Purpose What remains uncertain with corporate universities is the contribution they provide to their organizations, particularly when considered from the perspective of managers. Managers are important stakeholders, as they may participate in carrying out the mission and policies that govern the corporate university and participate in the programs offered. Organizations would benefit from knowing more about the perceptions of managers. The purpose of this paper is to study managers’ perceptions of the accountability of two corporate university programs in China and its relationship with the managers’ overall involvement in corporate university programs and their commitment to the organization. Design/methodology/approach The study was conducted in two state-owned organizations in China, a country in which many organizations have adopted corporate universities. A mixed-method approach was used to carry out the study. Findings The results showed that there was a moderate relationship between the managers’ perceptions of the accountability of corporate university programs, based on two management development programs and managers’ involvement in corporate university programs and their commitment to the organization. The results also showed a low relationship between managers’ involvement in their corporate university programs and commitment to the organization. Originality/value The findings provide implications for managing corporate universities in China and enhancing the accountability of these initiatives. The study serves as a basis for future studies involving corporate universities and on the accountability of and involvement in training.

PurposeCorporate universities are regarded as the knowledge management institution of enterprises, but how to improve knowledge enhancement function has not been investigated. Constructed upon the knowledge-based view, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influencing factors of knowledge enhancement of corporate universities.Design/methodology/approachThis paper takes 34 Chinese corporate universities as samples. The influencing factors and interrelationships are checked through exploratory case study and multi-case analysis. A “stimulate-action” model of influencing factors is built up based on the multi-case analysis. The fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis is used to examine configurational paths for knowledge enhancement.FindingsThe research finding shows that only a single element of knowledge management does not constitute a necessary condition for knowledge enhancement of corporate university and explored the concurrent synergy effect and linkage matching mode of multiple conditions of knowledge management. Most of the knowledge-enhanced corporate universities are of strengthening the knowledge process, which shows that sorting out the knowledge process is the core of the corporate university.Originality/valueUnlike the existing research, the external teachers and combing of external knowledge processes are the key factors; this paper proposed that the internal teachers and sorting out the knowledge process within the enterprise play a central role in the knowledge enhancement of corporate universities. The path of high-knowledge enhancement and without high-knowledge enhancement is asymmetry. This paper refined and extended the application of the knowledge management framework in explaining multiple conjunctural causations and improves the relevant theories of organizational knowledge management in the Chinese context.

Many modern companies of medium or large sizes understand the role of employee education in the development of the company and include internal employee training in the scope of their activities, allocating special personnel for training, evaluating and developing the educational level of personnel. At the same time, the practice of corporate universities is becoming more widespread. In our country, they operate under such companies as PJSC Gazprom, PJSC Sberbank, State Corporation Rosatom, OJSC UMMC, and PJSC Polyus. For national companies, employee training becomes a prerequisite for the development of their competitiveness. Many researchers note that due to the constant growth of competition and the serious demographic decline in the country, companies face a shortage of highly qualified employees. In these circumstances, in-house training is a possible means of addressing the shortage of skilled labor. The article considers the increasingly widespread practice of corporate universities, implemented in the largest companies of PJSC Gazprom, PJSC Sberbank, State Corporation Rosatom, JSC UMMC, PJSC Polyus. The content of the term "corporate training" is considered. It is noted that most of the training programs at PJSC Polyus are conducted by the Corporate University, which combines all training and educational courses for managers, specialists and workers. According to the authors, it is advisable for the company in the field of gold mining to introduce the "10:20:70" model in a slightly modified version.

The article deals with the formation and development of the innovative potential (IP) of an organization based on knowledge management. It is emphasized that of all the qualities that characterize this potential, the most important is the company's ability to self-development, to form its key competencies and dynamic abilities. It is indicated that the named competencies and abilities should be formed within the framework of the knowledge management system (KMS) created in the organization. At the same time, the specified system should be an organic part of an innovative business model formed in the company, which, in turn, should be built into the corporate culture and corporate memory of the company. The role of corporate universities in the creation of an effective KMS is noted. It is emphasized that a successfully functioning knowledge management system is a guarantee of continuous growth of the innovative potential and competitiveness of the organization.
