Implementing a performant knowledge management system in military institutions involves emphasizing the role of the organizational dimension that promotes learning, increasing the quality of employees' work and consolidating managers in these institutions as leaders who encourage learning at all levels. The objectives of knowledge acquisition must be defined in such a way as to improve performance and support the trust of the beneficiary of the public service provided. The development of organizational culture within the institution allows people to adopt new values, attitudes and behaviors. Investing in an efficient knowledge management system involves the development of training and education programs that contribute to improving the skills of employees and knowledge sharing both vertically and horizontally, in order to provide quality public service and create value within the community. Knowledge management can be implemented more efficiently and beneficially in the context of the increasing use of technology in educational activities. Thus, integration of e-learning in knowledge management systems allows the removal of space and time barriers from learning. The question is whether current e-learning systems meet the requirements of knowledge management and provide results comparable to those obtained through traditional learning.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of empowering leadership in intraorganizational knowledge management practices and to reveal how followers' acceptance and use of the hotel management system affect this role.Design/methodology/approachA serial multiple mediation model was evaluated and tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The database was created from the results of a structured questionnaire obtained from 401 employees working in hotels in Turkey.FindingsThe findings of the study reveal that empowering leadership has a significant effect on followers' knowledge creation, sharing and application. It was also found that the acceptance and use of the hotel management system were partially complementary to the impact of empowering leadership on followers' knowledge management practices.Practical implicationsThis paper gives an insight into the empowering leader's role in gathering useful knowledge, which is self-managed within the organization, by encouraging, motivating, providing autonomous and supportive conditions and making it beneficial and easier for their followers to adapt to the organization's technologies.Originality/valueThe efficient management of knowledge in organizations through the use of technology is possible by distributing power to subordinates through expanding the theory of knowledge management, leadership and the acceptance and use of technology. Furthermore, this study contributes to the literature by establishing the theoretical foundation of the relationship between empowering leadership and knowledge management practices based on Dalkir's knowledge management model and by discussing the mediating effect of the core variables of the UTAUT model.

The dimensional tolerancing knowledge management system presented in this paper uses Nested Ripple down Rules (NRDR) targeted towards incrementally capturing expert design knowledge. A demonstrated example of such captured knowledge is that which human designers utilize in order to specify dimensional tolerances on shafts and mating holes in order to meet desired classes of fit as set by relevant engineering standards. In doing so, NRDR interface was designed to receive mathematical functions with their specifications prior and during the KA process. This is necessary to be able to exploit relationships among several classes with respect to certain numerical features of the cases in order to accelerate the convergence of the NRDR knowledge acquisition process by generating artificial cases which are likely to trigger the addition of exception rules. The incorporation of equations constitutes a novel contribution to the field of knowledge acquisition with NRDR. The developed dimensional tolerancing knowledge management system would help mechanical designers become more effective in the time-consuming tolerancing process of their designs in the future.
