Objective: to investigate, in the literature, evidence on the influence of different styles of leadership on results with patients, professionals and institutions. Method: integrative review of the literature on the portals Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Pubmed and databases Scopus, CINAHL and Embase, using the following descriptors: "leadership", "nursing", "patient safety", “burnout, professional”, "absenteeism" and "personnel turnover" in original articles. Results: 26 publications were included, of which 14 were related to patient outcomes (patient safety), ten related to professionals (burnout) and four to the institution (rotation). Regarding the patients, the leadership style that contributed the most to the favorable results was the transformational, followed by situational, ethical, clinical and coaching. Regarding the development of burnout, the leadership that contributed the most to the reduction of the level of the syndrome was the authentic one, followed by the transformational one and, as far as the intention to leave the job, the authentic one, followed by the transformational leadership were the ones that contributed the most to diminish this intention. In this item, abusive leadership contributed to the desire of professionals to quit their jobs. Conclusion: transformational and authentic leaderships were the ones that most influenced the positive results with patients, professionals and institutions.

Nursing retention is a critical issue for organization. High nurses’ turnover impact negatively on an organization requirement to meet patient needs and quality care. This integrative review aims to critically review and synthesize published studies to obtain better understanding of the determinants of nurse’s intention to leave or stay in the organization. Thirty-seven studies which met the inclusion criteria from different locations using a variety of instruments and research designs were identified using PRISMA guideline. Many factors including job satisfaction, organizational commitment, quality of work life, work environment, leadership style, bullying at work, family reason, and job security were identified to be associated negatively with nurse’s intention to leave and positively with intention to stay in organization. More qualitative studies are needed to understand in depth, the reasons and factors that underlie and influence turnover, intention to leave or remain in organization.

OBJECTIVE: To identify scientific studies and to deepen the knowledge of peripheral neuropathies induced by chemotherapy antineoplastic, seeking evidence for assistance to cancer patients. METHOD: Integrative review of the literature conducted in the databases Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Medical Literature Analysis (PubMed/MEDLINE), the Cochrane Library and the Spanish Bibliographic Index Health Sciences (IBECS). RESULTS: The sample consisted of 15 studies published between 2005-2014 that met the inclusion criteria. Studies showed aspects related to advanced age, main symptoms of neuropathy and chemotherapy agents as important adverse effect of neuropathy. CONCLUSION: We identified a small number of studies that addressed the topic, as well as low production of evidence related to interventions with positive results. It is considered important to develop new studies proposed for the prevention and/or treatment, enabling adjustment of the patient's cancer chemotherapy and consequently better service.

Por lo tanto, es fundamental la inclusión de esta temática en las matrices curriculares de Enfermería desde el inicio del curso y el uso de métodos y estrategias robustos de enseñanza. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to report the findings of a study which examines the relationship between transformational leadership and intention to leave through the mediating role of employee engagement, employer branding, and psychological attachment. Design/methodology/approach Transformational leadership, employee engagement, employer branding, and psychological attachment were assessed in an empirical study based on a sample of 405 full-time employees working in information technology (IT) organizations in India. The data which were obtained using Google doc and a printed questionnaire was analyzed through structural and measurement model. Findings The results reveal that transformational leadership style directly influences employee intention to leave. Transformational leadership and employer branding is mediated by employee engagement. The leadership relation with psychological attachment is mediated by employer branding. Practical implications The implications of the study are of utmost importance for Indian IT industries facing high voluntary turnover in recent times. Transformational leaders in teams contribute to develop employee engagement, employer branding, and psychological attachment. Imparting transformational leadership training to team leaders can help in generating psychological attachment with the employees which would go a long way. Originality/value This study explores the relationship among transformational leadership style, employee engagement, employer branding, and psychological attachment which has not been explored theoretically and tested empirically in an Indian context.

Background While improving patient safety requires strong nursing leadership, there has been little empirical research that has examined the mechanisms by which leadership influences patient safety outcomes. Aim To test a model examining relationships among transformational leadership, structural empowerment, staff nurse clinical leadership, and nurse-assessed adverse patient outcomes. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted with a randomly selected sample of 378 registered nurses working in direct patient care in acute care hospitals across Ontario, Canada. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypothesized model. Results The model had an acceptable fit, and all paths were significant. Transformational leadership was significantly associated with decreased adverse patient outcomes through structural empowerment and staff nurse clinical leadership. Discussion This study highlights the importance of transformational leadership in creating empowering practice environments that foster high-quality care. The findings indicate that a more complete understanding of what drives desired patient outcomes warrants the need to focus on how to empower nurses and foster clinical leadership practices at the point of care. Conclusion In planning safety strategies, managers must demonstrate transformational leadership behaviors in order to modify the work environment to create better defenses for averting adverse events.

Nursing informatics competency has crucial functions in the development of a hospital and patient safety. On the basis of the theory of self-concept, there has been an inadequate study of the influence of transformational leadership on nursing informatics competency mediated by innovation self-efficacy. A descriptive correlational research design was conducted for 586 Chinese nurses from five public hospitals. The measurements were obtained from a questionnaire on transformational leadership, nursing informatics competency, innovation self-efficacy, and a sociodemographic datasheet. We identified a positive correlation between transformational leadership and nursing informatics competency. Innovation self-efficacy had a mediating effect. Managers need to provide measures to shape their transformational leadership style and promote innovation self-efficacy of nurses, which enhances nursing informatics competency of nurses.

ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate, based on scientific literature, evidence on social participation and personal autonomy of individuals with spinal cord injury. Method: Integrative review of the literature including studies published between January 2006 and September 2016, obtained in the databases PubMed, CINAHL and LILACS. The guiding question was: "What evidence is available in the scientific literature about the social participation and/or personal autonomy of individuals with spinal cord injury?" The data were processed by IRaMuTeQ and analyzed by the Hierarchical Descending Classification, according to the expertise of the researchers. Results: Six selected studies discussed social participation, one discussed personal autonomy and two discussed both. 107 text segments were retained and gave rise to five classes. Conclusion: There is little specificity regarding the characteristics of social participation and personal autonomy of individuals with spinal cord injury. The existence of barriers forces them to adopt strategies to participate autonomously.
