Background and Purpose: Empathy is an important part of the nurse–patient relationship. The aim was to validate the French version of the Reynolds Empathy Scale (F-RES) for assessing empathy in nurses during standardized clinical simulations (SCS). Methods: A series of steps recommended for the translation and validation of an instrument was carried out. Then the F-RES was used to assess empathy during SCS sessions with 26 nurses. Results: The results showed good internal consistency and inter-rater reliability of the F-RES. The expert panel was satisfied with the content and face validity of the instrument. Convergent validity was confirmed using the French version of the Jefferson Scale of Patient Perceptions of Physician Empathy. Conclusions: The F-RES has good psychometric qualities and potential for future research in French populations.

Background Disability resulting from headache disorders is attributable in part to avoidant coping. Acceptance of pain connotes a willingness to experience pain in the service of life values, such that meaningful activities and goals are pursued despite pain. Acceptance facilitates positive health outcomes but has rarely been investigated in headache. Because headache disorders manifest differently than other forms of chronic pain, the present study sought to develop and validate a measure of acceptance of headache. Methods Forty-five candidate items were developed and, with input from an expert panel, reduced to 24 items. Five items were eliminated following administration to a development sample and exploratory factory analysis. Nineteen items were administered to a validation sample for confirmatory factory analysis and assessment of psychometric properties. Results Factor analysis produced a unidimensional six-item measure, the Headache Acceptance Questionnaire (HAQ). The HAQ evidenced good internal consistency, convergent validity with headache disability and related psychological constructs, and divergent validity with social desirability. The measure also distinguished between headache diagnostic groups. Conclusions Pending further validation in clinical settings, the HAQ may have utility in assessing psychological responses to headache symptoms, identifying targets of treatment for interventions that focus on reducing avoidance, and studying mechanisms of change.

Purpose: The aim is to validate a French version of the Jefferson Scale of Patient Perceptions of Physician Empathy (F-JSPPPE). Methods: Twenty-six intensive care nurses took part in a standardized clinical simulation (SCS). For each nurse, a standardized simulated patient completed the F-JSPPPE and three observers filled the French version of the Reynolds Empathy Scale (F-RES). Results: The expert committee concluded that the F-JSPPPE has a good content validity. The internal consistency was good. A positive correlation was observed between the F-JSPPPE and the F-RES, suggesting good convergent validity. Conclusions: The F-JSPPPE validated with a standardized patient in SCS is the first reliable and valid instrument available in French to measure patient's perception of intensive care unit (ICU) nurse's empathy. Future study is needed to evaluate test–retest reliability.

This study presents a French translation and validation of the Durand Adaptive Psychopathic Traits Questionnaire (DAPTQ), an instrument for assessing adaptive traits known to correlate with the psychopathic personality. Bilingual (French and English) individuals from France and Canada (N = 141, 52% in France, Mage = 29.73, SD = 9.09) completed both versions of the DAPTQ (French and English), alongside measurements of perceived stress, trait anxiety, authentic leadership and creativity. Correlation between the DAPTQ total and subscales across versions showed strong associations (r = .84 to .96). The DAPTQ – French version also demonstrated good internal consistency (α = .87), convergent validity, and concurrent validity. These findings support the cross-cultural equivalence of the DAPTQ and therefore its effectiveness as a valid assessment method of adaptive traits.

Difficulties controlling one’s thoughts have been related to several psychopathological states and are core issues in clinical evaluation and treatment. For this reason, Luciano, Algarabel, Tomás, and Martínez (2005 ) developed the Thought Control Ability Questionnaire (TCAQ). The aim of this study was to propose a reliable, valid French version of this questionnaire. To do so, a two-step methodology was followed. In a first study, the 25 items of the TCAQ were translated into French, and data were collected from a sample of undergraduates. The results revealed that two items were problematic in terms of the questionnaire’s face validity and internal consistency. In a second study, data were collected using the remaining 23 items with a new sample of undergraduates. This time, the results revealed that the 23-item French TCAQ possesses good internal consistency and very high reliability, and fits with a unidimensional model of thought control ability. Convergent validity was found with measures of worry and obsessive symptoms. The usefulness of the TCAQ as a tool for clinicians and researchers in the field of self-regulation is discussed.

