α). The gene flow between the three clades was deficient and highly significant (0.02, 0.03, and 0.03, respectively). According to network age estimation, present study samples’ clade (Clade-α) diverged from the Clade-β approximately 200 kya (SDs=0.22, SDy=4402.90) and Clade- 130 kya (SDs=0.17, SDy=3494.55). In the present study, eight haplotypes were observed in total, two of which were specific to the region.

The species composition of herb and shrub layer of the major forest ecosystems of the north-eastern Ukraine has been analyzed at the level of vegetation classes, and individual ecological optimum of the main species of herbs and shrubs has been determined in order to predict the dynamics of their populations in the region. Literature data and results of our own studies for the period of 2000–2010 have shown that in accordance with the ecofloristic classification in the region, 6 classes of forest vegetation can be distinguished, such as: Querceto-Fagetea Br.-Bl. (1937), Vaccinio-Piceetea Br.-Bl. (1939), Pulsatillo-Pinetea sylvestris Oberdorfer (1992), Quercetea robori-petreae Br.-Bl. et. Tx. (1963), Salicetea purpureae Moor (1958), Alnetea glutinosae Br. Bl. ex Tx. (1943). The analysis of the general monographs on ecofloristic classification made in the north-eastern Ukraine (Klika, 1955; Matuszkiewicz, 2001; Shelyah-Sosonko, 2002; Grygora, 2005; Solomakha, 2008; Goncharenko, 2009, 2010; Rogova et al., 2005, etc.), provided an opportunity to review the composition of the characteristic species for the six classes of vegetation, registered in the region. Thereby, species, that hardly ever occur in the region or are very rare, have been excluded from the list of characteristic species. Plant species, peculiar to forest communities of the north-eastern Ukraine, have been added. Woody plants and shrubs have been excluded from the analysis. For each species of the three central classes its individual ecological optimum has been estimated considering six factors: 1 – light availability, 2 – temperature, 3 – continentality, 4 – soil moisture, 5 – soil acidity, 6 – soil fertility. The point scale of Ellenberg (Ellenberg, 1952, 1996) with 12 points for soil moisture and 9 points for other environmental regimes has been taken as a basis. Due to the fact that the scale of Ellenberg fails to include all these species, and has a lot of gaps in the assessment of individual regimes, it has been supplemented by the point scale of Landolt (Landolt, 1977), in which the number of species is greater and the assessment of their optimum is more complete. Considering that that in the scale of Landolt all environmental factors are divided into 5 points, transformation of points into 12- or 9-integrated assessment of environmental regimes has been made. The indicated pattern of wide ecological amplitude in characteristic species of higher syntaxonomic units in forest vegetation is useful adaptive trait from the phytocoenogenesis point of view. If there is any change in the general soil-climatic conditions, forest phytocoenoses retain their integrity due to the change in their great number and even the floristic composition in the lower tiers. Grouping of classes Querceto-Fagetea Br.-Bl. (1937), Vaccinio-Piceetea Br.-Bl. (1939) and Pulsatillo-Pinetea Sylvestris Oberdorfer (1992) play the leading role in the formation of forest ecosystems in the north- eastern Ukraine. Plant species, peculiar to these classes and being part of herb and shrub layer, provide wide ecological amplitudes, covering at least 3–5-point scales of the main environmental factors. Global warming may result in significant changes in the composition and structure of plant populations that form herb and shrub layer of forest phytocenoses of vegetation classes, peculiar to the north-eastern Ukraine.
