This study describes the antibacterial activities of three different solvent extracts of leaves of Chenopodium album. Methanol, acetone and chloroform extracts of C. album were prepared. The antibacterial activity was assessed using well plate method and were examined for the size of zone of inhibition. Different extracts were investigated against the test organisms namely Lactobacillus, Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli. The maximum activity was observed at 100% concentration of different extracts of leaves. The maximum zone of inhibition for 100% concentration were observed as E. coli (19 mm) and Lactobacillus (19 mm) in diameter respectively. C. album did not show any antibacterial activity against B. subtilis. Antibacterial activity was compared with standard Amoxicillin and it was found to be 23 mm diameter for Lactobacillus and 25 mm for both E. coli and B. subtilis in terms of zone of inhibition.

Plant are benefitted in different aspects by symbiotic bacteria. Environmental conditions, Plantconditions and type of pathogens determine these important services for plants Objective: Theresearch was conducted to assess the plant growth enhancing effects of wheat and cabbagerhizobacteria on the growth of wheat plant Methods: For this purpose, total 49 bacteria were isolatedand characterized from the rhizosphere of wheat and cabbage plants. The isolates were assessed forplant growth promoting properties such as: indole acetic acid production, phosphate solubilization,antibacterial activity and heavy metal resistance. Indole acetic acid was found to be produced by 7isolates and phosphate solubilization was shown by 20 isolates. Antibacterial activity was determinedagainst four clinical isolates like Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella sp., Escherichia coli and Pseudomonasaeruginosa Results: Antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus was shown by 38 isolates, 12isolates showed antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Klebsiella sp., whereas no isolate wasfound to be positive against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Another plant growth enhancing trait (heavymetal resistance) was shown by 28 rhizobacteria. In order to evaluate the capability of isolates toenhance the plant growth, bio-inoculation assay was performed using wheat seeds Conclusions:Rhizobacterial inoculation increased the number of roots, shoots, leaves and roots and shoot length ofwheat plantlets as compared to un-inoculated control.

ABSTRACT Paenibacillus polymyxa strain YC0136 is a plant growth–promoting rhizobacterium with antimicrobial activity, which was isolated from tobacco rhizosphere. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of P. polymyxa YC0136. Several genes with antifungal and antibacterial activity were discovered.

Since fibers are strongly bonded in bamboo, extraction of fibers in their natural form is very difficult. This difficulty has favored viscose processing of bamboo. This study covers routes to produce spinnable natural bamboo fibers through eco-friendly processes, while retaining antibacterial and other innate properties. Natural bamboo fibers treated under mild conditions showed better antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus than the raw red margin bamboo plant (Phyllostachys rubromarginata). Bamboo contains compounds that promote bacterial growth, as well as others that are antibacterial. If bacterial growth promoting soluble compounds are removed, antibacterial activity increases in natural bamboo fibers. Some antibacterial activity may even remain in viscose fiber made from bamboo. This study provides information on antibacterial activity in red margin bamboo, natural bamboo fibers, and commercial bamboo viscose.

Biotic stress caused by pathogenic microorganisms leads to damage in crops. Tomato and carrot are among the most important vegetables cultivated worldwide. These plants are attacked by several pathogens, affecting their growth and productivity. Fourteen plant growth-promoting actinomycetes (PGPA) were screened for their in vitro biocontrol activity against Solanum lycopersicum and Daucus carota microbial phytopathogens. Their antifungal activity was evaluated against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici (FORL) and Rhizoctonia solani (RHS). Antibacterial activity was evaluated against Pseudomonas syringae, Pseudomonas corrugata, Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae, and Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum. Strains that showed good in vitro results were further investigated in vitro (cell-free supernatants activity, scanning electron microscope observations of fungal inhibition). The consortium of the most active PGPA was then utilized as biocontrol agents in planta experiments on S. lycopersicum and D. carota. The Streptomyces albidoflavus H12 and Nocardiopsis aegyptica H14 strains showed the best in vitro biocontrol activities. The diffusible and volatile compounds and cell-free supernatants of these strains showed both antifungal (in vitro inhibition up to 85%, hyphal desegregation and fungicidal properties) and antibacterial activity (in vitro inhibition >25 mm and bactericidal properties). Their consortium was also able to counteract the infection symptoms of microbial phytopathogens during in planta experiments, improving plant status. The results obtained highlight the efficacy of the selected actinomycetes strains as biocontrol agents of S. lycopersicum and D. carota.

A novel method of preparing reduced graphene oxide (RGOX) from graphene oxide (GOX) was developed employing vegetable extract, Chenopodium album, as a reducing and stabilizing agent. Chenopodium album is a green leafy vegetable with a low shelf life, fresh leaves of this vegetable are encouraged to be used due to high water content. The previously modified ‘Hummers method’ has been in practice for the preparation of GOX by using precursor graphite powder. In this study, green synthesis of RGOX was functionally verified by employing FTIR and UV-visible spectroscopy, along with SEM and TEM. Our results demonstrated typical morphology of RGOX stacked in layers that appeared as silky, transparent, and rippled. The antibacterial activity was shown by analyzing minimal inhibitory concentration values, agar diffusion assay, fluorescence techniques. It showed enhanced antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in comparison to GOX. It has also been shown that the synthesized compound exhibited enhanced antibiofilm activity as compared to its parent compound. The efficacy of RGOX and GOX has been demonstrated on a human breast cancer cell line, which suggested RGOX as a potential anticancer agent.