While the Career Indecision Profile–Short (CIP-Short) has demonstrated sound reliability and validity as a brief measure of career indecision in students, its psychometric performance in employees remains unclear. To facilitate research and practice on career indecision within the employee population, the present study examined the internal consistency reliability, structural validity, and convergent validity of the CIP-Short in employees. Additionally, the present study examined the measurement invariance of the CIP-Short across students and employees. Based on a sample of students ( n = 330) and a sample of employees ( n = 436), the results revealed that (1) the CIP-Short demonstrated good internal consistency reliability in employees, (2) the CIP-Short validly measured the four-factor structure of career indecision in employees, (3) the CIP-Short was positively associated with career decision ambiguity aversion and negatively associated with career adaptability in employees, and (4) the CIP-Short demonstrated measurement invariance on configural, metric, and scalar levels across students and employees. The theoretical and practical implications of this study are discussed, along with limitations and suggestions for future research.

In research on trust in the organizational context, there is some agreement evolving that trust should be measured with respect to various foci. The Workplace Trust Survey (WTS) by Ferres (2002) provides reliable assessment of coworker, supervisor, and organizational trust. By means of a functionally equivalent translation, we developed a German version of the questionnaire (G-WTS) comprising 21 items. A total of 427 employees were surveyed with the G-WTS and questionnaires concerning several work-related attitudes and behaviors and 92 of these completed the survey twice. The hypothesized three-dimensional conceptualization of organizational trust was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. The G-WTS showed good internal consistency and retest reliability values. Concerning convergent validity, all of the three G-WTS dimensions positively predicted job satisfaction. In terms of discriminant validity, Coworker Trust enhanced group cohesion; Supervisor Trust fostered innovative behavior, while Organizational Trust was associated with affective commitment. Theoretical and practical contributions as well as opportunities for future research with the G-WTS are discussed.

Abstract. We developed a new instrument designed to measure fear of intimacy in romantic relationships. We suggest assessing fear of intimacy through two dimensions: self-revelation and dependence. The Fear of Intimacy Components Questionnaire (FICQ) was validated across three studies in which a 10-item solution systematically emerged. Consistently with a two component perspective, a two-factor solution fitted data the best: fear of losing the self (FLS) and fear of losing the other (FLO). Qualitative analyses verified content validity. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses tested the factor structure. Multigroup analyses supported the structural invariance across gender, age, and relationship status. Both factors showed adequate discriminant validity and internal consistency, and good 3-week period test-retest reliability. Associations between the FICQ and insecure attachment orientations demonstrated convergent validity. The association between the FICQ and relationship satisfaction above and beyond a preexisting measure offered criterion validity. By going beyond traditional self-revelation-focused conception of fear of intimacy, that is, by proposing a bi-dimensional structure to fear of intimacy, we believe that this new measure will contribute to future research on fear of intimacy.

Values in Action is a classification of 24 character strengths grouped under six virtue categories. This classification is claimed to be universal across cultures and religions (Peterson & Seligman, 2004) and its measure that is, Values in Action Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS) has been translated and validated in many languages. The present study aimed at its Urdu translation and validation on Pakistani adults taken from different educational institutes and workplaces. Study comprised two parts. Part I dealt with the translation and cross-language validation while in Part II, Construct validation on a sample of 542 adults and convergent validity on a sample of 210 adult participants were determined. Findings revealed satisfactory alpha coefficients for Urdu version. Significant positive correlations with positive affect and life satisfaction and negative correlations with negative affect were indicators of its convergent validity. Age was negatively associated with five strengths whereas significant gender differences were found on seven strengths. Social desirability effects were nonsignificant. Strength-to-virtue level factor structure exploration resulted in a theoretically meaningful four factor structure. Factors were named as Interpersonal, Cognitive, Vitality, and Transcendence and were comparable to factor structures proposed in studies on VIA-IS from a few other cultures. The study offers a valid Urdu translation for use in future studies with adult Urdu speaking population.

This article aims to develop a short form of the locus of control scale. The study was conducted in two stages: a study of 66 respondents as pilot testing which aims to test content validity, structure validity, and internal consistency. Study 2 was conducted on 328 respondents used to test the validity and reliability of the scale evaluated by the PLS-SEM method (such as internal consistency, convergent validity, and discriminant validity). The analysis concludes that the 8-item locus of control scales tested have adequate validity and reliability. A short form locus of control scale was developed and validated in this study, so it can be used in future research and evaluation for HR management practitioners in employee selection Keywords: locus of control, EFA, CFA, scale construction
